This study aims to investigate the changes in bioenergetic pathway contributions during repeated sprint exercises with an increasing number of repetitions. Twelve male amateur soccer players executed a single 20 m sprint and three repeated-sprint protocols (5 × 20 m, 10 × 20 m, 15 × 20 m with 15-second rest intervals), analyzing oxidative, glycolytic, and ATP-PCr energy pathways using the PCr-LA-O2 method. Findings revealed a significant decline in energy expenditure and performance outputs as the number of sprint repetitions increased.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the use of contrast-enhanced cone beam CT (CE-CBCT) for better visualization of the distal part of clots during mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for ischemic strokes, as conventional imaging methods face challenges in this regard.!* -
  • Results showed that CE-CBCT significantly outperformed traditional imaging techniques like 3D rotational angiography (3DRA) and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in visualizing the distal edges of clots and the arteries beyond the blockage.!* -
  • Enhanced visualization with CE-CBCT correlated with improved MT effectiveness, demonstrated by higher rates of successful clot removal and better collateral blood flow, indicating its potential value in stroke treatment.!*

Wavefront shaping allows focusing light through or inside strongly scattering media, but the background intensity also increases which reduces the target's contrast. By combining transmission or deposition matrices for different regions, we construct joint operators to achieve spatially resolved control of light in diffusive systems. The eigenmode of a contrast operator can maximize the power contrast between a target and its surrounding.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate factors impacting cancer-specific survival (CSS) in muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) patients who did not respond to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) before undergoing radical cystectomy (RC).
  • Researchers examined various clinical and pathological characteristics, comparing NAC-responsive and NAC-non-responsive patients, focusing on data from 92 male-dominant participants averaging 61.5 years in age.
  • Results indicated that while factors like a higher ECOG score and fewer NAC cycles correlated with non-responsiveness, the only significant prognostic factor for CSS in non-responsive patients was the presence of ypN+ status.

Regardless of whether they are benign or malignant, phyllodes tumors can behave unpredictably and aggressively. Sometimes they grow so quickly and can cause clinically different, rare, and difficult situations to manage. Because of these characteristics, they can be fatal, even if they are benign.

Unlabelled: Computational methods have been established as cornerstones in optical imaging and holography in recent years. Every year, the dependence of optical imaging and holography on computational methods is increasing significantly to the extent that optical methods and components are being completely and efficiently replaced with computational methods at low cost. This roadmap reviews the current scenario in four major areas namely incoherent digital holography, quantitative phase imaging, imaging through scattering layers, and super-resolution imaging.

Although Blastocystis, a protozoan, is commonly found in all species of animals and in humans, there remains a lack of clear information about its epidemiology and routes of transmission. The aim of this meta-analysis study was to determine the changes in Blastocystis prevalence and subtype distribution in humans in Türkiye according to geographical regions. Databases were searched using the Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, EBSCO, and TRDizin to identify studies on the prevalence of Blastocystis in humans in Türkiye published from 2009 to 2023.

Objectives: In comparison to conventional combustible cigarettes, Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) including both e-cigarettes (ECs) and heated tobacco products (HTPs) significantly reduce exposure to toxic chemical emissions. However, their impact on dental plaque remains unclear. This study measures dental plaque in ENDS (ECs and HTPs) users using quantitative light-induced fluorescence (QLF) technology, comparing them with current, former, and never smokers.

Article Synopsis
  • Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) is crucial for managing patients with coronary artery disease during procedures like percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), but can pose risks if surgery is needed urgently.
  • Cangrelor, an intravenous medication, allows rapid and potent platelet inhibition, which can be quickly reversed, making it a potential solution for patients needing to temporarily stop DAPT.
  • In a case of a patient with recent PCI who developed an esophageal perforation, prolonged cangrelor use effectively helped manage the situation without causing any thrombotic or bleeding complications.

Objectives: Abstaining from tobacco smoking may not only improve general health, but also reduce teeth staining and restore teeth whiteness. Compared with conventional cigarettes, E-cigarettes (ECs) and heated tobacco products (HTPs) may offer substantial reduction in exposure to pigmented tar-like compounds of cigarette smoke. It is possible that improvements in dental color indices may be observed in those who have stopped smoking combustible cigarettes by switching to tar-free nicotine delivery products.

Objectives: We began with the hypothesis that the erector spinae plane block (ESPB) would decrease postoperative morphine consumption in patients scheduled for open subcostal nephrectomy.

Methods: After obtaining ethics committee approval and informed patient consent, American Society of Anesthesiologists I-II, 46 patients between the ages of 18 and 65 who were scheduled for elective nephrectomy with an anterior subcostal incision were included in this study. Patients were randomly divided into two groups, the ESPB and the control group, using the sealed envelope technique.

Objective: To report long-term functional and oncological outcomes of OPN Methods: We enrolled 182 patients who underwent consecutive OPN with a diagnosis of kidney tumor in our clinic between April 2002 and February 2020 and were selected from our prospective OPN database. Preoperative demographic and clinical characteristics, intraoperative and pathological results, and patients' postoperative functional and oncological follow-up data were retrospectively analyzed. Overall survival (OS) and disease- free survival (DFS) were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier survival analysis.

Background: Focal vasospasm (FV) of the occluded vessel can occur during the endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Nimodipine is commonly used to treat vasospasm and can play a role in distinguishing it from artery narrowing due to iatrogenic dissection or residual clot. However, nimodipine administration can result in arterial hypotension and subsequent enlargement of the ischemic core.

Increasing world population parallelly also brings an increase in food production and consumption. As food consumption increases, so do foodborne infections. In cases where adequate food safety and hygiene is not provided in places such as restaurants, dormitories, prisons, hospitals where mass feeding is made outside the home, many parasitic agents can be transmitted to people through food.
