Aims: Somatic complaints are a frequent cause for consultation in primary care. In a transcultural context, somatic complaints are typically associated with psychological distress. A recent review about somatic symptom disorders in adolescence showed some nosographic heterogeneity and outlined various etiological hypotheses (traumatic, environmental, or neurologic), separate from the cross-cultural considerations.

Introduction: The bodily expression of psychological disorders is one of the leading motives for consultations in adolescent medicine. The diagnostic entity corresponding to DSM-5 "Somatic symptom and related disorders" is sparsely used in the English-language literature, especially for adolescents. Qualitative studies on this topic mostly concern the experiences of healthcare professionals.

Theo's clinical observation illustrates the management of a 14-year-old adolescent with unexplained somatic symptoms. His symptoms can be integrated into what the classification of mental illnesses calls a somatic symptom disorder, with a depressive comorbidity. The description of the care pathway shows the gradual acceptance of psychological suffering by the adolescent and his parents in a service where different professionals are involved, with sufficient time for a good therapeutic alliance to be built.

Objectives: Body expression of mental disorders is common in adolescence. Only two literature reviews over the last five years have been identified about somatoform disorders in children., The present article provides a systematic review of articles in English, which concern "Somatic Symptom and Related Disorders" according to the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual - 5th Edition) among adolescents.

In the current area of social media propagation, the adoptees' search for the birth family is increasingly reversed: more and more adopted adolescents are contacted directly by their birth parents, even if they did not search for them. This study explores the impact of these new forms of contact between adoptive family members and birth family members, through the qualitative analysis of clinical protocols of five adoptive families that sought counseling in a clinical setting devoted to international adoption. The interpretative phenomenological analysis revealed three themes.

School refusal is an important public health concern in adolescent psychiatry increasing over the past several years (5% of child and adolescent psychiatry consultations in France). Multifamily therapy has developed over 30 years. Its efficacy is validated in adult, child and adolescent psychiatry, including for children at risk of school exclusion.

The perfume workshop is one of the therapeutic groups offered to young patients in the day hospital of the "Maison des adolescents" in Paris (14th arrondissement). None of them having learned to smell, this workshop allows these young people to discover a new field of experiences. Thanks to this particular mediation mobilizing this unexplored fifth sense, they connect to their sensations, access their memories and communicate them, open their imagination and discover a new medium to express themselves, share and regain self-confidence.

For the last decade, children are adopted increasingly at an older age. Their pre-adoptive past can bare traumatic experiences consequent to abandonment, violence, or deprivation in birth family or orphanage. The objective of this study is to explore the impact of the child's traumatic past on parental representations and subsequent parent-child interactions.

Most children adopted in a foreign country present somatic disorders, which can have an impact on the construction of the bond with the adoptive parents. This potential complication must be taken into account in the adoption procedure and during the post-adoption follow-up, taking on board the trauma of everyone involved.

Background: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a serious psychiatric illness that begins most of the time during adolescence. An early and efficacious intervention is crucial to minimize the risk of the illness becoming chronic and to limit the occurrence of comorbidities. There is a global consensus on optimal treatment for adolescents suffering from AN: international guidelines recommend single-family therapy that involves the patient and his/her family.

American literature on international adoption suggests that adoptees' pride in the culture of their birth country improves their self-esteem and helps them to cope with experiences of racism. Parents are therefore encouraged to teach their adopted children multicultural skills to improve their psychological well-being. French psychologists, on the contrary, suggest that adoptees should feel fully members of their adoptive country and families.

Approximately 30 000 children are adopted across national borders each year. A review of the literature on the cultural belonging of these internationally adopted children shows substantial differences between the literature from English-speaking countries and that from France and Europe in general. The objective of this study is to start from the discourse of French adoptive parents to explore their representations of their child's cultural belonging and their positions (their thoughts and representations) concerning connections with the child's country of birth and its culture.

In the context of international adoption, the question is raised of the links which the adoptive parents may or may not maintain with the culture of the child's birth country. The name which the adoptive parents choose reflects this questioning. A study was carried out into this subject with parents and children in order to gain a better understanding of the feelings of belonging, filiation and affiliation in these situations.

International adoptions involve approximately 30,000 children worldwide each year. Nearly all of the adoptive parents travel to the child's country of birth to meet them and bring them home. The objective of this study is to analyze the adoptive parents' account of their first meetings with their child.

Purpose: The influence of posture on breathing effort in patients with difficult weaning is unknown. We hypothesized that posture could modulate the breathing effort in difficult-to-wean patients.

Methods: A prospective, crossover, physiologic study was performed in 24 intubated patients breathing with pressure support who had already failed a spontaneous breathing trial or an extubation episode.

Although the large majority of international adoptions are problem free, some of them involve a certain degree of suffering as much for the children as for the adoptive parents. These stumbling blocks in the relationship need to be studied taking into account the trauma experienced by each of the protagonists.

Objective: The aim of the study was to determine whether Nasal Provocation Tests (NPT) could help in the diagnosis of occupational rhinitis (OR).

Methods: Changes in nasal airway resistance (NAR), measured by posterior rhinomanometry during specific nasal challenge associated with per and post test clinical scores, were compared to a prior probability, based on the patient's history, determined by occupational physicians, in 41 hairdressers and 33 bakers referred for suspected OR.

Results: A DeltaNAR >or= 150% defined the positivity of the NPT.

Introduction: International adoption involves more than 40 000 children a year. The objective of this review is to estimate the effects of international adoption on externalizing behaviour problems during adolescence. In this paper we examine the prevalence of externalizing problem behaviours in samples of adolescents who were adopted from a foreign country as infants or young children, compare to non-adopted adolescents.

In vivo, transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta1 and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) present at the site of airway injury are thought to contribute to epithelial wound repair. As TGF-beta1 can modulate MMP expression and MMPs play an important role in wound repair, we hypothesized that TGF-beta1 may enhance airway epithelial repair via MMPs secreted by epithelial cells. We evaluated the in vitro influence of TGF-beta1 on wound repair in human airway epithelial cells cultured under conditions allowing differentiation.

Nasal nitric oxide (NO) concentration is dramatically reduced in primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD). The aims of this study were to apply a multiple-flow NO analysis to investigate whether NO output from the bronchial tree was affected in a similar way to nasal NO output, and to search for a relationship between flow-independent exchange parameters and airflow limitation. Multiple flow rate analysis of exhaled NO, allowing the calculation of maximum airway wall flux and alveolar NO concentration, was performed in 17 PCD patients (median age, 25-75th percentiles: 13.

Study Objectives: To assess whether the dual anatomic origin of exhaled nitric oxide (NO), namely alveolar and bronchial, could explain the link between exhaled NO and airway responsiveness, and could participate in the bronchodilatory effect of deep inspiration (DI) that may be evidenced during methacholine challenge.

Design And Setting: Prospective study in a laboratory performing pulmonary function tests of an academic hospital.

Patients And Interventions: Patients underwent multiple flow analysis of exhaled NO, allowing calculation of total maximum airway NO flux (J'awno) and NO concentration of expansible compartment (CAno), and received a cumulative methacholine dose of 2,000 microg.
