Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the feasibility of using the wide-awake local anesthesia no-tourniquet (WALANT) technique for radial shortening osteotomy compared to the infraclavicular brachial plexus block (IBPB).
  • A total of 26 patients with Kienbock's disease were analyzed, divided into WALANT (11 patients) and IBPB (15 patients) groups, with outcomes measured by Visual Analog Scale (VAS), surgical times, and patient satisfaction.
  • Results indicated similar pain scores, satisfaction, and waiting times between both anesthesia methods, suggesting WALANT is a viable alternative with favorable outcomes for this type of surgery.

Background: We sought to report the clinical results of a new conservative treatment modality that uses a shape memory alloy device in patients with ingrown toenail.

Methods: A retrospective review was performed on 41 patients with ingrown toenail treated with the K-D device (S&C Biotech, Seoul, South Korea) between April 2013 and July 2014. Recurrence rate, cosmetic results, pain during the treatment period, and patient satisfaction were the major outcome measures.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of autologous blood injections compared to corticosteroid injections for treating lateral epicondylitis in patients.
  • A total of 80 participants (21 men, 59 women, mean age 45.2) were treated and assessed for pain, function, and grip strength at multiple intervals post-treatment.
  • Results showed that while corticosteroid injections provided quicker improvements initially, autologous blood injections ultimately led to greater long-term recovery, making it the recommended first-line treatment option.

Background: CD200 (OX-2) is a novel immune-effective molecule, existing in a cell membrane-bound form, as well as in a soluble form in serum (s OX-2), which acts to regulate inflammatory and acquired immune responses.

Material And Methods: We planned this study to evaluate the sOX-2 levels of type 2 diabetic foot (group B), and compare it with that of healthy controls (group A). The patient group had the following values: DM period: 27.

Article Synopsis
  • Hyperglycemia may lead to apoptosis, and TRAIL has been connected to diabetes, particularly in type 2 diabetic nephropathy patients with foot disease.
  • Twenty-two patients with diabetic nephropathy and foot ulcers were studied, examining their serum-soluble TRAIL and hs-CRP levels against healthy controls.
  • Results showed that patients had lower sTRAIL levels and that hs-CRP was linked to age and other health metrics, indicating that TRAIL may have a protective function in these patients.
