Objectives: The primate foot has been extensively investigated because of its role in weight-bearing; however, the calcaneus has been relatively understudied. Here we examine entire gorilla calcaneal external shape to understand its relationship with locomotor behavior.
Materials And Methods: Calcanei of Gorilla gorilla gorilla (n = 43), Gorilla beringei graueri (n = 20), and Gorilla beringei beringei (n = 15) were surface or micro-CT scanned.
Purpose Of Review: The topic of sex doll ownership is becoming an increasingly discussed issue from both a social and legal perspective. This review aims to examine the veracity of the existing psychological, sexological, and legal literature in relation to doll ownership.
Recent Findings: Strong views exist across the spectrum of potential socio-legal positions on sex doll ownership.
Wildlife ranching, although not considered a conventional conservation system, provides a sustainable model for wildlife utilization and could be a source of valuable genetic material. However, increased fragmentation and intensive management may threaten the evolutionary potential and conservation value of species. Disease-free Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer caffer) in southern Africa exist in populations with a variety of histories and management practices.

As the popularity of keeping hedgehogs as pets increases, there have been reports of Trichophyton species infection in humans. Diagnosis and appropriate treatment of Trichophyton infection can be delayed owing to physicians' low index of suspicion and unfamiliarity with the physical manifestations.

We formally define multiplexing, mathematically characterise which systems can multiplex and how well they can do it. While the results of this paper are theoretical, to motivate the idea of multiplexing, we provide experimental evidence that tentatively suggests that the NF-κB transcription factor can multiplex information about changes in multiple signals.

This study assessed an initiative to train providers at school-based health centers (SBHCs) to offer students the full range of contraceptive methods.
Design: Surveys were administered at baseline pre-training and at follow-up 3 months post-training.

Context: It is accepted as the norm that couples in South Asia begin childbearing immediately after marriage and that, even if they would like to delay, they are pressured to have children by household members. Little research, however, has explored the desire to delay childbearing among newly married couples and their household members in Nepal-a setting with changing marriage formation patterns, increasing women's education and falling fertility.
Methods: To explore the dynamics of current childbearing desires, in-depth interviews of 20 intact triads of newly married women, their husbands and their mothers-in-law were conducted in one district of Nepal in February-March 2017.

Background And Objective: To describe a safe and dependable protocol for intravitreal injections for the treatment of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).
Materials And Methods: SAFER is an acronym used to describe the injection protocol and includes (S)hort needle (4-mm length), (A)ntiseptic/antibiotic (5% to 10% topical betadine), (F)ollowup (48 to 72 hours post-injection), (E)xtra attention to detail (clean environment, injection site 0.75 mm to 1.
Purpose: Sexual and gender minority youth (SGM), an umbrella term encompassing gay, bisexual, and transgender youth, experience disproportionately high rates of new HIV infections, and recent advances in biomedical HIV prevention modalities hold promise in reducing new infections. However, the extent to which SGM youth are aware of and willing to use these modalities is unknown.
Methods: Using data from the Survey of Today's Adolescents Relationships and Transitions, we analyze awareness of and willingness to take HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), nonoccupational HIV post-exposure prophylaxis, and rectal microbicides among adolescent sexual minority males aged 13-18 years and transgender youth aged 13-24 years.
Purpose: To investigate a predisposition to mandibular angle fractures, a retrospective study was performed in which fractured mandibles were compared with healthy mandibles with no history of fracture. Other investigations of angle fracture risk have exclusively studied patients with existing fractures. In addition, the risk has not been comprehensively explained in conjunction with the specific features of mandibular anatomy.

We now aim to evaluate whether these effects are sustained longer term (ie, at 36 months). 101 postmenopausal women were randomized to either 12 months of moderate (25 to 35%) energy restriction with a food-based diet (moderate intervention), or 4 months of severe (65 to 75%) energy restriction with a total meal replacement diet followed by moderate energy restriction for 8 months (severe intervention).

Moreover, Rhynie chert fossils of glomeromycotan propagules suggest that this lineage of arbuscular fungi was morphologically diverse by the Early Devonian; however, only a small fraction of this diversity has been formally described and critically evaluated.
Methods: Thin sections, previously prepared by grinding wafers of chert from the Rhynie beds, were studied by transmitted light microscopy.
Objective: To evaluate the association of different contraceptive methods on the incidence and severity of acne.
Methods: Using a de-identified commercial claims database, we performed a retrospective cohort study evaluating the incidence of clinical encounters for acne in the first year after initiation of contraception among female patients aged 12-40 years who were new contraceptive users. To evaluate the association of contraception class with acne severity, a subgroup analysis was performed among a cohort of patients with a history of acne examining the incidence of treatment escalation from topical acne medications to an oral tetracycline-class antibiotic in the year after initiation of contraception.
Cognitive impairment is a prominent and difficult to treat symptom in schizophrenia (SZ), which is directly related to functional disability. A variant in the gene coding for the alpha 1C subunit of L-type voltage gated calcium channel (CACNA1C) has been shown to negatively affect several neurocognitive domains. We conducted a 4-week, open label, pilot study of isradipine, a calcium channel blocker, to determine its feasibility, safety, and efficacy in improving cognition in SZ patients.

We aimed to define the timing of surgery following an initial corticosteroid injection and identify patient-specific factors that influence the likelihood of repeat injection or surgery.
Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of all patients who underwent a first-time corticosteroid injection for carpometacarpal arthritis between 2009 and 2017.
In mid-2019, medical, forensic and legal communities were notified that a certain shipment of evacuated blood sampling tubes were recalled by the manufacturer. This recall order described that the preservative sodium fluoride (100 mg) and anticoagulant potassium oxalate (20 mg) were missing from a small batch of 10-mL evacuated tubes. This gave cause for concern for possible implications in criminal justice (e.

For example, the bacterial pathogen strain DC3000 (PtoDC3000) produces the plant hormone auxin (indole-3-acetic acid [IAA]) to promote PtoDC3000 growth in plant tissue. Previous studies suggest that auxin may promote PtoDC3000 pathogenesis through multiple mechanisms, including both suppression of salicylic acid (SA)-mediated host defenses and via an unknown mechanism that appears to be independent of SA.

Our previous research showed that DDR1 could regulate smooth muscle cell trans-differentiation, fibrosis and calcification in the vascular system in cardiometabolic disease. This spectrum of activity led us to question whether DDR1 might also regulate adipose tissue fibrosis and remodeling.

In the current context of the global pandemic of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19), health professionals are working with social scientists to inform government policy on how to slow the spread of the virus. An increasing amount of social scientific research has looked at the role of public message framing, for instance, but few studies have thus far examined the role of individual differences in emotional and personality-based variables in predicting virus-mitigating behaviors. In this study, we recruited a large international community sample ( = 324) to complete measures of self-perceived risk of contracting COVID-19, fear of the virus, moral foundations, political orientation, and behavior change in response to the pandemic.
