Speciation is a continuous process driven by barriers to gene flow. Based on genome-wide SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) of 190 toads from 31 sampling sites of Scutiger boulengeri complex, we found evidence for monophyly which represented a continuous speciation process of at least six lineages in S. boulengeri, which radiated and exhibited varying degrees of divergence and gene flow.

The introduction of alien species poses a serious threat to native biodiversity, and mountain lake systems in the southwest of China are particularly vulnerable to the introduction of non-native fish. The prey naivety hypothesis states that native species may not be able to recognize novel introduced species due to a lack of common evolutionary background and therefore become easy targets, so the impacts of non-native fish on mountain endemic amphibians need to be urgently assessed. In an ex-situ experiment, we exposed the tadpoles of the Chaochiao Brown Frog (), endemic to western China, to kairomones of both native and translocated fish species, and their phenotypic and genetic response patterns were compared.

Drug carriers have been commonly used for drug control release, enhancing drug efficacy and/or minimizing side-effects. However, it is still difficult to get a high loading efficiency when encapsulating super hydrophilic drugs with a narrow therapeutic index, such as many neurotoxins. Increasing the carrier proportion can improve drug loading to a certain degree, while the burst released drug when the formulation enters the body may cause overdose side-effects.
