Patients with primary brain tumors navigate a distinct illness trajectory, characterized by an uncertain prognosis, a rapid decline in physical functioning, and a significant deterioration in the quality of life. These unique challenges underscore the importance of our research in understanding and addressing the needs of these patients. The EORTC QLQ C30 & EORTC BN 20 questionnaires assessed the quality of life and symptom burden in patients with primary brain tumors.

Introduction: Prostate cancer is one of the most prevalent malignancies affecting men globally, with a significant impact on health-related quality of life (HRQOL). With the recent therapeutic advancements and improvements in survival, there is a need to understand the determinants of HRQOL in metastatic prostate cancer patients to optimize treatment strategies for quality of life as the number of survivors increases. The aim of this study was to identify clinical variables that affect HRQOL and its domains in patients with metastatic prostate cancer.

Purpose: For patients with metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC), delaying progression to castration-resistant disease is important not only for overall survival (OS) but also for patients' quality of life. Darolutamide plus androgen-deprivation therapy (ADT) with docetaxel improved OS versus ADT and docetaxel in patients with mHSPC. The ARANOTE trial evaluated darolutamide and ADT without chemotherapy in patients with mHSPC.

Purpose: Patients with Germ cell tumours (GCT) are at risk of long-term toxicities due to multimodality therapy. It is debatable whether there is an impact on the quality of life(QoL) of GCT survivors.

Methods: A case-control study was conducted at a tertiary care centre in India, using the EORTC QLQ C30 questionnaire, to compare the QoL between GCT survivors(disease free > 2 years) and healthy matched controls.

Background: Carcinoma penis is a rare neoplasm, and the literature is scarce on long-term survival and its predictors. The aim of the study was to determine the clinical profile and management patterns, identify predictors of survival, and the impact of education and rural/urban dwelling on survival.

Methods: Patients with a histological diagnosis of carcinoma penis from January 2015 to December 2019 were included in the study.

Background: Primary mediastinal GCT (PMGCT) is a rare entity and comprises 10-15% of all mediastinal tumors. We present our institutional experience of MGCT treated with multimodality management.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis between 2010 to 2020 of all mediastinal germ cell tumors registered at our center.

Early detection of metastatic breast cancer (MBC) is a serious issue for the healthcare system. It is essential to develop potential non-invasive, low-cost molecular biomarkers. The present study explored specific serum proteins of inflammatory, MAPK, and cytoskeletal signaling pathways involved in the progression of MBC to establish a panel of blood-based diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers.

Rosette forming glioneural tumors (RGNT) are a rare type of low-grade brain tumor included in 2007 in WHO classification. Given the benign nature of the disease, a complete surgical excision has been considered optimum. However, a handful of cases have reported the locally aggressive nature of RGNT.

Objective: There are contradictory data on differential effect of docetaxel based on BMI in patients with breast and prostate cancer. We performed an exploratory analysis to determine if the benefit of docetaxel in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) is modified by BMI.

Methods: We performed a post hoc analysis of the data retrieved from the ENTHUSE M1C study.

Purpose: We planned this prospective study to evaluate PSMA expression in recurrent high-grade gliomas (rHGG), including anaplastic astrocytoma and glioblastoma using Glu-NH-CO-NH-Lys-(Ahx)-[Ga-68 (HBED-CC)]- (Ga-68 PSMA) positron emission tomography (PET), with its theranostic potential in mind.

Methods: This was a prospective study enrolling patients with clinical and MRI evidence of rHGG on follow-up. Three treated cases of HGG with RN on MRI were also included as negative controls.

Aim: Glioblastoma (GBM) is one of the most aggressive neoplasms of the central nervous system with dismal survival. In recent years, different variants of GBM have been described in the literature. GBM with areas of neuroectodermal differentiation (GBM-PNET) is a relatively new entity in GBM.

Article Synopsis
  • The COVID-19 pandemic, which began in Wuhan, China in December 2019, has resulted in significant mortality and morbidity globally, affecting over 200 countries.
  • Severe COVID-19 cases often trigger a harmful immune reaction called a cytokine storm, leading to serious complications like ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome).
  • Low-dose radiotherapy (LDRT) may help mitigate cytokine release syndrome by improving immune responses and has previously shown success in treating viral pneumonia, making it a potential option given the current lack of effective treatments for severe COVID-19 cases.

Pineal region tumors are rare and a heterogenous group of primary central nervous system tumors which are primarily classified as germ cell tumors and non-germ cell tumors. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy as the primary treatment modalities have been reported to result in good outcomes. We discuss the case of a young girl who presented to our emergency department in an unconscious state and had a large lesion in the posterior third ventricular region, but without any associated hydrocephalus which could explain her stuporous state.

Background: Prostate cancer is a common cancer found in men worldwide. Brachytherapy is an established modality used for the treatment of these patients. Although anesthetic management of such patients is challenging but the ideal anesthetic technique has not yet been established.

A 37-year-old man, treated case of left temporal glioblastoma presented with headache, seizures, and progressive right-sided weakness with MRI evidence of recurrence. Exploratory Ga-PSMA PET/CT demonstrated PSMA expression in the recurrent lesion; it was decided to treat this patient with Lu-PSMA-617. After 3 cycles of Lu-PSMA-617, Ga-PSMA PET/CT showed significant reduction in PSMA uptake and regression in size of lesion on MRI with improvement in patient's symptoms and performance status.

Article Synopsis
  • Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) is a common brain tumor, and this study investigates whether a quicker radiation treatment combined with temozolomide improves survival rates compared to standard treatment.
  • Conducted as a phase II trial, the study involved 35 patients split into two groups: one receiving conventional radiation over six weeks and the other receiving accelerated radiation over about two and a half weeks with concurrent temozolomide.
  • The results showed no significant difference in overall survival between the two groups, with the experimental group experiencing higher rates of severe side effects, leading researchers to conclude that standard radiation treatment should remain the primary approach.

Introduction: Cancer of the cervix is the second most common cancer in women in India. Chemoradiotherapy is the standard treatment for locally advanced carcinoma cervix. Chemotherapy is not given on days of brachytherapy due to the fear of increased toxicity though studies supporting or refuting it are limited.

Giant cell glioblastoma (GCG) is a rare subtype of classic glioblastoma multiforme with favorable prognosis and little is known about its metastatic potential. We hereby present a unique case of GCG in a 7-year-old child who developed spinal and spinal leptomeningeal metastasis during adjuvant therapy. She succumbed to it in spite of salvage therapy.

Background: Triple-negative breast cancers (TNBCs) are known for early age at presentation, large tumor sizes, and overall poor prognosis. However, Indian studies are scarce with limited follow-up data. Hence, the present study is aimed at characterizing nonmetastatic TNBC patients in our population and comparing their outcome with non-TNBC subset.

Endolymphatic sac tumor (ELST) is a rare papillary neoplasm with locally destructive behavior which can occur sporadically or in association with Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease. We herein present a case of ELST associated with VHL disease in a 14-year-old girl and discuss clinico-radiological, immunohistopathologic findings, and management by staged surgery and postoperative radiotherapy to the residual lesion.
