Introduction: There is growing awareness of the importance of patient centered care (PCC) in health care. Within Radiography in the UK, elements of PCC are embedded within professional body publications and guidance documents. However, there is limited research evidence exploring whether perceptions of PCC are equivalent between those delivering (radiographers) and those experiencing (patient) care.

Defining the repertoire of peptides presented by the major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC I) is a key step toward the identification of relevant antigens for cancer immunotherapy. However, the identification of cancer-specific antigens is a significant analytical challenge in view of their low abundance and low mutational load found in most primary cancer specimens. Here, we describe the application of isobaric peptide labeling with tandem mass tag (TMT) to improve the detection of the MHC I peptides.

Introduction: Estimation of residual apixaban plasma concentrations may be requested in the management of emergencies. This study aims at assessing the performance of specific anti-Xa assays calibrated with apixaban on real-life samples with low apixaban plasma concentrations (<30 ng/mL) and on-treatment ranges, with and without interference of low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH).

Methods: The performance of the STA -Liquid Anti-Xa assay (STA LAX) and the low and normal procedures of the Biophen Direct Factor Xa Inhibitors (DiXaI) assay was tested on 134 blood samples, collected from patients on apixaban, wherefrom 74 patients received LMWH after apixaban cessation.

Metallosupramolecular chemistry has attracted the interest of generations of researches due to the versatile properties and functionalities of oligonuclear coordination complexes. Quite a number of different discrete cages were investigated, mostly consisting of only one type of ligand and one type of metal cation. Looking for ever more complex structures, heterobimetallic complexes became more and more attractive, as they give access to new structural motifs and functions.

Global insights into cellular organization and genome function require comprehensive understanding of the interactome networks that mediate genotype-phenotype relationships. Here we present a human 'all-by-all' reference interactome map of human binary protein interactions, or 'HuRI'. With approximately 53,000 protein-protein interactions, HuRI has approximately four times as many such interactions as there are high-quality curated interactions from small-scale studies.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how adeno-associated virus (AAV) enters cells and reaches the nucleus, which is crucial for its use in gene therapy.
  • Researchers conducted genome-wide screens in U-2 OS cells with AAV2 to identify genes that affect AAV transduction efficiency.
  • They identified specific genes that either enhance or inhibit AAV transduction, with one gene, GPR108, playing a key role in the viral trafficking process and showing selectivity for certain AAV serotypes.

Lymphatic filariasis has remained endemic in Fiji despite repeated mass drug administration using the well-established and safe combination of diethylcarbamazine and albendazole (DA) since 2002. In certain settings the addition of ivermectin to this combination (IDA) remains a safe strategy and is more efficacious. However, the safety has yet to be described in scabies and soil-transmitted helminth endemic settings like Fiji.

Direct repair of deep deltoid ruptures after traumatic ankle fracture is not commonly performed. Previous studies overlook the contributions of the medial deltoid to overall ankle stability and long-term patient satisfaction. Historically, deep deltoid injuries have been addressed indirectly through syndesmotic ligament repair.

Nonunion rate of first metatarsophalangeal joint (MTP) joint arthrodesis is reportedly less than 6%, regardless of fixation type. Robust modern plating constructs aim to decrease incidence of nonunion while also allowing early postoperative weight-bearing. Quicker transition to weight-bearing postoperatively increases patient adherence, decreases adjacent joint stiffness, and reduces risk of deep vein thrombosis in the postoperative period.

Background: Olfactory receptor (OR) genes are the largest multi-gene family in the mammalian genome, with 874 in human and 1483 loci in mouse (including pseudogenes). The expansion of the OR gene repertoire has occurred through numerous duplication events followed by diversification, resulting in a large number of highly similar paralogous genes. These characteristics have made the annotation of the complete OR gene repertoire a complex task.

Polysialylation is the enzymatic addition of a highly negatively charged sialic acid polymer to the non-reducing termini of glycans. Polysialylation plays an important role in development, and is involved in neurological diseases, neural tissue regeneration, and cancer. Polysialic acid (PSA) is also a biodegradable and non-immunogenic conjugate to therapeutic drugs to improve their pharmacokinetics.

Objective: Persistent cognitive, somatic, and neuropsychiatric symptoms following mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) are influenced by posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), particularly in military patients. The authors evaluated the degree to which military service members with a history of mild TBI attributed posttraumatic symptoms to TBI versus PTSD.

Methods: Service members (N=372) with mild TBI were surveyed about the severity of posttraumatic symptoms across four symptom clusters (cognitive, affective, somatosensory, and vestibular) with the Neurobehavioral Symptom Inventory (NSI).

P2Y inhibitor discontinuation is essential before most surgical interventions to limit bleeding complications. Based on pharmacokinetic data, fixed discontinuation durations have been recommended. However, as platelet function recovery is highly variable among patients, a more individualized approach based on platelet function testing (PFT) has been proposed.

Objectives: Understanding the T cell receptor (TCR) repertoire of regulatory CD4 T-cell (Treg) populations is important for strategies aiming to re-establish tolerance in autoimmune diseases. We studied circulating deamidated gluten-epitope-specific CD39 Tregs in patients with coeliac disease following an oral gluten challenge, and we used cytomegalovirus (CMV)-specific CD39 Tregs from healthy controls as a comparator population.

Methods: We used the OX40 assay to isolate antigen-specific Tregs by induced surface co-expression of CD25, OX40 and CD39.

Intensive fundamental and clinical research in cancer immunotherapy has led to the emergence and evolution of two parallel universes with surprisingly little interactions: the realm of hematologic malignancies and that of solid tumors. Treatment of hematologic cancers using allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (AHCT) serendipitously led to the discovery that T cells specific for minor histocompatibility antigens (MiHAs) could cure hematopoietic cancers. Besides, studies based on treatment of solid tumor with -expanded tumor infiltrating lymphocytes or immune checkpoint therapy demonstrated that anti-tumor responses could be achieved by targeting tumor-specific antigens (TSAs).
