Aims: DNA methylation profiling, recently endorsed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a pivotal diagnostic tool for brain tumours, most commonly relies on bead arrays. Despite its widespread use, limited data exist on the technical reproducibility and potential cross-institutional differences. The LOGGIC Core BioClinical Data Bank registry conducted a prospective laboratory comparison trial with 12 international laboratories to enhance diagnostic accuracy for paediatric low-grade gliomas, focusing on technical aspects of DNA methylation data generation and profile interpretation under clinical real-time conditions.

Understanding the gap between students' aspirations for postsecondary education and their actual postsecondary attainment is key to understanding and reducing educational and vocational inequities. Just as work volition has emerged as a key factor in understanding access to decent work, students' sense of control over or volition in the college-going process may be a key factor in understanding their access to postsecondary education. In the current study, we adapted a common measure of work volition to create a measure of college-going volition (CGV).

Post-secondary students benefit from mentorships, which provide both emotional and academic support tailored to the unique challenges they face. STEM students, and, in particular, those with historically marginalized identities, have unique strengths and face distinct barriers that can be ameliorated by careful, knowledgeable, and well-situated mentoring relationships. With that in mind, we conducted a narrative case study with 10 rural-Appalachian STEM majors enrolled in an NSF-funded mentoring program, intending to collect stories of their impactful experiences with their mentors.

Passive acoustic and Argos satellite telemetry are common methods for tracking marine species and are often used similarly to quantify space use. However, data-driven comparisons of these methods and their associated ecological inferences are limited. To address this, we compared temporal durations, spatial resolutions, financial costs and estimates of occurrence and range distributions for each tracking approach using nine juvenile green turtles () in Bimini, Bahamas.

Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the feasibility of monitoring and diagnosing compromised walking motion in the frontal plane, particularly in persons living with the chronic effects of stroke (PwCS). The study aimed to determine whether active control of walking in the frontal plane could be monitored and provide diagnostic insights into compensations made by PwCS during community living.

Methods: The study recruited PwCS with noticeable walking asymmetries and employed a monitoring method to assess frontal plane motion.

We examined whether conflicting visual and non-visual information leads to gait abnormalities and how the subthalamic deep brain stimulation (STN DBS) influences gait dysfunction in Parkinson's disease (PD). We used a motion capture system to measure the kinematics of the lower limbs during treadmill walking in immersive virtual reality. The visual information provided in the virtual reality paradigm was modulated to create a mismatch between the optic-flow velocity of the visual scene and the walking speed on the treadmill.

Background: The international, multicenter registry LOGGIC Core BioClinical Data Bank aims to enhance the understanding of tumor biology in pediatric low-grade glioma (pLGG) and provide clinical and molecular data to support treatment decisions and interventional trial participation. Hence, the question arises whether implementation of RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) using fresh frozen (FrFr) tumor tissue in addition to gene panel and DNA methylation analysis improves diagnostic accuracy and provides additional clinical benefit.

Methods: Analysis of patients aged 0 to 21 years, enrolled in Germany between April 2019 and February 2021, and for whom FrFr tissue was available.

Few studies have evaluated the effects of pulmonary arterial hypertension therapies on pericardial effusion. We evaluated hemodynamics, echocardiograms, and outcomes for 119 parenteral prostanoid-treated patients. We discovered an increased frequency of pericardial effusions posttreatment, and that a moderate-large pericardial effusion at initiation, but not at 1st follow-up, was significantly associated with mortality.

Background: Chronic back pain (CBP) is a condition that places a considerable burden on society, with several million people affected in the United States alone. Treatment options to address this problem and relieve CBP are constantly evolving, and one of the most promising treatment modalities for CBP that is refractory to conservative treatment options is endoscopic rhizotomy (ER).

Methods: A thorough search of the PubMed (MEDLINE) database was conducted to assess the full progression of ER from its earliest uses to present day in a historical narrative review of ER, with treatment of facetogenic pain as a model pathology.

We describe a case of acute-onset worsening of a patient's previously well-controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) following his recovery from a novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. A 78-year-old male with a three-year medical history of well-controlled T2DM (controlled by diet and metformin) presented to the outpatient clinic to discuss his regularly scheduled six-month lab work. He mentioned having a mild coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection lasting one week which required no medical treatment approximately two months before his current visit.

Gait deficits are often persistent after stroke, and current rehabilitation methods do not restore normal gait for everyone. Targeted methods of focused gait therapy that meet the individual needs of each stroke survivor are needed. Our objective was to develop and test a combination protocol of simultaneous brain stimulation and focused stance phase training for people with chronic stroke (>6 months).

Vibration, a potent mechanical stimulus for activating muscle spindle primary afferents, may improve gait performance in persons with multiple sclerosis (MS), but has yet to be developed and deployed for multiple leg muscles with application during walking training. This study explored the development of a cyclic focal muscle vibration (FMV) system, and the deployment feasibility to correct MS walking swing phase deficits in order to determine whether this intervention warrants comprehensive study. The system was deployed during twelve, two-hour sessions of walking with cyclic FMV over six weeks.

Individuals with an above-knee (AK) amputation typically use passive prostheses, whether reactive (microprocessor) or purely mechanical. Though sufficient for walking, these solutions lack the positive power generation observed in able-bodied individuals. Active (powered) prostheses can provide positive power but suffer complex control and limited energy storage capacities.
