Multistate cholera outbreak in Sudan amidst ongoing armed conflict, 2023-2024.

In 2023, Sudan was affected by a major cholera outbreak affected 10 states amidst armed conflict that severely disrupted the health services. This study aimed to describe the magnitude, pattern, and trend (2023-2024) of cholera outbreak in Sudan across different states. Cholera outbreak caused significant morbidity and mortality facilitated the armed conflict that hampered the response by damaging infrastructure, displacing people, and disrupting healthcare services.

Higher and Middle Management Perspectives on Patient-Centered Care in an Oncology Setting: A Qualitative Study.

Background: Patient center care (PCC) plays a crucial role in achieving the organizational and patient outcomes. Literature suggests that PCC enhance patient's adherence to treatment, lower the cost of health care organization. This study aimed explore the higher and middle managers' perceptions of patient-centered care (PCC) in an oncology setting, identify the PCC implementation challenges in the oncology setting, and understand the role of managers in facilitating PCC within the oncology context.

Background: Cholera outbreak is a significant public health threat in some parts of Sudan. In 2023, there was a large-scale outbreak in Gadarif State.

Aim: To analyse the 2023 cholera outbreak in Sudan and recommend prevention and control measures for the future.

Impact of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classification on hip fracture surgery outcomes: insights from a retrospective analysis.

Background: The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classification is the most used system to assess patient health status before surgery, ranging from I to V levels. This study aims to explore the impact of different ASA risk classes (ASA II [mild risk] and ASA III [severe risk]) on clinical outcomes following hip fracture surgery, including all-cause mortality and postoperative complications.

Methods: A retrospective analysis from 2019 to 2021 across three Jordanian centers was conducted.

Prevalence of the protective OAS1 rs10774671-G allele against severe COVID-19 in Moroccans: implications for a North African Neanderthal connection.

The clinical presentation of COVID-19 shows high variability among individuals, which is partly due to genetic factors. The OAS1/2/3 cluster has been found to be strongly associated with COVID-19 severity. We examined this locus in the Moroccan population for the occurrence of the critical variant rs10774671 and its respective haplotype blocks.

Introduction: Neutralizing antibodies (NAbs) are an important specific defence against viral infections, as these antibodies bind to specific receptor(s) and block the viral entry. NAbs assessments are therefore useful in determining individual or herd immunity to SARS-CoV-2. This study aims to deepen the investigation by assessing the positivity rate of neutralizing anti-spike antibodies to understand the real protection of the studied population against SARS-CoV-2.

Quercetin and L-Arginine Ameliorated the Deleterious Effects of Copper Oxide Nanoparticles on the Liver of Mice Through Anti-inflammatory and Anti-apoptotic Pathways.

The widespread use and applications of copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) in daily life make human exposure to these particles inevitable. This study was carried out to investigate the deteriorations in hepatic and serum biochemical parameters induced by CuO NPs in adult male mice and the potential ameliorative effect of L-arginine and quercetin, either alone or in combination. Seventy adult male mice were equally allocated into seven groups: untreated group, L-arginine, quercetin, CuO NPs, arginine + CuO NPs, quercetin + CuO NPs, and quercetin + arginine + CuO NPs.

COVID-19 in Morocco's region: Observational study of prevalence in symptomatic adults using the PANBIOS® rapid antigen test September 2021.

Background: Rapid antigen tests have emerged to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Rapid diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection is essential to reduce the spread of the disease. Retrovesical hydatid cyst: an unusual location of hydatid disease about a case series.

Unlabelled: Hydatid disease is an endemic zoonosis in regions with temperate climates where pastoral farming is common. Retrovesical localization is rare. Given the rarity of this entity, the lack of personal clinical experience, and the difficulty with detecting early symptoms, the diagnosis remains elusive for years.

Background And Aim: Vaccination against COVID-19 was one of the most important resolute to stop the spread of the pandemic; however, its acceptance was controversial especially by pregnant and lactating women. This study aims to assess the prevalence of vaccination among participants as well as to explore the determinants of reluctance or adherence to vaccination among this population, and to investigate the intention towards vaccination among the unvaccinated.

Method: This is a cross-sectional study conducted among mothers (n = 458) residing in the prefecture of Skhirat-Temara in Morocco, and who have children aged between one month to 2 years, the survey was conducted on the basis of a semi-structured questionnaire.

Introduction: Insulin degludec (degludec) has proven benefits in type 2 diabetes (T2D), in terms of improved glycaemic control, low risk of hypoglycaemia, and flexibility in dosing time. This prospective non-interventional UPDATES study aimed to investigate whether results obtained from randomised clinical trials and other real-world studies with degludec are generalisable to patients with T2D in routine clinical practice in Saudi Arabia.

Methods: Eligible adults (n = 561) with T2D received degludec for 26-34 weeks, at physicians' discretion and in accordance with local routine clinical practice.

Background: Heart failure complicating acute coronary syndrome (ACS) remains a challenge because it is associated with a high risk of mortality at 1 year.Our objective is to highlight the factors frequently associated with heart failure following an ACS and thus deduce the predictive factors for the occurrence of heart failure.

Describe a case of acquired heterochromia after intraocular surgery. A 63-year-old healthy female patient presented to the eye clinic with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in her left eye. She underwent uncomplicated pars plana vitrectomy with implantation of posterior chamber intraocular lens.

Post-Validation Survey in Two Districts of Morocco after the Elimination of Trachoma as a Public Health Problem.

Trachoma is the leading infectious cause of blindness. In 2016, Morocco was validated by WHO as having eliminated trachoma as a public health problem. We evaluated two previously endemic districts in Morocco for trachomatous inflammation-follicular (TF), trachomatous trichiasis (TT), and antibodies against Chlamydia trachomatis, the causative agent of trachoma.

Food waste management is increasingly being emphasized globally due to its economic and environmental impacts and strategic transformation towards sustainability. This can be observed from the increasing number of zero food waste (ZFW) initiatives that are being adopted by communities and institutions, including universities. Food waste composting, in particular, is increasingly being used for food waste recovery on university campuses.

Background: The process of blood sampling is considered one of the primary and most common nursing invasive procedures carried out daily. Any failure at any point could have a severe negative impact on patient outcomes.

COVID-19 is a pandemic disease that recently been spreading all over the globe. Health-care bodies recognize that organized and written protocols are essential tools to help in fighting this highly contagious virus. In this review, we published our protocol and recommendations in the pediatric anesthesia department in our hospital in preparation for the management of children who are confirmed or suspected in perioperative periods.

Serological screening of HIV and viral hepatitis revealed low prevalence among visceral leishmaniosis patients in Sudan.

There is an increasing concern about the co-infection of visceral leishmaniosis (VL) with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and/or viral hepatitis B/C. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of HIV and viral hepatitis co-infections among VL patients in a hyperendemic area in Eastern Sudan and to assess antibody levels in co-infected patients. This is a retrospective study where the sera of confirmed VL cases and non-VL individuals were analysed.

Synthesis, structural characterization and in vivo anti-diabetic evaluation of some new sulfonylurea derivatives in normal and silicate coated nanoparticle forms as anti-hyperglycemic agents.

Series of new sulfonylurea derivatives (gliclazide analogues) was synthesized and characterized. Thus, p-tolylsulfonylisocyanate was left to react with different amino derivatives under mild conditions to afford the desired sulfonylurea derivatives 1-5. The molecular structure of the compound N-(2,6-Dichlorophenylcarbamoyl)-4-methylbenzenesulfonamide, 1c has been elucidated by single crystal X-ray diffraction.
