  • The study aimed to explore how non-drug treatments affect sarcopenic obesity (SO) through a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
  • Results indicated that exercise and nutrition can improve various physical health metrics, such as body fat percentage (PBF) and grip strength, but individual interventions showed limited effectiveness.
  • The combination of exercise and nutritional interventions proved to be the most effective approach for improving outcomes related to SO, highlighting the potential role of physical therapy as well.

Background: Adopting health-promoting lifestyle (HPL) is crucial for improving overall well-being and reducing the risk of chronic diseases. The relationship between health literacy (HL) and HPL among Chinese community residents is complex, with potential mediating factors yet to be fully understood. Family health and physical activity (PA) may play significant roles in this relationship.

Delivering nanoparticles to deep tumor tissues while maintaining high therapeutic efficacy and minimizing damage to surrounding tissues has long posed a significant challenge. To address this, we have developed innovative self-propelling bowl-shaped nanomotors MSLA@GOx-PDA composed of mesoporous silica loaded with l-arginine and polydopamine, along with glucose oxidase (GOx). These nanomotors facilitate the generation of hydrogen peroxide through GOx-catalyzed glucose oxidation, thereby initiating nitric oxide production from l-arginine.

The exploitation of simply processed p-type semiconductors and photodetectors with promising optoelectrical properties remains challenging yet essential for current and future advanced optoelectronic applications. Transparent p-type CuI and Sn-doped CuI (Cu-Sn-I) films and their self-powered photodetectors have been successfully fabricated by the spraying method. It is found that the incorporation of Sn dopants enhances the optical, electrical, and photoelectric properties of CuI thin films as well as their corresponding self-powered heterojunction photodetectors.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how smartphone dependence affects sleep quality among college students, considering the roles of negative emotions and health-promoting behaviors as mediators.
  • - A survey of over 21,000 valid questionnaires found that higher smartphone dependence is linked to poorer sleep quality and increased negative emotions, while it negatively impacts health-promoting behaviors.
  • - Results indicate that smartphone dependence directly improves sleep quality but also affects it indirectly through negative emotions and health behaviors, with demographic factors like gender influencing these relationships.

Introduction: The potential positive impact of computer game playing on cognitive function and its potential role in reducing the risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been suggested. However, current observational studies have certain limitations. We utilized Mendelian randomization (MR) alongside extensive genome-wide association study (GWAS) data to examine the relationship between computer game playing, cognitive function, risk of AD, and levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF).

Article Synopsis
  • * They found that people who perceived their greenspace positively were more active and had lower levels of kinesiophobia, while actual greenspace (measured with NDVI) was linked only to moderate and vigorous activities.
  • * Kinesiophobia was found to have a small but notable mediating effect on the link between perceived greenspace and different forms of physical activity, suggesting greenspace may encourage more movement among this population.

The lateral hypothalamic nucleus (LHy) is located in the dorsolateral hypothalamus of birds, and it is essential to many life processes. However, limited information is available about the role of LHy in mediating locomotive behaviors. In this work, we investigated the structure and function of LHy in pigeons (Columba livia) by Nissl staining, immunohistochemical (IHC) staining, insituhybridization (ISH) staining and constant current stimulation methods.

The measurement of pig weight holds significant importance for producers as it plays a crucial role in managing pig growth, health, and marketing, thereby facilitating informed decisions regarding scientific feeding practices. On one hand, the conventional manual weighing approach is characterized by inefficiency and time consumption. On the other hand, it has the potential to induce heightened stress levels in pigs.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a type of malignant tumor that seriously threatens human health and life, and its treatment has always been a difficulty and hotspot in research. Herein, this study for the first time reports that antipsychotic aripiprazole (Ari) against the proliferation of CRC cells both and , but with less damage in normal colon cells. Mechanistically, the results showed that 5-hydroxytryptamine 2B receptor (HTR2B) and its coupling protein G protein subunit alpha q (Gq) were highly distributed in CRC cells.

Nature exposure is known to promote physical and mental health. However, actual nature exposure may be difficult to achieve for the population of people with physical disabilities or chronic conditions. Therefore, many attempts have been made to duplicate nature exposure media devices, and virtual reality (VR) is deemed as a promising technology due to its advantage in creating a sense of immersion.

The prevalence of fear of movement (kinesiophobia) in persistent pain ranges from 50 to 70%, and it may hinder the subsequent rehabilitation interventions. Therefore, the evaluation of fear of movement/(re)injury plays a crucial role in making clinical treatment decisions conducive to the promotion of rehabilitation and prognosis. In the decision-making process of pain treatment, the assessment of fear of movement/(re)injury is mainly completed by scale/questionnaire.
