Compliance Monitoring Devices (CMDs) are instruments indicating if the 10-50 μm organism abundance in ballast water complies with the International Maritime Organizations' discharge standard. For that, they trade the presumed accuracy of detailed methods for speed and simplicity. In an experiment using UV-treated water, four CMDs were compared, using a Cohen's kappa analysis (ISO 3725), with two detailed methods: Fluorescence Microscopy (FM) and the Most Probable Number (MPN).

Materials And Methods: We conducted a systematic review of the literature and a cross-sectional study using an online questionnaire regarding teaching and assessment of professionalism in dental schools, members of the ADEE. The literature review identified 33 articles related to professionalism in dental curricula.
Background And Objective: While prostate cancer (PCa) incidence and mortality rates continue to rise, early detection of PCa remains highly controversial, and the research landscape is rapidly evolving. Existing systematic reviews (SRs) and meta-analyses (MAs) provide valuable insights, but often focus on single aspects of early detection, hindering a comprehensive understanding of the topic. We aim to fill this gap by providing a comprehensive SR of contemporary SRs covering different aspects of early detection of PCa in the European Union (EU) and the UK.

The aim of this study was to (i) identify current teaching practices and approaches to embedding Environmental Sustainability (ES) in the curriculum in ADEE attendee schools and (ii) explore existing barriers/challenges to incorporating ES in dental education and consider potential solutions.
Methodology: A mixed-methods approach was used to fulfil the aims of this study.

Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) (early) detection poses significant challenges, including unnecessary testing and the risk of potential overdiagnosis. The European Association of Urology therefore suggests an individual risk-adapted approach, incorporating risk calculators (RCs) into the PCa detection pathway. In the context of 'The PRostate Cancer Awareness and Initiative for Screening in the European Union' (PRAISE-U) project ( https://uroweb.

Screening may therefore be crucial to lower health care costs, morbidity, and mortality. This systematic review aimed to provide a contemporary overview of the costs and benefits of PCa screening programmes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPopulation-based organised repeated screening for prostate cancer has been found to reduce disease-specific mortality, but with substantial overdiagnosis leading to overtreatment. Although only very few countries have implemented a screening programme on a national level, individual prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing is common. This opportunistic testing may have little favourable impact, while stressing the side-effects.

It is not clear how OHP curricula are structured or delivered across Europe. The objectives of Part 2 of this paper series are: (i) to provide an overview of common practices in curriculum structure, the availability of facilities, staffing (faculty) and quality assurance processes and (ii) to consider how the existing programme structures align to stakeholder guidance documents.

Data regarding the current state of OHP education across Europe is limited. The aim of Part 1 of this series is to provide programme-level data for Primary Dental Degree Programmes, Dental Hygiene and Postgraduate Education.

This patient cohort was followed up a number of years later to determine outcomes and identify factors that predict further use of DGA.
Methods: A retrospective patient record review and cross-sectional survey was carried out on a convenience sample of 64 patients who had previously received dental treatment under general anesthesia.
Background: Diabetic foot ulcer infections (DFUIs) are the leading cause of lower-limb amputations, mediated predominantly by Staphylococcus aureus. pH-neutral electrochemically generated hypochlorous acid (anolyte) is a non-toxic, microbiocidal agent with significant potential for wound disinfection.
Aims: To investigate both the effectiveness of anolyte for microbial bioburden reduction in debrided ulcer tissues and the population of resident S.
Background: Realist methods offer a novel approach to intervention design. Such novelty is needed for effective oral health promotion interventions with people with intellectual developmental disabilities (IDD) and their carers because existing interventions are poorly described and lack theoretical underpinning. In this study, the steps between inception and final intervention development are presented, with an aim to expand understanding of how realist theorizing can be used to develop interventions, and to demonstrate theory-driven intervention development in the field of oral health promotion.

The Dublin Dental University Hospital (DDUH) sought to map the teaching activities for its undergraduate dental training programme to the GED. This paper describes the process developed for curriculum mapping.

It is unknown if these tendons heal. The purpose of this prospective study is to examine short external rotator tendon healing after release and the associated effect on muscle volume.

This study investigates the changes in supra- and infra-renal aortic neck diameters before and after endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) for rAAA and the possible association with endograft apposition. A retrospective cohort study was conducted including 74 patients treated between 2010 and 2019 in two large European vascular centers.

There is little agreement regarding how best to design and deliver training for healthcare trainees to impart the skills and behaviours of clinical empathy. The study aimed to inform the field by sharing an educational intervention where we aimed to improve empathy amongst dental undergraduate students in Trinity College Dublin using a virtual learning module.

Aim: To report the international impact of COVID-19 lockdown on oral healthcare provision for people with disabilities before, during and after the first lockdown (March to July 2020).
Material And Methods: Cross-sectional online self-administered survey of dentists who treat people with disabilities completed 10th to 31st of July 2020.
This study aimed to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on the experiences of special care dentistry providers worldwide. An online survey was administered from 10 to 31 July 2020. Age, sex, years of professional activity, COVID-19 status, geographical area of origin and length of lockdown period were recorded for all participating dentists.

Appropriate research tools are therefore needed. This study reports the construction and evaluation of the Oral Status Survey Tool (OSST), designed to be administered with people with disabilities by non-dental personnel.

In turn, the perceived importance of environmental sustainability within higher education is growing at a rapid rate. This paper provides a summary of key elements as they apply to dentistry, and provides an introduction to the reader of an early consensus of how sustainability could be included as part of the dental curriculum.

We also examined the possibility of a biopsy site interfering with assessment of WPOI5 in small tumors. We reviewed all OSCCs ≤ 20 mm size and ≤ 10 mm depth reported at our institution over a 5-year period.

Methods: A retrospective review was carried out of the clinical notes relating to oral lesions histologically diagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), carcinoma in-situ, or epithelial dysplasia from biopsies performed in hospital-based specialist units and submitted to a diagnostic pathology service based in Dublin, Ireland, between June and December 2015. In addition to sex, age, and smoking status, details were collected relating to the diagnosis, how the lesion was detected, and by whom.
