Effects of 1% amitriptyline gel and mouthwash in patients with periodontal diseases via local drug delivery system: A randomized control clinical trial.

Amitriptyline, an agent universally used to treat depression, has an anti-inflammatory activity and a potential for lowering inflammatory mediators. Periodontal diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis if untreated contributes to gingival tissue destruction and bone resorption. These diseases are commonly treated with conventional non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents and antibiotics along with standard periodontal treatment.

Cell membrane fatty acid and pigment composition of the psychrotolerant cyanobacterium Nodularia spumigena CHS1 isolated from Hopar glacier, Pakistan.

In the present study, cyanobacterium isolate CHS1 isolated from Hopar glacier, Pakistan, was analyzed for the first time for cell membrane fatty acids and production of pigments. Sequencing of the 16-23S intergenetic region confirmed identification of the isolate CHS1 as Nodularia spumigena. All chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments were quantified using high-performance liquid chromatography and experiments to test tolerance against a range of physico-chemical conditions were conducted.

Aim: The association of excision repair cross-complementing 1 mRNA (ERCC-1 mRNA) expression with the outcome has been reported with immunohistochemistry (IHC) using tumor tissue in head and neck cancer. We evaluated ERCC-1 mRNA expression by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) from peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBLs) as bio-predictor of locoregional failure (LRF) to chemoradiation (CRT) for locally advanced laryngeal squamous cell cancer (LALSCC).

Methods: A total of 107 male patients with LALSCC were enrolled in this prospective study.
