Metabolic reprogramming plays a critical role in in tumorigenesis and progression, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The Solute Carriers (SLCs) family is responsible for the transport of a range of nutrients and has been linked to various cancers. Cancer stem cells (CSC) are a contributing factor to the recurrence and metastasis of HCC.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates membrane proteins involved in liver cancer (HCC) and identifies TMX2 as a key factor that promotes HCC cell growth and tumor development.
  • TMX2 is found to be upregulated in HCC tissues, correlating with poor patient prognosis and acts as an independent prognostic marker.
  • Mechanistically, TMX2 enhances cell survival by promoting autophagy and mitophagy, as well as responding to oxidative stress, suggesting it could be a potential therapeutic target for HCC treatment.

Dysregulated lipolysis is a risk factor contributing to metabolic diseases and autophagy is known to be important in lipolysis. CTCF is involved in diverse cellular processes including adipogenesis, yet its role in lipolysis or autophagy remains unknown. We identified lipolytic genes were downregulated in CTCF knockdown adipocytes based on the RNA-seq data.
