Osteoradionecrosis (ORN) is a nemesis of radiotherapy which adversely affects the life of an individual. It is more often seen with conventional external beam radiotherapy using telecobalt machine. Newer radiotherapy techniques are being used in developed nations to circumvent its inherent disadvantages.

The nonlinear optical properties of push-pull chromophores, namely (E)-7-(4-bromophenyl)-2,5-bis(4-nitrophenyl)-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2H-1,2-diazepin-4-ol (A-π-D-π-A) and (E)-7-(4-bromophenyl)-5-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-phenyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2H-1,2-diazepin-4-ol (A-π-D-π-D), have been investigated using the z-scan technique. NMR, FT-IR, and UV-visible spectral analysis have been performed. The results were compared with density functional theory calculations employing the B3LYP/6-311++G (d, p) basis set.

In this article, the structural and nonlinear optical behaviour of a chalcone derivative, (2E)-1-(4-ethoxyphenyl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one have been studied. FT-IR, FT-Raman, and NMR spectroscopy were analyzed to validate the molecular structure. To predict the nonlinear optical characteristics of the chalcone, the DFT approach was used and the experimental results were corroborated by the computations.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare type of tumor that usually originates from minor salivary glands in the oral cavity. ACC of the larynx is even rare. This case study describes a 36-year-old non-smoking male farmer who initially presented with dyspnea and was misdiagnosed with bronchial asthma.

Article Synopsis
  • - Mechanical ventilation and intubation can lead to airway damage, causing excessive mucus production and increasing the risk of respiratory failure after patients are extubated.
  • - Excess mucus may block airways and cause lung collapse, requiring additional support measures like oxygen therapy or, in rare cases, reintubation.
  • - The study highlights the importance of chest physiotherapy techniques, such as percussion and positioning, as well as bronchoscopy for clearing mucus and preventing lung collapse in postoperative patients.

Here, we report a case of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in a 21-year-old man who presented with symptoms of gastric discomfort, hematemesis, breathlessness, dry cough, chest pain, loss of appetite, and weight loss. He had a history of pleural effusion and was previously diagnosed with tuberculosis. Further investigations revealed a mediastinal mass.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the optoelectronic and cubic nonlinear optical properties of a specific benzodiazepine compound using advanced techniques like the Z-scan method and density functional theory (DFT).
  • Nonlinear optical measurements including absorption and refraction were performed with a Nd:YAG laser, revealing that substituents like -NO and -Br enhance the compound's hyperpolarizability and affect self-focusing behavior.
  • Results suggest that the compound has promising applications in optoelectronics and photonics due to its tunable properties based on substituent variations.

The present study investigates the development of distinct UV-A and UV-B radiation filtering materials through the introduction of a heterocyclic bischalcone derivative [(3,5-bis{[4-(methylsulfanyl)phenyl]methylidene}piperidin-4-one] () into the matrix of PVA/Piscean collagen blend films (1:1) prepared through the solution casting method and characterized. The dopant concentration varied from 0.25 to 4%.
