We developed a novel DNA aptamer, D8#24S1, which specifically recognizes mertansine (DM1), the cytotoxic payload of the antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) trastuzumab emtansine (T-DM1), and applied it for T-DM1 analysis. D8#24S1 was obtained through SELEX and was shown to specifically recognize DM1 with high affinity (dissociation constant, K = 84.2 nM).

Background: To evaluate clinical outcomes of focal therapy using high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) with intraoperative prostate compression for patients with localized prostate cancer (PC).

Background: The mortality rate of splenic artery aneurysm rupture is very high, and patients with aneurysms larger than 30 mm are recommended for treatment, regardless of the presence or absence of symptoms. We herein report a case of splenic artery aneurysm with an abnormal bifurcation that was treated with laparoscopic ligation of the splenic artery.

During anuran metamorphosis from herbivorous tadpoles to carnivorous frogs, the gastrointestinal (GI) tract undergoes drastic remodeling, such as the formation of the stomach-intestine boundary and the development of the pyloric sphincter at the posterior end of the stomach. However, the morphogenetic process and molecular mechanisms of how the pyloric sphincter is formed during metamorphosis, instead of during embryogenesis as in amniotes, are largely uninvestigated. Using the African clawed frog Xenopus laevis, we histologically examined the development of the pylorus region from embryonic to froglet stages and performed spatiotemporal gene expression analyses.

We developed an aptamer-based fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) assay capable of recognizing therapeutic monoclonal antibody bevacizumab and rapidly quantifying its concentration with just one mixing step. In this assay, two fluorescent dyes (fluorescein and tetramethylrhodamine) labeled aptamers bind to two Fab regions on bevacizumab, and FRET fluorescence is observed when both dyes come into close proximity. We optimized this assay in three different formats, catering to a wide range of analytical needs.

Background: Imaging modality-based evidence is limited that compares the extent of coronary arterial repair after percutaneous coronary intervention between patients with stable angina pectoris (SAP) and those with acute coronary syndrome (ACS).

A male patient in his 70s with recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after surgery received atezolizumab plus bevacizumab (Atezo+Bev) therapy. Initial computed tomography (CT) revealed tumor growth along with an increase in tumor markers, and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) showed multiple round avascular areas within the nodules with an appearance similar to a slice of Swiss cheese. Continuation of immunotherapy with consideration of the potential for pseudoprogression produced a dramatic response.

Vimentin is a stable mesenchymal immunohistochemical marker and is widely recognized as a major marker of mesenchymal tumors. The purpose of the present study was to investigate if the vimentin expression status might serve as a significant predictor of outcomes in patients with invasive breast carcinoma of no special type (IBC-NST) and to investigate, by comprehensive RNA sequencing analyses, the mechanisms involved in the heightened malignant potential of vimentin-positive IBC-NSTs. We report a case of successful treatment of stomal variceal bleeding with percutaneous transhepatic obliteration using a microballoon catheter concomitantly with drainage vein compression. A 72-year-old man with alcoholic cirrhosis was admitted to our hospital due to repeated hemorrhage of stomal varices. Percutaneous transhepatic obliteration was then selected for treatment because computed tomography revealed the stomal varices being fed by only two branches of the superior and inferior mesenteric veins.
