Polarons can control carrier mobility and can also be used in the design of quantum devices. Although much effort has been directed into investigating the nature of polarons, observation of defect-related polarons is challenging due to electron-defect scattering. Here we explore the polaronic behavior of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in a diamond crystal using an ultrafast pump-probe technique.

In particular, we focused on the middle temporal artery (MTA), which has not received much attention in indirect revascularization surgery for moyamoya disease until now.
Methods: We targeted 20 sides that were suitable for evaluating the diameter of the external carotid artery system involved in combined revascularization surgery among moyamoya disease patients who underwent a composite revascularization procedure utilizing a 'U'-shaped skin incision encircling the parietal branch of the superficial temporal artery (STA) at our institution from 2018 to 2023.
We previously examined the cellular uptake of six types of vitamin D in human intestinal Caco-2 cells. Since vitamins D-D were commercially unavailable, we synthesized these compounds organically before studying them. This process led us to understand that new secosteroids could be generated as vitamin D candidates, depending on the sterol used as the starting material.

We examined whether gasping during resuscitation is independently associated with favorable neurological outcomes in patients with refractory ventricular fibrillation or pulseless ventricular tachycardia (VF/pVT) undergoing extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation ECPR.
Methods: Data from a 2014 study on advanced cardiac life support for ventricular fibrillation with extracorporeal circulation in Japan (SAVE-J), which examined the efficacy of ECPR for refractory VF/pVT, were analyzed.
The phonon-drag effect is useful for improving the thermoelectric performance, especially the Seebeck coefficient. Therefore, the phonon and electron transport properties of Si single crystals at different carrier densities were investigated, and the relationship between these properties and the phonon-drag effect was clarified. Phonon transport properties were determined using nanoindentation and spot-periodic heating radiation thermometry.

Bonding is crucial to perinatal mental health. Despite an extensive body of literature on maternal bonding, few studies have focused on paternal bonding. This scoping review aimed to clarify the current state of the concept of paternal-infant/fetus bonding.

This report reviews the development, implementation, and refinement of this PCAC training course.
Methods: We examined the preserved data from the Japanese Circulation Society PCAC training courses between 2014 and 2020.
In this work, we investigate the temporal evolution of the degree of a given vertex in a network by mapping the dynamics into a random walk problem in degree space. We analyze when the degree approximates a preestablished value through a parallel with the first-passage problem of random walks. The method is illustrated on the time-dependent versions of the Erdős-Rényi and Watts-Strogatz models, which were originally formulated as static networks.

The protein layers on the nanoparticles, which are called the protein corona, influence the biological impacts of the nanoparticles, including internalization into cells and cytotoxicity. This study expands the scope of the nanoparticle's protein corona for exogenous artificial nanoparticles to that for exogenous proteinaceous nanoparticles.

Immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent methods were used to assess the distribution and quantification of total and perivascular microglial cell densities in 68 brains focusing on the frontal lobe WM and overlying neocortex in post-stroke dementia (PSD), post-stroke non-dementia (PSND) and similar age control subjects. We primarily used CD68 as a marker of phagocytic microglia, as well as other markers of microglia including Iba-1 and TMEM119, and the myeloid cell marker TREM2 to assess dementia-specific changes.

Over the course of time EMD developed into the comprehensive therapy approach named EMDR Therapy. The development of the "Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) Model", the model of pathogenesis and change of EMDR Therapy, was a milestone in this development from technique to psychotherapy approach.

The SHG intensity decreases in the temperature range of 20-300°C, due to phase mismatching caused by refractive index modification. We discover that optical phonon scattering outperforms acoustic phonon scattering in NV diamond by fitting the temperature dependence of the SHG intensity using a model based on the bandgap change via the deformation potential interaction.

Materials And Methods: Foam half-life times were measured in an ex-vivo benchtop study. Computed tomography (CT) images of each foam were obtained over the time course, and a CT texture analysis was conducted.
We investigated the effect of neutral lipids, polar lipids, and an emulsified formulation (EMF) on carotenoid bioaccessibility in an in vitro digestion assay of vegetables. These reagents enhanced carotenoid bioaccessibility. Contrary to our previous report, they also exhibited effects on lutein.

Although osteoblasts have active roles in cancer progression by assisting the vicious bone-destructive cycle, we employed a counterintuitive approach of activating pro-tumorigenic Wnt signaling and examined the paradoxical possibility of developing osteoblast-derived tumor-suppressive, bone-protective secretomes. s: Wnt signaling was activated by the overexpression of Lrp5 and β-catenin in osteoblasts as well as a pharmacological agent (BML284), and the therapeutic effects of their conditioned medium (CM) were evaluated using cell cultures, breast cancer tissues, and a mouse model of osteolysis.

Methods: A 4-field scheme aimed at patient stabilisation was taught to social workers for the application with children and adolescents in Northern Iraq. If possible, the stabilisation was followed by procedures aimed at memory reprocessing or modification within the eightphase EMDR protocol and (in all cases) with further care.
Background: The effect of in-hospital rapid cooling by intravenous ice-cold fluids for comatose survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is unclear.
Methods and results: From the J-PULSE-HYPO study registry, data for 248 comatose survivors with return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) who were treated with therapeutic hypothermia (34℃ for 12-72 h) after witnessed shockable OHCA were extracted. Patients were divided into 2 groups by the median collapse-to-ROSC interval (18 min), and then into 2 groups by cooling method (rapid cooling by intravenous ice-cold fluids vs.
Since the introduction of EMD by Dr. Shapiro in 1987, which led to the development of EMDR Therapy, clinical experiences and research contributed to a variety of protocols and procedures. While this dynamic evolution within EMDR Therapy is offering more options to treat a variety of patients suffering from various disorders, there is a greater risk of deviations from the core framework of this approach that would no longer be understood as EMDR Therapy.

However, crystalline, optical and electrical properties of heteroepitaxial grown LT-GaAs/Si can be very different from those grown on semi-insulating GaAs substrates ('reference'). In this study, we investigate optical properties of an epitaxial grown LT-GaAs/Si sample, compared to a reference grown under the same substrate temperature, and with the same layer thickness.
