Cholestasis, a condition marked by bile acid accumulation in the liver and body systems, leads to liver dysfunction and cirrhosis. Currently, ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) and obeticholic acid (OCA) are the only two FDA-approved drugs for Cholestasis. Thus, new therapeutic approaches need to be developed.

Unlabelled: Bone metastasis from breast cancer significantly elevates patient morbidity and mortality, making early detection crucial for improving outcomes. This study utilizes radiomics to analyze changes in the thoracic vertebral bone marrow microenvironment from chest computerized tomography (CT) images prior to bone metastasis in breast cancer, and constructs a model to predict metastasis.

Methods: This study retrospectively gathered data from breast cancer patients who were diagnosed and continuously monitored for five years from January 2013 to September 2023.

Due to the lack of specific symptoms, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is often detected in advanced stages. However, pharmacological systemic therapy, a common clinical treatment for advanced HCC, is prone to serious toxic side effects. To address these issues, we designed a pH-sensitive sorafenib and schisandrin B micelle modified by methotrexate (MTX-SOR/SchB micelles), a nanosystem that combines the advantages of targeted delivery and pH sensitivity, and is capable of improving drug bioavailability and mitigating drug toxic side effects.

Article Synopsis
  • Myelin damage is a key issue in CNS diseases, impacting neurological function and prognosis, yet treatments mainly focus on gray matter rather than myelin repair.
  • Recent advances in natural products and herbal medicine show promise for myelin repair, highlighting their effectiveness and lower toxicity compared to traditional treatments.
  • This review explores the mechanisms of myelin formation and repair, as well as the role of glial cells, while summarizing herbal and natural remedies that aid in remyelination and discussing their potential as therapeutic options.

Background: Bronchial artery embolization (BAE) is a common and important way to manage hemoptysis. This study's purpose was to summarize the efficacy, safety, and related factors of BAE in the treatment of hemoptysis.

Methods: From January 2010 to August 2023, a systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases.

Article Synopsis
  • Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is a highly aggressive and lethal cancer with no effective treatments, and the role of the RON tyrosine kinase receptor in ATC remains unclear.
  • The study found that RON is highly expressed in thyroid cancer cells and its interference can inhibit glycolysis, promote ferroptosis, and increase sensitivity to chemotherapy, impacting mitochondrial function.
  • The research suggested that RON influences these processes through the MAPK/CREB signaling pathway, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target for treating thyroid cancer.

Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is generally recognized as a slow-growing tumor. However, a small subset of patients may still experience relapse or metastasis shortly after therapy, leading to a poor prognosis and raising concerns about excessive medical treatment. One major challenge lies in the inadequacy of effective biomarkers for accurate risk stratification.

This study was designed to explore the influence of myelin protein zero-like protein 1 (MPZL1) on the stem-like properties of cancer cells and the underlying mechanism in lung adenocarcinoma. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was utilized to evaluate mRNA expression level. CCK8, wound healing, and transwell assays were applied to assess cell proliferation, migration, and invasion.

The Persulfate-based advanced oxidation process is the most efficient and commonly used technology to remove organic contaminants in wastewater. Due to the large surface area, unique electronic properties, abundant N functional groups, cost-effectiveness, and environmental friendliness, N-doped biochars (NBCs) are widely used as catalysts for persulfate activation. This review focuses on the NBC for oxidative degradation of organics-contaminated wastewater.

High entropy oxides are promising catalysts for numerous catalytic oxidation processes with oxygen as the oxidant. However, most of them often show bulk morphologies, which hinders the full exposure of active sites. In this work, a unique 26-faceted polyhedral high entropy oxide MnNiCuZnCoO-1000 (P-HEO) with highly active site exposure is fabricated via a mechanochemistry-assisted strategy.

Muscle fibres are broadly categorised into types I and II; the fibre-type ratio determines the contractile and metabolic properties of skeletal muscle tissue. The maintenance of type I fibres is essential for the prevention of obesity and the treatment of muscle atrophy caused by type 2 diabetes or unloading. Some reports suggest that myokines are related to muscle fibre type determination.

The strict tolerance space of three-dimensional (3D) crystalline structures is still a significant challenge in the area of switching dielectrics in comparison with lower-dimensional structures. Generally, the function of crystalline materials can be given or adjusted by controlling the environment in which synthesis takes place or the packing rearrangement. Using this method, special functional enhancements or changes in the dielectrics can be realized by improving the synthetic strategies.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), dispersed in absolute ethanol, were evenly mixed into Ti/MgH powders by wet milling. Then, we applied the vacuum hot-pressed sinteringmethod to the CNTs/TiMg composite materials. An optical microscope (OM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and a field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) were used for the microstructure observation and phase analysis of samples.
