Southern right whales (Eubalaena australis) are mysticete cetaceans commonly observed in the coastal waters of Brazil, particularly in Santa Catarina State. There is limited understanding of the causes of calf mortality in this species, particularly concerning infectious diseases. We report a case of omphalophlebitis caused by Streptococcus equi subsp.

A growing number of therapies are being developed to target the cell cycle machinery for the treatment of cancer and other human diseases. Consequently, a greater understanding of the factors regulating cell cycle progression becomes essential to help enhance the response to these new therapies. Here, using data from the Cancer Dependency Map, we identified the poorly-studied factor FAM53C as a new regulator of cell cycle progression.

With the development of new growth-promoting drug treatment for children and adolescents with achondroplasia, multidisciplinary care has become increasingly more important. In addition to orthopedic care, a specialized team comprised of pediatrics/endocrinology, radiology, neurosurgery, otorhinolaryngology, anesthesiology, physiotherapy, psychology and other disciplines is necessary to develop and implement a holistic concept to improve the quality of life for individuals affected by achondroplasia.

ADA2 is a lysosomal deoxyadenosine deaminase acting on DNA involved in regulating TLR9-mediated immune sensing of DNA.

Although adenosine deaminase 2 (ADA2) is considered an extracellular ADA, evidence questions the physiological relevance of this activity. Our study reveals that ADA2 localizes within the lysosomes, where it is targeted through modifications of its glycan structures. We show that ADA2 interacts with DNA molecules, altering their sequences by converting deoxyadenosine (dA) to deoxyinosine (dI).

Introduction: Growth acceleration during postnatal growth only occurs during puberty as a physiological event and during catch-up growth mediated by growth-promoting therapies in growth disorders. Here we report on novel observations of skeletal symptoms during treatment with erdafitinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) prescribed on the basis of a compassionate-use program.

Methods: A total of 267 people analyzed standardized intraoral photographs of a female model in orthodontic treatment using: 1) only clear aligner (CA), the control group; 2) clear aligner+attachments (AT); 3) clear aligners+Cl II elastics (EL); 4) clear aligner+hybrid treatment with esthetic braces (HEB); 5) Clear aligner+hybrid treatment with metallic braces (HMB); 6) clear aligner+mini-implants (MI); 7) clear aligner+mini-implants and elastics for intrusion (MIE). In addition, a social media questionnaire was distributed to assess the willingness to undergo orthodontic treatment with various accessories.

In this study, a novel approach that combines optimisers with neural network surrogate models to significantly reduce the alignment overhead for a mobile soft X-ray spectrometer is proposed.

Induction and antiviral activity of ferret myxovirus resistance (Mx) protein 1 against influenza A viruses.

Myxovirus resistance (Mx) proteins are products of interferon stimulated genes (ISGs) and Mx proteins of different species have been reported to mediate antiviral activity against a number of viruses, including influenza A viruses (IAV). Ferrets are widely considered to represent the 'gold standard' small animal model for studying pathogenesis and immunity to human IAV infections, however little is known regarding the antiviral activity of ferret Mx proteins. Herein, we report induction of ferret (f)Mx1/2 in a ferret lung cell line and in airway tissues from IAV-infected ferrets, noting that fMx1 was induced to higher levels that fMx2 both in vitro and in vivo.

Chronic endoplasmic reticulum stress in myotonic dystrophy type 2 promotes autoimmunity via mitochondrial DNA release.

Myotonic dystrophy type 2 (DM2) is a tetranucleotide CCTG repeat expansion disease associated with an increased prevalence of autoimmunity. Here, we identified an elevated type I interferon (IFN) signature in peripheral blood mononuclear cells and primary fibroblasts of DM2 patients as a trigger of chronic immune stimulation. Although RNA-repeat accumulation was prevalent in the cytosol of DM2-patient fibroblasts, type-I IFN release did not depend on innate RNA immune sensors but rather the DNA sensor cGAS and the prevalence of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) in the cytoplasm.

Immunogenicity of tick-borne-encephalitis-virus-(TBEV)-vaccination and impact of age on humoral and cellular TBEV-specific immune responses in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Inactivated vaccines, such as tick-borne-encephalitis-virus-(TBEV) vaccine, have been discussed as less immunogenic in elderly and in immunocompromised patients. In this controlled cross-sectional cohort study, the antibody and cellular responses after TBEV-vaccination were investigated in 36 rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients and 112 healthy controls (HC) by evaluating IgG-anti-TBEV concentration, neutralization and relative avidity index (RAI). Cellular reactivity was assessed by IFNgamma-producing spot-forming-units (SFU) by ELISPOT assay and flow cytometry.

Evaluation of the impact of orthodontists' smile with malocclusions on social media and professional credibility.

Objectives: This study assessed laypeople's perceptions of orthodontist credibility based on malocclusions and whether these views affect their choice to seek treatment. Eye-tracking technology and questionnaires were utilized.

Materials And Methods: Ninety-five lay raters, through eye tracking and a questionnaire, assessed 12 images of orthodontists with malocclusions.

Formulation and characterisation of metyrapone suppositories for the first effective long-term use in an infant with McCune-Albright syndrome-related Cushing syndrome.

Objectives: The aim of this project was to develop a rectal formulation of metyrapone suitable for application in an infant hospitalised with McCune-Albright syndrome (MAS)-related Cushing syndrome and to provide a detailed description of the formulation protocol including quality control parameters.

Methods: Suppositories with a drug load of up to 100 mg metyrapone were prepared. Mass variation, content uniformity and drug release were analysed according to the guidelines set out by the European Pharmacopoeia.

The cytokine interleukin (IL)-11 has been shown to play a role in promoting fibrosis and cancer, including lung adenocarcinoma, garnering interest as an attractive target for therapeutic intervention. We used combinatorial methods to engineer an IL-11 variant that binds with higher affinity to the IL-11 receptor and stimulates enhanced receptor-mediated cell signaling. Introduction of two additional point mutations ablates IL-11 ligand/receptor association with the gp130 coreceptor signaling complex, resulting in a high-affinity receptor antagonist.

SUCCESSFUL USE OF METYRAPONE SUPPOSITORIES IN AN INFANT WITH NEONATAL CUSHING AND MCCUNE ALBRIGHT SYNDROME- A CASE REPORT.

A female toddler was diagnosed at age ten months with peripheral precocious puberty and hypercortisolism related to McCune Albright Syndrome with additional systemic complications. We present the first successful, long-term use of metyrapone as suppositories, with striking clinical and biochemical improvement and no side-effects.
