Two novel conjugated polymers (polymer 1 and polymer 2) containing trisheterocyclic systems and carbazole as the copolymerization unit were synthesized by the Suzuki coupling reaction and characterized using NMR spectroscopy and other methods. 4'-(3,5-Dibromophenyl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine and 2,2'-(4-(3,5-dibromophenyl)pyridine-2,6-diyl)dithiazole were used as the recognizing units of the two polymers respectively. The polymers show blue-violet fluorescence when dissolved in THF.

Article Synopsis
  • Unhealthy habits during teenage years can lead to serious health issues later, so it’s important for young people in China to adopt healthier lifestyles.
  • The study wanted to find out how being happy with life, having a healthy family, and being active were linked to healthier living among young adults in China.
  • Results showed that being satisfied with life is related to a healthier family, being more active, and having a better lifestyle; family health and physical activity play key roles in this connection.

Tumor spheroids are widely studied for in vitro modeling of tumor growth and responses to anticancer drugs. However, current methods are mostly limited to static and perfusion-based cultures, which can be improved by more accurately mimicking pathological conditions. Here, we developed a diffusion-based dynamic culture system for tumor spheroids studies using a thin membrane of hydrogel microwells and a microfluidic device.

Background: The Nurses' Cancer Pain Management Competency Scale (NCPMCS) is a tool to explore nurses' competencies and subjective experiences in cancer pain management, and to help nurses understand their current shortcomings in cancer pain management. The scale, currently available only in English and translated into Chinese for wider adoption abroad, provides a tool for Chinese nurses to assess their level of cancer pain management. Furthermore, based on the scale's specific score, they can evaluate their lack of understanding about cancer pain management, advance research into this area, and enhance their capacity to control cancer pain while providing patient care.

Tumor spheroids are now intensively investigated toward preclinical and clinical applications, necessitating the establishment of accessible and cost-effective methods for routine operations. Without losing the advantage of organ-chip technologies, we developed a rocking system for facile formation and culture of tumor spheroids in hydrogel microwells of a suspended membrane under microfluidic conditions. While the rocking is controlled with a step motor, the microfluidic device is made of two plastic plates, allowing plugging directly syringe tubes with Luer connectors.

The most attractive advantages of all-inorganic cesium lead halide perovskites are their optical gain over broad spectral ranges through the visible spectrum, so are well suited to use in tunable lasers or broadband amplifiers. Most reported anion exchange reactions face a challenge to achieve the desired halogen-variable perovskites due to rapid and uncontrollable reactions and difficulty to synthesize directly. In this study, a simple vapor/solid anion exchange strategy is demonstrated for controlling the reaction process and realizing a wide range tuning of band gap and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) wavelength, which exhibits a temperature-dependent anion exchange rate.

Recent advances have shown the high sensibility of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in real-time monitoring of cell barriers on a chip. Here, we applied this method to the investigation of human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) derived and artificial basement membrane (ABM) supported endothelial barrier. The ABM was obtained by self-assembling type IV collagen and laminin with a monolayer of crosslinked gelatin nanofibers.

Cerebral ischemic injury, one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, triggers various central nervous system (CNS) diseases, including acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and chronic ischemia-induced Alzheimer's disease (AD). Currently, targeted therapies are urgently needed to address neurological disorders caused by cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury (CI/RI), and the emergence of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) may be able to relieve the pressure. Neutrophils are precursors to brain injury following ischemic stroke and exert complicated functions.

A novel conjugated polymer PCZBTA-TBZ containing thiabendazole as recognition unit was synthesized via Suzuki coupling reaction, and its structural characterization, spectroscopic analysis and photophysical properties were investigated. In the metal ion response study, the addition of Cu led to the occurrence of the photoinduced electron transfer (PET) mechanism, which significantly quenched the fluorescence of the polymer PCZBTA-TBZ with a quenching effect of 98%. Furthermore, I can significantly quench the fluorescence of the polymer, but other anions have no such effect.

Multidrug resistance (MDR) is a major cause of disease relapse and mortality in breast cancer. Paired‑related homeobox 1 (PRRX1) is associated with the epithelial‑mesenchymal transition (EMT), which is involved in tumor development, including cell invasion and MDR. However, the effect of PRRX1 on MDR had not clearly established.

In recent years, non-toxic quantum dot has caught the attention of biomedical fields. However, the inherent cytotoxicity of QDs makes its biomedical application painful, and is a major drawback of this method. In this paper, a non-toxic and water-soluble quantum dot AgInZnS-GO using graphene oxide was synthesized.

Nitrite is a toxic substance, when excessive nitrite enters the human body, it will be seriously harmful to human. At present, the detection methods of nitrite are complicated to operate and require expensive detection instruments. Therefore, an effective, fast and highly selective nanogold film interdigital electrode sensors that can detect nitrite easily and quickly is developed in the work.
