In this study, the electro-Fenton (EF) method was applied to remove total organic carbon (TOC) from the pesticide production wastewater containing tricyclazole (TC). Statistical Taguchi method was used to optimize the treatment performance. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) indicated that the polynomial regression model fitted experimental data with R of 0.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFDisease pathogenesis, a type of domain knowledge about biological mechanisms leading to diseases, has not been adequately encoded in machine-learning-based medical diagnostic models because of the inter-patient variabilities and complex dependencies of the underlying pathogenetic mechanisms. We propose 1) a novel pathogenesis probabilistic graphical model (PPGM) to quantify the dynamics underpinning patient-specific data and pathogenetic domain knowledge, 2) a Bayesian-based inference paradigm to answer the medical queries and forecast acute onsets. The PPGM model consists of two components: a Bayesian network of patient attributes and a temporal model of pathogenetic mechanisms.

Reactions proceeded without the use of any solvents and were compatible with many functionalities and heterocycles. These conditions allow for a rapid synthesis of thioamides from simple, commercial substrates.

Here we present converging evidence from PET blood flow, event-related scalp potentials, and behavioral responses during dichotic listening, showing homologous and complementary hemispheric specialization for word and accent detection. Accuracy of detecting target words was greater when stimuli were presented to the right ear, indicating left hemisphere specialization, with no ear advantage for detecting target accents. Detection of words also produced increased blood flow in a left frontal area associated with motor and phonetic processing, and a left temporal area associated with semantic memory.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFCorticotropin releasing factor (CRF) infused bilaterally into the lateral ventricles of awake, chronically cannulated, male Sprague-Dawley rats produced a dose-dependent increase in the in vitro activity of cortical and midbrain tryptophan hydroxylase after 60 min. The maximal increase in enzyme activity of 60% over that of vehicle-treated controls was reached 45 min after an infusion of 3 micrograms CRF. The increase in enzyme activity after a single dose of CRF resembled that seen after exposure of rats to an acute sound stress: it was reversed by preincubation of the enzyme preparation with alkaline phosphatase and was nonadditive with the increase in activity obtained in the presence of phosphorylating conditions.
