Parental wellbeing, parenting, and child mental health in families with young children in Arghakhanchi, Nepal.

Background: Children's social-emotional development and mental well-being are critical to adult mental health. However, little is known about the mechanisms or factors that contribute to poor child mental health in low- and middle-income countries. Given the lack of child mental health research to guide interventions or social-emotional learning programs and policy planning, the present study aimed to address these knowledge gaps by examining the psychopathology mechanism involved in the development of childhood mental health problems.

Evaluation of intranasal TLR2/6 agonist INNA-051: safety, tolerability and proof of pharmacology.

Background: Local priming of the innate immune system with a Toll-like receptor (TLR)2/6 agonist may reduce morbidity and mortality associated with viral respiratory tract infections, particularly for the elderly and those with chronic diseases. The objectives of the present study were to understand the potential of prophylactic treatment with a TLR2/6 agonist as an enhancer of innate immunity pathways leading to accelerated respiratory virus clearance from the upper airways.

Methods: Two randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials were conducted in healthy adult participants.

Assessing maternal and neonatal near-miss reviews in rural Nepal: an implementation research study to inform scale-up.

Aim: To understand how maternal and neonatal near-miss reviews could be implemented and scaled-up in rural communities through the existing district health system in Nepal.

Methods: Mixed methods with a modified time series evaluation design were used. The World Health Organization maternal and neonatal near-miss criteria used in multicountry surveys were adapted and used to define maternal and neonatal near-miss cases.

Intraspecific and interspecific genetic variation of Gongylonema pulchrum and two rodent Gongylonema spp. (G. aegypti and G. neoplasticum), with the proposal of G. nepalensis n. sp. for the isolate in water buffaloes from Nepal.

The gullet worm (Gongylonema pulchrum) has been recorded from a variety of mammals worldwide. In an earlier study, we demonstrated two separate transmission cycles in cattle (Bos taurus) and wild mammals in Japan based on nucleotide sequences of the ribosomal RNA gene (rDNA) and cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (cox-1) region of mitochondrial DNA of multiple isolates of different origins. Molecular phylogenetic identification of Fasciola flukes in Nepal.

Eighty-one Fasciola flukes collected from 8 districts in Nepal were analyzed for their species identification on the basis of their spermatogenic status and nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1) and for their phylogenetic relation with Fasciola flukes from other Asian countries on the basis of the mitochondrial NADH dehydrogenase subunit 1 (nad1) gene. Sixty-one flukes (75.3%) were aspermic Fasciola sp.

A distinct genetic population of Gongylonema pulchrum from water buffaloes in Nepal.

Whole-length esophagi of 111 Murrah cross water buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) were collected in the Kathmandu and Chitwan districts of Nepal from December 2009 to February 2010. Gullet worms showing a typical epithelium-dwelling character were detected in 13 of 53 (24.5%) buffaloes in Kathmandu and in 5 of 58 (8.
