Purpose: This study aims to compare the biomechanical performance of elastic and static suture-based cerclage systems to traditional screw constructs in the setting of modeled glenoid bony augmentation.
Methods: Biomechanical testing was conducted on polyurethane cellular foam blocks modeling a 20 % glenoid defect repaired with a coracoid graft. Constructs consisted of an elastic suture-based cerclage, static suture-based cerclage, and a two-screw construct.
Lateral patellar dislocations represent a common orthopaedic condition in young, active individuals who experience patellar instability. Despite increasing interest in re-creating the natural biomechanics and native knee anatomy when performing medial patellar soft-tissue reconstructive procedures, there is no consensus among surgeons regarding the best techniques to use when reconstructing the medial patellofemoral ligament and medial quadriceps tendon-femoral ligament. This article details a method to reconstruct the medial patellofemoral ligament and medial quadriceps tendon-femoral ligament using a single graft and a single all-suture knotless anchor on the patella.

Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is transmitted by species of mosquitoes. In 2022, JEV belonging to a previously unrecognized lineage of genotype IV (GIV) caused a major outbreak of JE in South-eastern Australia, resulting in human cases and affecting piggeries. has previously been implicated as the major vector of JEV in northern Australia where the virus has circulated since its first detection in 1995.

Physiological regulation of GLUT4 translocation during exercise and increased GLUT4 expression following exercise involves multiple, redundant signalling pathways. These include effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted with board-certified physical therapists. A qualitative questionnaire was used to gather physical therapists' demographics and the recommended number of physical therapy visits to achieve a full recovery after 11 common orthopedic diagnoses.
In a 77-year-old former world-record-holding male marathoner (2:08:33.6), this study sought to investigate the impact of lifelong intensive endurance exercise on cardiac structure, function, and the trajectory of functional capacity (determined by maximal oxygen consumption, V̇o) throughout the adult lifespan. As a competitive runner, our athlete (DC) reported performing up to 150-300 miles/wk of moderate-to-vigorous exercise and sustained 10-15 h/wk of endurance exercise after retirement from competition.

As it is so common, there are numerous techniques and approaches to correct the deformity. Currently, there is a growing trend that favors percutaneous osteotomy of the bunionette.

The purpose of this prospective cohort study is to identify if actigraphy can serve as a valid means for objective evaluation of shoulder function and motion before and after shoulder arthroplasty. Secondarily, the data collected by the actigraphy can be analyzed with standard patient-reported outcomes to report correlations between the subjective and objective methods used in this study.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears are one of the most common knee injuries experienced by active individuals engaging in cutting sports. Despite improved surgical techniques and rehabilitation, the return to sport rate and re-tear rates remain unsatisfactory. Lateral extra-articular tenodesis (LET) is a procedure that has been growing in interest when performed in conjunction with ACL reconstruction.

The purpose of this study was to determine the detrimental impact of sling usage on mobility and balance in an older adult population through validated gait and balance testing. The authors hypothesize that sling use will negatively affect balance and stability.

Purpose: The purpose of this systematic review is to consolidate outcomes of obese patients undergoing high tibial osteotomy and to investigate the effect of obesity on postoperative outcomes, including symptomatic relief and time to conversion to arthroplasty.
Methods: Medline, Embase and Cochrane Library were searched from database inception up to April 2023 according to PRISMA guidelines by two reviewers. Search terms including 'obesity', 'BMI', 'osteotomy' and 'high tibial osteotomy (HTO)' were included to identify all relevant articles.
Background: The stability of the hindfoot greatly relies on the integrity of the talonavicular joint. Pathologies affecting this joint often necessitate fusion. Our study explores the risks posed to neurovascular and tendon structures during simulated percutaneous talonavicular joint preparation for fusion.

In this study we investigate how clinical outcomes and complications of partial rotator cuff repair compare to simple debridement in the treatment of irreparable rotator cuff tears.
Materials And Methods: A total of 1594 publications were identified on PubMed from 1946 to 2017 with 16 level III to level IV studies that were reviewed according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.
Objectives: Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) is an uncommon neurovascular disorder that presents as neck and upper extremity pain secondary to brachial plexus trunk or subclavian vasculature compression. The orthopedic literature has correlated patient-reported allergies to postoperative patient-reported outcome (PRO) scores for a variety of surgical procedures. We sought to evaluate patient-reported allergies and PROs following surgical decompression for TOS.

The purpose of this study was to assess the frequency and degree of posterior lateral meniscal overhang (LMO) of the lateral meniscus in patients with ACL tears compared to uninjured controls.
Materials And Methods: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was analyzed in 117 knees with ACL tears and compared to a control group of 89 knees without injury.
Background: Studies have indicated a correlation between patients presenting with decreased gluteus medius function and a history of lumbar pathology (LP). However, literature investigating the relationship between the prevalence of lumbar pathology in patients with gluteus medius tears is lacking. The purpose of this study is to determine if patients undergoing repair for gluteus medius tears have concomitant lumbar pathology.

Materials And Methods: Pubmed, Google Scholar and Embase were searched for studies reporting load-to-failure measurements of BTB allografts following gamma or eBeam irradiation. All systematic reviews, editorials, as well as studies that utilized animal models and/or other graft sources (achilles, hamstring, quadriceps) were excluded.
The need to detect fentanyl and its analogs in the field is an important capability to help prevent unintentional exposure or overdose on these substances, which may result in death. Many portable methods historically used in the field by first responders and other field users to detect and identify other chemical substances, such as hazardous materials, have been applied to the detection and identification of these synthetic opioids. This paper describes field portable spectroscopic methods used for the detection and identification of fentanyl and its analogs.

While insulin is secreted after food intake and is the primary hormone increasing glucose storage as glycogen and fatty acid storage as triglycerides, exercise is a condition where fuel stores need to be mobilized and oxidized. Thus, during physical activity the fuel storage effects of insulin need to be suppressed.

We used the Southern Community Cohort Study of people residing in 12 states in the southeastern United States (n=38,200 participants) to examine associations between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and chronic disease risk. After adjustment for confounding, there were statistically significant positive associations for people reporting four or more ACEs relative to those reporting no ACEs, and this was true for all chronic diseases except hypertension. The most elevated risk was seen for depression when measured as a yes/no variable (odds ratio (OR) 2.

Materials And Methods: 36 sub-acute stroke survivors (61 years+/-15) attended for assessment sessions at 3, 6, and 12 weeks after stroke. Individuals were randomised to receive 6 high repetition arm training sessions between 3 and 6 weeks (intervention) or the control group.
Since ancient times, the health benefits of regular physical activity/exercise have been recognized and the classic studies of Morris and Paffenbarger provided the epidemiological evidence in support of such an association. Cardiorespiratory fitness, often measured by maximal oxygen uptake, and habitual physical activity levels are inversely related to mortality. Thus, studies exploring the biological bases of the health benefits of exercise have largely focused on the cardiovascular system and skeletal muscle (mass and metabolism), although there is increasing evidence that multiple tissues and organ systems are influenced by regular exercise.
