Huntington's disease (HD) is a neurodegenerative disease with autosomal dominant inheritance, and no radical cure for HD has been established. Qualitative studies are necessary to investigate the psychological state of individuals who underwent predictive testing for HD, because the psychosocial impact on noncarriers remains unclarified in Japan. Herein, we elucidated the psychosocial impact on the noncarriers for HD and the role of genetic counseling for predictive testing and follow-up after testing by examining their experiences with predictive testing.

Background: Post-colectomy pan-enteritis in ulcerative colitis (UC) is very rare, but it is often severe and fatal. We present a case of massive bleeding and perforation due to post-colectomy pan-enteritis, which showed a significant response to biologics in a UC patient.

Case Presentation: A 30-year-old woman with a 5-month history of pancolitis UC underwent subtotal colectomy with ileostomy and mucosal fistula for refractory UC.

Estimating time-series changes in social sentiment @Twitter in U.S. metropolises during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since early 2020, the global coronavirus pandemic has strained economic activities and traditional lifestyles. For such emergencies, our paper proposes a social sentiment estimation model that changes in response to infection conditions and state government orders. By designing mediation keywords that do not directly evoke coronavirus, it is possible to observe sentiment waveforms that vary as confirmed cases increase or decrease and as behavioral restrictions are ordered or lifted over a long period.

The use of information and communication technology in Japanese rural clinics.

High-speed information and communication technology (ICT) networks stretch all over Japan. However, their utility in facilitating rural healthcare remains uncharacterized. A nationwide questionnaire survey was sent by mail to 1,018 rural clinics constructed in a public manner in municipalities throughout Japan.

The 20k Samples-Per-Second Real Time Detection of Acoustic Vibration Based on Displacement Estimation of One-Dimensional Laser Speckle Images.

Audio signal acquisition using a laser speckle image is an appealing topic since it provides an accurate and non-contact solution for vibration measurement. However, due to the limitation of camera frame rate and image processing speed, previous research could not achieve real time reconstruction of an audio signal. In this manuscript, we use a one-dimensional laser speckle image to measure the acoustic vibration of sound source and propose a fast and sub-pixel accuracy algorithm to estimate the displacement of captured one-dimensional laser speckle images.

Objective: This systematic scoping review aims to clarify and map the range of natural disaster preparedness and response training for public health personnel around the world.

Introduction: Various preparedness and response training courses, exercises, and drills for public health professionals have been developed for natural disasters. Most of these focus on developing competency.

Real-time audio detection and regeneration of moving sound source based on optical flow algorithm of laser speckle images.

Sound detection with optical means is an appealing research topic. In this manuscript, we proposed a laser microphone system allowing simultaneous detection and regeneration of the audio signal by observing the movement of secondary speckle patterns. In the proposed system, optical flow method, along with some denoising algorithms are employed to obtain the motion information of the speckle sequence with high speed.

A Nationwide Survey of Obstetric Care Status on Japan's Islands, with Special Reference to Maternal Transport to the Mainland.

Safe obstetric care is a worldwide requirement. In Japan, a reduced number of obstetricians has prompted the centralization of obstetric facilities, and Japan's islands are expected to experience problems in handling deliveries. Although many pregnant women "move" to the mainland at later gestational weeks, "transport" from the island to the mainland may be occasionally needed when disorders manifest before the "move.

Perceptions of Residents among Rural Communities with Medical Group Practice in Japan.

Elucidating the perceptions of residents regarding medical group practice (GP) among rural communities (GP-R) in Japan will be useful for establishing this system in such communities. A survey by questionnaire, as made by experts in rural health, was conducted in 2017. The self-administered questionnaire inquired about the perceptions of residents for accepting the GP-R into the community's healthcare using seven major elements of GP-R.

Delta-Sigma Modulated Visible Light Communication Illumination System Using a Projector with the Digital Micro-Mirror Device.

There is a unique transmission method of visible light communication (VLC) that can transmit multiple data in multiple directions simultaneously by using a projector with the digital micro-mirror device (DMD). Previously, we proposed a method of transmitting data from the projector that transmits digitally modulated VLC signal from each pixel, and in this paper, we propose an extension of the method to transmit audio signal by using a special type of modulation called delta-sigma-modulation (DSM). The DSM-VLC system employs a simple receiver that comprises simple analog electric circuits, which contribute to low power consumption.
