Background: Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) combined with ablation has better clinical outcomes than monotherapy in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, prolonged time intervals can lead to recanalization and neoangiogenesis, which may interfere with the synergistic effects of combination therapy. This study aimed to investigate whether TACE simultaneously combined with microwave ablation (MWA) is more effective than sequential therapy in patients with HCC.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is associated with mutations in lipopolysaccharide-binding protein ( ), but the underlying epigenetic mechanisms remain understudied. Herein, rats with NAFLD were established and used to conduct integrative targeting-active enhancer histone H3 lysine 27 acetylation (H3K27ac) chromatin immunoprecipitation coupled with high-throughput and transcriptomic sequencing analysis to explore the potential epigenetic pathomechanisms of active enhancers of NAFLD exacerbation upon deficiency. Notably, reduced the inflammatory response but markedly aggravated high-fat diet (HFD)-induced NAFLD in rats, with pronounced alterations in the histone acetylome and regulatory transcriptome.

Human activity understanding is of widespread interest in artificial intelligence and spans diverse applications like health care and behavior analysis. Although there have been advances with deep learning, it remains challenging. The object recognition-like solutions usually try to map pixels to semantics directly, but activity patterns are much different from object patterns, thus hindering another success.

Computer vision has emerged as a powerful tool to elevate behavioral research. This protocol describes a computer vision machine learning pipeline called AlphaTracker, which has minimal hardware requirements and produces reliable tracking of multiple unmarked animals, as well as behavioral clustering. AlphaTracker pairs a top-down pose-estimation software combined with unsupervised clustering to facilitate behavioral motif discovery that will accelerate behavioral research.

Accurate whole-body multi-person pose estimation and tracking is an important yet challenging topic in computer vision. To capture the subtle actions of humans for complex behavior analysis, whole-body pose estimation including the face, body, hand and foot is essential over conventional body-only pose estimation. In this article, we present AlphaPose, a system that can perform accurate whole-body pose estimation and tracking jointly while running in realtime.

Most social species self-organize into dominance hierarchies, which decreases aggression and conserves energy, but it is not clear how individuals know their social rank. We have only begun to learn how the brain represents social rank and guides behaviour on the basis of this representation. The medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) is involved in social dominance in rodents and humans.

Erythroid differentiation-associated gene (EDAG) is differentially expressed in normal hematopoietic progenitor/stem cells and a variety of embryonic tissues. High EDAG-1 expression is also found in human thyroid cancer cells and peripheral blood of patients with leukemia, but its functional significance was unclear. Current study aims to further clarify the expression pattern of EDAG-1 and tests its roles in proliferation and invasion of human thyroid cancer cells in vitro and in vivo.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic moderate alcohol consumption is linked to worsened outcomes in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients, correlating with advanced cancer stages and poorer prognosis.
  • Research using both patient data and lab experiments indicates that alcohol enhances the cancer's progression and ability to spread, driven by increased tumor hypertrophy and blood vessel growth.
  • The study highlights that the underlying mechanism involves the buildup of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and activation of NF-κB signaling, leading to increased production of growth factors like VEGF and MCP-1 that promote tumor development.

Arsenite (AS) is a ubiquitous environmental element that is widely present in food, soil, and water. Environmental exposure to AS represents a major global health concern, because AS is a well-established human carcinogen. We hypothesize that low concentration of AS could enhance metastasis and proliferation of transformed cancer cells by promoting EMT.

This work aimed to analyze quantitative changes of peritubular cells in testes of aged men. Testicular tissues were obtained from 42 aged men with advanced prostate cancer and 16 young men with biopsy, quantitatively investigated with stereological techniques with quadrate mask grid, measured the parameters volume density (V(V)), numerical density on area (N(A)), and numerical density (N(V)) with grid test points. No significant differences were found in cell ratio, peritubular cell number per tubule, diameter of seminiferous tubules between young and old men (p>0.

Objective: To observe the therapeutic effect of acupuncture treatment on stroke according to the acupoint selection of "Najia method of Ziwua Liuzhu" and to investigate the mechanism.

Methods: One hundred and ninety cases were randomly divided into a Ziwu Liuzhu group (n=95) and a routine acupuncture group (n=95). Five shu points on different meridians were selected according to the Tiangan (Heavenly Stems)-tables of "Najia method of Ziwu Liuzhu" in the Ziwu Liuzhu group, and the treatment was carried out within the period from Chen (7:00-9:00 AM) to Si (9:00-11:00 AM).
