With the goal to study dissipative Landau-Zener (LZ) sweeps in realistic solid-state qubits, we utilize novel methods from non-Markovian open quantum system dynamics that enable reliable long-time simulations for sub-Ohmic environments. In particular, we combine a novel representation of the dynamical propagator, the uniform time evolving matrix product operator method, with a stochastic realization of finite temperature fluctuations. The latter greatly reduces the computational cost for the matrix product operator approach, enabling convergence in the experimentally relevant deeply sub-Ohmic regime.

Three sulfur-containing alkaloids aplospojaveedins A-C (1-3) with a hitherto undescribed carbon skeleton comprising octahy-dronaphthalene, , -unsaturated lactam and glycine-cysteine moieties were isolated from . We present a novel method combining anodic aluminum oxide template synthesis and nanolithography to selectively deposit vertically patterned magnetic nanowires on a Si substrate. With this approach we fabricated three-dimensional nanowire-based spin valve devices without the need of complex etching processes or additional spacer coating. Through this method, we successfully obtained NiCu/Cu multilayered nanowire arrays with a controlled sequence along the long axis of the nanowires.

We present a fully quantum dynamical treatment of a quantum heat engine and its baths based on the Hierarchy of Pure States (HOPS), an exact and general method for open quantum system dynamics. We show how the change of the bath energy and the interaction energy can be determined within HOPS for arbitrary coupling strength and smooth time dependence of the modulation protocol. The dynamics of all energetic contributions during the operation can be carefully examined both in its initial transient phase and, also later, in its periodic steady state.

We synthesize a thin film composed of long carbyne chains terminated by gold clusters and study its optical properties. The presence of gold particles stabilizes longer chains and leads to their alignment. We show that the gold clusters also act as a source of electron doping, thus, changing the intensity of photoluminescence from quadratic dependence on the pumping intensity without gold to linear with gold.

The endoribonuclease RNase P is responsible for tRNA 5' maturation in all domains of life. A unique feature of RNase P is the variety of enzyme architectures, ranging from dual- to multi-subunit ribonucleoprotein forms with catalytic RNA subunits to protein-only enzymes, the latter occurring as single- or multi-subunit forms or homo-oligomeric assemblies. The protein-only enzymes evolved twice: a eukaryal protein-only RNase P termed PRORP and a bacterial/archaeal variant termed homolog of Aquifex RNase P (HARP); the latter replaced the RNA-based enzyme in a small group of thermophilic bacteria but otherwise coexists with the ribonucleoprotein enzyme in a few other bacteria as well as in those archaea that also encode a HARP.

RNase P is the endonuclease responsible for the 5' processing of precursor tRNAs (pre-tRNAs). Unlike the single-subunit protein-only RNase P (PRORP) found in plants or protists, human mitochondrial RNase P is a multi-enzyme assembly that in addition to the homologous PRORP subunit comprises a methyltransferase (TRMT10C) and a dehydrogenase (SDR5C1) subunit; these proteins, but not their enzymatic activities, are required for efficient pre-tRNA cleavage. Here we report a kinetic analysis of the cleavage reaction by human PRORP and its interplay with TRMT10C-SDR5C1 including 12 different mitochondrial pre-tRNAs.

Diffusion models have been widely used to obtain information about cognitive processes from the analysis of responses and response-time data in two-alternative forced-choice tasks. We present an implementation of the seven-parameter diffusion model, incorporating inter-trial variabilities in drift rate, non-decision time, and relative starting point, in the probabilistic programming language Stan. Stan is a free, open-source software that gives the user much flexibility in defining model properties such as the choice of priors and the model structure in a Bayesian framework.
