With the global population aging, awareness of oral health is rising. Periodontitis, a widespread bacterial infectious disease, is gaining attention. Current novel biomaterials address key clinical issues like bacterial infection, gum inflammation, tooth loosening, and loss, focusing on antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and tissue regeneration properties.

Periodontitis is characterized by dysbiotic biofilms, gingival inflammation, and bone resorption, highlighting the urgent need for a comprehensive approach to drug combination therapy. In this study, we introduce dynamic covalent nanonetworks (dcNNWs) synthesized through a one-pot, four-component reaction-induced self-assembly method using polyamines, 2-formylphenylboronic acid, epigallocatechin gallate, and alendronate. The formation of iminoboronate bonds drives the creation of dcNNWs, allowing controlled release in the periodontitis microenvironment.

As an innovative financial model in the era of the digital economy, digital finance, with its inclusive characteristics, provides effective financial support for the realization of the carbon peak and carbon neutrality. To realize the "double carbon" goal, it is necessary not only to control the total amount and intensity of carbon emissions but also to consider the coordination and fairness of carbon emission reduction between regions. The existing literature has discussed the carbon reduction effect of digital finance, but few studies have focused on the impact and mechanism of digital finance on regional carbon emission inequality.

The World Health Organization has warned that without effective action, deaths from drug-resistant bacteria can exceed 10 million annually, making it the leading cause of death. Conventional antibiotics are becoming less effective due to rapid bacterial drug resistance and slowed new antibiotic development, necessitating new strategies. Recently, materials with catalytic/enzymatic properties, known as nanozymes, have been developed, inspired by natural enzymes essential for bacterial eradication.

The development of digital finance provides new opportunities for improving energy efficiency and promoting green development. This paper calculates green total factor energy efficiency (GTFEE) using the super-efficiency SBM model and examines the impact of digital finance on GTFEE. Digital finance has a significant positive impact on GTFEE.

Oligoasthenoteratospermia (OAT), characterized by abnormally low sperm count, poor sperm motility, and abnormally high number of deformed spermatozoa, is an important cause of male infertility. Its genetic basis in many affected individuals remains unknown. Here, we found that CCDC157 variants are associated with OAT.

Mitigating carbon emissions from crop production is essential for addressing global warming. At a macro-level, existing studies have often relied on the calculation of carbon emission intensity of crop production to understand comparable carbon effects between regions. However, this approach obscures the differences in crop planting scale and natural attributes across regions, leaving room for improvement in the methods and scope of analysis.

Chondromyxoid fibroma (CMF) is a rarely documented benign osseous neoplasm, particularly with respect to its incidence in the lumbar spinal region. CMF predominantly manifests in vertebral bodies, exhibiting atypical emergence in ancillary anatomical sites. The present report describes, to the best of our knowledge, the second documented instance of CMF originating from the lumbar facet joint.

Background: Electromyography of the cricopharyngeal muscle (CP-EMG) is one of many assessment tools for dysphagia. The key to performing EMG and BTX injections is to precisely locate the cricopharyngeal muscle with an electrode. One of the main difficulties of electrode insertion is the fact that the CP muscle is located deep within the neck.

Background: Prenatal maternal psychological distress (PMPD) is a known risk factor for adverse birth outcomes. N6-methyladenosine RNA (m6A) methylation is crucial in moderating RNA biology. This study aimed to evaluate the relationships between PMPD, birth outcomes, and placental m6A methylation.

Prenatal stress (PS) causes anxiety in mothers and their offspring and chewing is a commonly observed behavior during maternal stress. Prolactin (PRL) is an anti-anxiety factor that suppresses the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Here, we studied the roles of PRL, corticosterone (CORT), and their receptors in PS-induced anxiety-like behavior in dams and their offspring.

N-6-Methyladenosine (mA) modification is involved in multiple biological processes including aging. However, the regulation of mA methyltransferase-like 14 (METTL14) in aging remains unclear. Here, we revealed that the level of mA modification and the expression of METTL14 were particularly decreased in the intestine of aged mice as compared to young mice.

Heteroatom doping has proved to be one of the most effective approaches to further improve the photocatalytic activities of semiconducting oxides originating from the modulation of their electronic structures. Herein, nitrogen-doped SnO nanorods were synthesized facile solvothermal processes using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as a dispersing agent and ammonium water as the N source, respectively. Compared with pure SnO sample, the as-synthesized nitrogen-doped SnO nanorods demonstrated enhanced photocatalytic performances, evaluated by the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB), revealing the effectiveness of nitrogen doping towards photocatalysis.

Background: Maternal prenatal depression is a significant public health issue associated with mental disorders of offspring. This study aimed to determine if maternal prenatal depressive symptoms are associated with changes in neonatal behaviors and brain function at the resting state.

Methods: A total of 204 pregnant women were recruited during the third trimester and were evaluated by Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS).

The object of this study is to investigate dysphagia caused by reduced laryngeal elevation in patients poststroke. The central mechanism of laryngeal elevation during swallowing was explored by comparing the brain activation area before and after treatment with that of healthy subjects. The treatment group included patients diagnosed with dysphagia poststroke that showed reduced laryngeal elevation.

Background: Phosphatase of Regenerating Liver-1 (PRL-1) is the only homolog of the mammalian PRLs with which it shares high sequence and structural similarities. Whilst PRLs are most notable for their high expression in malignant cancers and related promotion of cancer progression, the specific biological functions of the PRLs remain largely elusive.

Methods: Here, using a gain-of-function approach, we found that PRL-1 functions during wing vein development in ().

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on low-carbon cropland use (PCLU) in China, assessing its efficiency and carbon sequestration/emission from 2000 to 2019, highlighting that cropland serves as a net carbon sink.* -
  • The average PCLU across provinces was 0.727, with a wide range of values, indicating significant disparities; northeastern areas showed stable PCLU, while other regions had fluctuations and shifts in top-performing provinces.* -
  • Key factors influencing PCLU include agricultural structure and urbanization promoting it, while disasters and inter-provincial effects can hinder its effectiveness, suggesting that local emissions strategies should consider regional carbon structures.*

This study attempts to assess the relationship between risk perception, risk knowledge, and travel intentions of Chinese leisure travelers during the COVID-19 pandemic in the framework of social contagion and risk communication theories by analyzing a sample of 1,209 travelers through structural equation modeling (SEM) and path analysis. We used the process macro of Hayes to analyze the moderation effects of age, gender, and education between risk perception, media and interpersonal communication, and risk knowledge. It was found that travelers were more concerned about self-efficacy than severity.

Aim: Chemoresistance to 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) is common in colorectal cancer (CRC). Programmed necrosis (necroptosis) is an alternative form of programmed cell death regulated by receptor-interacting protein kinase (RIPK) 1 and 3, assumed as a novel target of cancer therapy. In this study, we aimed to explore whether a novel small molecular agent GDC-0326 could facilitate the effect of 5-Fu through necroptosis.
