Study Design: Retrospective cohort study.
Objectives: Atypical hangman's fractures are associated with increased risk for neurologic injury due to involvement of the posterior cortex of the axis body. We present the largest single-center cohort of atypical hangman's fractures with the goal of guiding treatment decisions and outcomes based on fracture classification.
Study Design: Retrospective review of a single institution cohort.
Objective: To determine whether area deprivation index (ADI) or social vulnerability index (SVI) is more suitable for evaluating minimum clinically important difference (MCID) achievement following elective lumbar fusion as captured by the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS).
Summary Of Background Data: A total of 182 patients who underwent elective one-level to two-level posterior lumbar fusion between January 2015 and September 2021.
Background: The purpose of this study is to evaluate patient reported outcomes after arthroscopic extensive débridement of the shoulder with subacromial decompression (SAD) for subacromial impingement using the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) system and evaluate if depression (Dep) (clinical or situational) impacts patients achieving a Minimal Clinically Important Difference (MCID).
Methods: Preoperative PROMIS Physical function (PF), Mood, and Dep scores were obtained at the closest date prior to arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and postoperative scores were collected at every clinical visit thereafter. Final PROMIS score used for data analysis was determined by the patients final PROMIS value between 90 to 180 days.
Background: Little is known about the effect of modern hip arthroscopy on the natural history of femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) with respect to joint preservation.

Background: The purpose of this study was to understand the role of social determinants of health assessed by the Area Deprivation Index (ADI) on hospital length of stay and discharge destination following surgical fixation of pelvic ring fractures.
Methods: A retrospective chart analysis was performed for all patients who presented to our level-I trauma center with pelvic ring injuries that were treated with surgical fixation. Social determinants of health were determined via use of the ADI, a comprehensive metric of socioeconomic status, education, income, employment, and housing quality.
Background Context: Socioeconomic status (SES) has been associated with differential healthcare outcomes and may be proxied using the area-deprivation index (ADI). View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Previous studies reported inferior patient-reported outcomes (PROs) after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair for patients receiving workers' compensation (WC) relative to patients with commercial insurance. The extent to which alternative insurance reimbursement, including Medicaid and Medicare, influences outcomes after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair remains understudied.
Hypothesis: Compared with patients with commercial insurance reimbursement, patients with WC or government-issued reimbursement would report lower pre- and postoperative Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) Physical Function (PF) scores, report higher pre- and postoperative PROMIS Depression (D) and Pain Interference (PI) scores, and experience smaller levels of improvement in all PROMIS domains with surgical intervention.

Background: Surgical management of complications following knee arthroplasty demands accurate and timely identification of implant manufacturer and model. Automated image processing using deep machine learning has been previously developed and internally validated; however, external validation is essential prior to scaling clinical implementation for generalizability.
Methods: We trained, validated, and externally tested a deep learning system to classify knee arthroplasty systems as one of the 9 models from 4 manufacturers derived from 4,724 original, retrospectively collected anteroposterior plain knee radiographs across 3 academic referral centers.

A categorical classification system was used for media format (picture or video), perspective, timing, tone, and content.
Background: Ultrasound is a portable technology able to deploy health care effectively in low resource settings. This study presents a systematic review to determine trends in the utility and applicability of this technology in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), specifically for surgical applications. The review includes characterising and evaluating trends in the geographic and specialty-specific use of ultrasound pertaining to surgical disease.

Purpose: To quantify social media use of professional sports team physicians on popular platforms and analyze differences between users and nonusers.
Methods: Team physicians for professional sports teams in the National Football League, National Hockey League, Major League Baseball, and National Basketball Association were identified and characterized based on training background, practice setting, and geographic location. Rates of social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and ResearchGate were determined.
Purpose: The rapid dissemination of information through social media renders a profound lens to evaluate perceptions of emerging topics, especially in the context of a global pandemic. The primary objective of this cross-sectional study was to elucidate trends on social media in the setting of surgical cancer care affected by the COVID-19 pandemic across the globe.
Methods: A public search of Twitter from April 1 to 30, 2020, was conducted, which yielded 996 posts related to COVID-19 and cancer.
