The topic of the diagnosis of phaeochromocytomas remains highly relevant because of advances in laboratory diagnostics, genetics, and therapeutic options and also the development of imaging methods. Computed tomography still represents an essential tool in clinical practice, especially in incidentally discovered adrenal masses; it allows morphological evaluation, including size, shape, necrosis, and unenhanced attenuation. More advanced post-processing tools to analyse digital images, such as texture analysis and radiomics, are currently being studied.

Background: Pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs) are rare neuroendocrine tumors. New drug targets and proteins that would assist sensitive PPGL imagining could improve therapy and quality of life of patients with PPGL, namely those with recurrent or metastatic disease. Using a combined proteomic strategy, we looked for such clinically relevant targets among integral membrane proteins (IMPs) upregulated on the surface of tumor cells and non-membrane druggable enzymes in PPGL.

In view of the tremendous emissions of toxic gases and particulate matter (PM) by low-power firewood-fueled fireplaces, there is an urgent need for effective measures to lower emissions to keep this renewable and economical source for private home heating available in the future. For this purpose, an advanced combustion air control system was developed and tested on a commercial fireplace (HKD7, Bunner GmbH, Eggenfelden, Germany), complemented with a commercial oxidation catalyst (EmTechEngineering GmbH, Leipzig, Germany) placed in the post-combustion zone. Combustion air stream control of the wood-log charge combustion was realized by five different control algorithms to describe all situations of combustion properly.

The synthesis and characterization of sol-gel-derived cornhusk support for low-temperature catalytic methane combustion (LTCMC) were investigated in this study. The prepared cornhusk support was impregnated with palladium and cerium oxide (Pd/CeO) via the classical incipient wetness method. The resulting catalyst was characterized using various techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), N physisorption (BET), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and hydrogen temperature-programmed reduction (H-TPR).

The quality of wood combustion processes can be effectively improved by achieving the automated control of the combustion air feed. For this purpose, continuous flue gas analysis using in situ sensors is essential. Besides the successfully introduced monitoring of the combustion temperature and the residual oxygen concentration, in this study, in addition, a planar gas sensor is suggested that utilizes the thermoelectric principle to measure the exothermic heat generated by the oxidation of unburnt reducing exhaust gas components such as carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (CH).

During endoscopic procedures for suspected urothelial tumors of the upper urinary tract, radiographic imaging using an iodinated contrast medium is often required. However, following ureteropyelography, we detected changes in cytology characteristics not correlating with real cytology findings in naive urine. The aim of our study was to assess cytology changes between naive and postcontrast urine according to The Paris System of cytology classification.

Article Synopsis
  • - Researchers found a new mutation in the Kv1.1 gene linked to neurological issues like epilepsy and ataxia in a young girl, and noted that treatments with standard medications were initially ineffective.
  • - The study aimed to understand how this specific mutation affects the function of the Kv1.1 channel by comparing it to the normal version, revealing that the mutation causes reduced potassium current and altered function.
  • - Findings suggest that mutations in the Kv1.1 channel are associated with severe epilepsy, and highlight the effectiveness of certain medications, like acetazolamide, in treating conditions related to this channel's dysfunction.

Already in 1912, Sabina Spielrein addressed the transforming and antagonistic movements of life that appear from conception in her work 'Destruction as the cause of coming into being'. Her writings form a bridge between Freud and Jung, as they establish the relationship between biological experiences and archetypes. In 1974 Lloyd deMause examined the intrinsic link between primary relational experiences, brain development and the system of beliefs and values of the Sapiens species.

Pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs) are rare neuroendocrine tumors arising from chromaffin cells of adrenal medulla or sympathetic or parasympathetic paraganglia, respectively. To identify new therapeutic targets, we performed a detailed membrane-focused proteomic analysis of five human paraganglioma (PGL) samples. Using the Pitchfork strategy, which combines specific enrichments of glycopeptides, hydrophobic transmembrane segments, and non-glycosylated extra-membrane peptides, we identified over 1800 integral membrane proteins (IMPs).

Background: Pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma (PPGL) are neuroendocrine tumors with frequent mutations in genes linked to the tricarboxylic acid cycle. However, no pathogenic variant has been found to date in succinyl-CoA ligase (SUCL), an enzyme that provides substrate for succinate dehydrogenase (SDH; mitochondrial complex II [CII]), a known tumor suppressor in PPGL.

Methods: A cohort of 352 patients with apparently sporadic PPGL underwent genetic testing using a panel of 54 genes developed at the National Institutes of Health, including the SUCLG2 subunit of SUCL.

Words in utterance-final positions are often pronounced more slowly than utterance-medial words, as previous studies on individual languages have shown. This paper provides a systematic cross-linguistic comparison of relative durations of final and penultimate words in utterances in terms of the degree to which such words are lengthened. The study uses time-aligned corpora from 10 genealogically, areally, and culturally diverse languages, including eight small, under-resourced, and mostly endangered languages, as well as English and Dutch.

Foci of splenic tissue separated from the spleen can occur as a congenital anomaly. Isolated nodules of splenic tissue are called accessory spleens or spleniculli. However, nodules of splenic tissue can merge with other organs during embryonic development, in which case we speak of spleno-visceral fusions: most often, they merge with the tail of the pancreas (thus forming spleno-pancreatic fusion or an intrapancreatic accessory spleen), with the reproductive gland (i.
