Purpose: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of posterior scleral contraction (PSC) in the treatment of myopic traction maculopathy (MTM) by three-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging (3D MRI), swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) and swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA).

Methods: In this prospective study, 30 eyes of 25 patients with MTM were treated with PSC. The ocular parameters of the patients were measured before surgery and at 1 month, 6 months, and 1 year after 3D MRI and SS-OCT/OCTA.

Background: To assess the rate of macular blood flow decreasing in adults with and without posterior staphyloma (PS) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and to identify risk factors associated with PS progression.

Methods: This longitudinal case-control study enrolled 122 eyes of 122 patients-64 patients with PS (PS group) and 58 patients without PS (NPS group). Participants underwent OCTA and clinical examinations at least twice, and those followed for at least one year were included in the analysis.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the microcirculatory characteristics of the dome-shaped macula (DSM), its complications in highly myopic eyes and to explore the factors associated with a DSM.

Methods: This cross-sectional case-control study included a total of 98 subjects (98 eyes): 49 eyes with DSM and 49 eyes without DSM. The axial length (AL) of the myopic eyes was matched 1:1 to eliminate the effect of AL differences on the results.

Corneal injury leads to impaired normal structure of the cornea. Improving the wound healing process in epithelial cells significantly contributes to ocular damage treatments. Here, we aimed to investigate the potential mechanisms of nitric oxide (NO) and its mediator, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), in the process of corneal wound healing.

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are a family of natural microbial biopolyesters with the same basic chemical structure and diverse side chain groups. Based on their excellent biodegradability, biocompatibility, thermoplastic properties and diversity, PHAs are highly promising medical biomaterials and elements of medical devices for applications in tissue engineering and drug delivery. However, due to the high cost of biotechnological production, most PHAs have yet to be applied in the clinic and have only been studied at laboratory scale.

The dynamic trajectory of metabolites and gene expression related to phosphorus absorption and utilization in soybean seedling roots were determined under short- and long-term phosphorus deficiency stress. The metabolome results showed that and cycles were enhanced after 2 days of phosphorus deficiency stress; however, they were inhibited after 15 days. GC-TOF-MS showed that phosphorus deficiency increased the accumulation of amino acids significantly after 2 days, whereas organic acids and lipid substances increased significantly after 15 days.

Background And Hypothesis: Schizophrenia is a polygenetic mental disorder with heterogeneous positive and negative symptom constellations, and is associated with abnormal cortical connectivity. The thalamus has a coordinative role in cortical function and is key to the development of the cerebral cortex. Conversely, altered functional organization of the thalamus might relate to overarching cortical disruptions in schizophrenia, anchored in development.

Prcis: Lamina cribrosa (LC) thinning (thickness of ≤128.00 µm) helps to distinguish open angle glaucoma from high myopia, which was associated with the presence of microvasculature dropout and elevated intraocular pressure.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors associated with LC thickness in highly myopic eyes with and without open angle glaucoma.

Background: Previous reports have suggested that inflammation levels play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of high myopia (HM). This study aimed to investigate the relationship between HM and systemic inflammation using the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR).

Methods: Overall, 100 age- and sex-matched participants were recruited for the study, including 50 participants each in the non-HM (NHM) and HM groups.

Spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive motor and nonmotor deficits concomitant with degenerative pathophysiological changes within the cerebellum. The cerebellum is topographically organized into cerebello-cerebral circuits that create distinct functional networks regulating movement, cognition, and affect. SCA3-associated motor and nonmotor symptoms are possibly related not only to intracerebellar changes but also to disruption of the connectivity within these cerebello-cerebral circuits.

This study aimed to explore the macular structures and vascular characteristics of more myopic (MM) and contralateral eyes with highly myopic anisometropia. Comprehensive ophthalmic examinations were performed for 33 patients with highly myopic anisometropia. Macular structures (total retinal layer [TRL], ganglion cell and inner plexiform layer [GCIPL], inner nuclear layer [INL], outer retinal layer [ORL], nerve fiber layer [NFL], choroidal layer [CHL]) and vascular characteristics (superficial vascular complex density [SVD], deep vascular complex density [DVD], choriocapillaris perfusion area [CCPA]) were assessed using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA).

Microwave sterilization technology is an environmentally friendly non-incineration disposal method for medical waste. The core sterilization technology of "microwave sterilization, steam makes the system heat up quickly" was adopted to build a microwave sterilization screw conveyor system that can continuously and dynamically type microwave sterilization. The platinum resistance temperature sensor is used to measure the temperature of the steam at the outlet of the system and the temperature of the material at the outlet.

Owing to the complicated geometric conditions and increasingly diversified driving environment, freeway curves have become a road section with frequent serious accidents. To ensure safe driving on curves, drivers must first perceive the movement condition and the vehicle's position, and accurately evaluate the characteristics of the road to make the right speed choice. In this process, the perception of speed plays a crucial role.

Collagen is a kind of biocompatible protein material, which is widely used in medical tissue engineering, drug delivery, cosmetics, food and other fields. Because of its wide source, low extraction cost and good physical and chemical properties, it has attracted the attention of many researchers in recent years. However, the application of collagen derived from terrestrial organisms is limited due to the existence of diseases, religious beliefs and other problems.

To improve treatment outcomes of patients with schizophrenia, research efforts have focused on identifying brain-based markers of treatment response. Personal characteristics regarding disease-related behaviors likely stem from interindividual variability in the organization of brain functional systems. This study aimed to track dimension-specific changes in psychotic symptoms following risperidone treatment using individual-level functional connectivity (FC).

Extraction of causal relations between biomedical entities in the form of Biological Expression Language (BEL) poses a new challenge to the community of biomedical text mining due to the complexity of BEL statements. We propose a simplified form of BEL statements [Simplified Biological Expression Language (SBEL)] to facilitate BEL extraction and employ BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representation from Transformers) to improve the performance of causal relation extraction (RE). On the one hand, BEL statement extraction is transformed into the extraction of an intermediate form-SBEL statement, which is then further decomposed into two subtasks: entity RE and entity function detection.

The entrance and exit sections of a tunnel are the accident black-spots in an expressway. For a safe operation of road tunnels, it is necessary to understand a driver's physiological indices and driving performance when driving through tunnels. In this study, the UC-Win/Road simulation software was used to build 12 tunnel models of different lengths.

Even with an overarching functional dysconnectivity model of adolescent-onset schizophrenia (AOS), there have been no functional connectome (FC) biomarkers identified for predicting patients' specific symptom domains. Adolescence is a period of dramatic brain maturation, with substantial interindividual variability in brain anatomy. However, existing group-level hypotheses of AOS lack precision in terms of neuroanatomical boundaries.
