Recent increases in nitrogen dioxide (NO) and ozone (O), two highly reactive and oxidative pollutants, have raised concerns about their potential impact on adolescent mental health. This study leveraged data from the Chinese National Survey on Students' Constitution and Health (CNSSCH) in 2019, a nationally representative cross-sectional survey of Chinese adolescents. A total of 149,697 adolescents aged 10-18 years were included in this study.

Article Synopsis
  • * Traditional ultrasound thermometry struggles with high temperatures (over 50 °C) due to reliance on backscattered signals, prompting the exploration of AI for improved monitoring.
  • * An AI-driven method called Breath-guided Multimodal Teacher-Student (BMTS) has been developed, achieving accurate temperature reconstruction with errors of just 0.8 °C and a measurement speed of 0.37 seconds, extending the maximum detectable temperature to 67 °C, enhancing future HIFU therapy planning.

An organoid culture system better recapitulates the cellular structure, function, and interaction between cells and the extracellular matrix (ECM) than a two-dimensional (2D) culture system. We here constructed a condylar cartilage organoid to explore the regulatory role of primary cilia. Similar to the natural condylar cartilage, the condylar cartilage organoid exhibited abundant ECM and comprised superficial, proliferative, and hypertrophic zones.

Article Synopsis
  • The study addresses the growing issue of metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) in children, particularly those in obesity-heavy regions, highlighting the challenge of identifying at-risk individuals due to a lack of clear symptoms.
  • Researchers conducted a school-based survey in Beijing to create predictive models for MASLD and validated these models in Ningbo, comparing various statistical methods to determine the most effective approach for screening.
  • The logistic regression model identified the waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) as the best non-invasive predictor for MASLD, and the combination of WHtR with lipid accumulation product (LAP) enhanced prediction accuracy.

Background: Causal mediation analysis plays a crucial role in examining causal effects and causal mechanisms. Yet, limited work has taken into consideration the use of sampling weights in causal mediation analysis. In this study, we compared different strategies of incorporating sampling weights into causal mediation analysis.

Compressed ultrafast photography (CUP) is a computational imaging technology capable of capturing transient scenes in picosecond scale with a sequence depth of hundreds of frames. Since the inverse problem of CUP is an ill-posed problem, it is challenging to further improve the reconstruction quality under the condition of high noise level and compression ratio. In addition, there are many articles adding an external charge-coupled device (CCD) camera to the CUP system to form the time-unsheared view because the added constraint can improve the reconstruction quality of images.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is characterized by significant heterogeneity, leading to poor survival outcomes for patients, despite the implementation of comprehensive treatment strategies. The roles of cyclin A2 (CCNA2) and NIMA related kinase 2 (NEK2) have been extensively studied in numerous cancers, but their specific functions in GBM remain to be elucidated. The present study aimed to investigate the potential molecular mechanisms of CCNA2 and NEK2 in GBM.

This paper present a novel, integrated compressed ultrafast photography system for comprehensive measurement of the aluminium planar wire array Z-Pinch evolution process. The system incorporates a large array streak camera and embedded encoding to improve the signal-to-noise ratio. Based on the "QiangGuang-I" pulsed power facility, we recorded the complete continuous 2D implosion process of planar wire array Z-Pinch for the first time.

In order to produce fermented bamboo shoots with functional properties, two strains of lactic acid bacteria were selected for inoculation and fermentation. One strain, R1, exhibited prominent potential probiotic properties (including gastrointestinal condition tolerance, adhesion ability, antimicrobial ability, and antibiotic resistance), while the other, R2, demonstrated the capability of high γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) production (913.99 ± 14.

An improved phase generated carrier arctangent demodulation algorithm based on harmonic mixing and phase quadrature technology (PGC-Arctan-HP) is proposed in this paper, which can eliminate the effects of modulation depth shift, carrier phase delay, and light intensity disturbance (LID) on the demodulation results. The simulation results are consistent with theoretical analysis, and indicate that the PGC-Arctan-HP algorithm can achieve optimal demodulation compared with other demodulation algorithms. The results of interferometric experiments show that the demodulated waveforms of the improved algorithm are relatively stable with an amplitude error of 0.

Neonates strive to acquire energy when the continuous transplacental nutrient supply ceases at birth, whereas milk consumption takes hours to start. Using murine models, we report the metabolic switches in the first days of life, with an unexpected discovery of glucose as the universal fuel essential for neonatal life. Blood glucose quickly drops as soon as birth, but immediately rebounds even before suckling and maintains stable afterward.

Background: Studies have shown that Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) metabolism can promote the occurrence and development of glioma. However, the specific effects and mechanisms of NAD+ metabolism in glioma are unclear and there were no systematic researches about NAD+ metabolism related genes to predict the survival of patients with glioma.

Methods: The research was performed based on expression data of glioma cases in the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas (CGGA) databases.

Comprehensive identification of possible target cells for viruses is crucial for understanding the pathological mechanism of virosis. The susceptibility of cells to viruses depends on many factors. Besides the existence of receptors at the cell surface, effective expression of viral genes is also pivotal for viral infection.

Background: Maintenance treatment following efficient chemotherapy can improve the treatment outcomes of patients with metastatic breast cancer (MBC). However, there are no studies for identifying the prognostic factors for patients who could benefit from capecitabine maintenance. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the prognosis and risk factors of capecitabine maintenance therapy and analysed the circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) markers that may be related to the treatment response.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is one of the most lethal types of primary brain tumors in adults with a median survival of less than 15 months. Although comprehensive clinical treatment strategies including surgical resection followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy are widely applied, the prognosis for GBM patients remains dismal. The Nuclear Factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway is a complex network linking extracellular stimuli to cell survival and proliferation, and aberrant activation of NF-κB signaling has been implicated in the propagation of a wide range of cancers.
