Infrared (IR) photodetectors play an important role in many fields such as industry, medicine, security, Achieving high response and maintaining stability in the device performance while reducing materials cost are required for the practical use of optical sensors. This study presents the development of a low-cost but high-performance IR photodetector based on a hybridization of up-conversion microparticles of NaYF:Tm,Yb (UCMPs) and reduced graphene oxide material (RGO). In this combination, UCMPs play the role of absorbing photons from 980 nm excitation light, generating electron-hole pairs, which are useful for sensing applications.

Here we report a series of nitrogen-rich conjugated macrocycles that mimic the structure and function of semiconducting 2D metal-organic and covalent organic frameworks while providing greater solution processability and surface tunability. Using a new tetraaminotriphenylene building block that is compatible with both coordination chemistry and dynamic covalent chemistry reactions, we have synthesized two distinct macrocyclic cores containing Ni-N and phenazine-based linkages, respectively. The fully conjugated macrocycle cores support strong interlayer stacking and accessible nanochannels.

While artemisinin and its derivatives, including 11-azaartemisinin-based compounds, have shown promising anticancer activity, the integration of halogens into aromatic structures can amplify drug potency, metabolic stability, and selectivity. Herein, we present the synthesis of new novel 11-azaartemisinin derivatives bearing halogenated aromatic moieties connected via 1,2,3-triazole bridges and evaluate their anticancer activities against three human tumor cell lines: epidermoid carcinoma (KB), hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2), and human lung adenocarcinoma (A549). Among the synthesized compounds, six of them (8c-h) displayed good to excellent antiproliferative activity in the low micromolar range across all three human cancer cell lines.

In this work, ZnO nanoplates and FeO nanospindles were successfully fabricated a simple hydrothermal method using inorganic salts as precursors. The ZnO/FeO hybrid was fabricated using a mechanical mixture of two different ZnO : FeO weight ratios to investigate the effect of weight ratio on catalytic properties. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images showed that ZnO nanoplates (NPls) are about 20 nm thick with lateral dimensions of 100 × 200 nm, and FeO nanospindles (NSs) are about 500 nm long and 50 nm wide.

Density functional theory and a semi-empirical quantum chemical approach were used to evaluate the photocatalytic efficiency of ceria (CeO) combined with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and graphene (GP) for degrading methylene blue (MB). Two main aspects were examined: the adsorption ability of rGO and GP for MB, and the separation of photogenerated electrons and holes in CeO/rGO and CeO/GP. Our results, based on calculations of the adsorption energy, population analysis, bond strength index, and reduced density gradient, show favorable energetics for MB adsorption on both rGO and GP surfaces.

Concurrent readout of sequence and base modifications from long unamplified DNA templates by Pacific Biosciences of California (PacBio) single-molecule sequencing requires large amounts of input material. Here we adapt Tn5 transposition to introduce hairpin oligonucleotides and fragment (tagment) limiting quantities of DNA for generating PacBio-compatible circular molecules. We developed two methods that implement tagmentation and use 90-99% less input than current protocols: (1) single-molecule real-time sequencing by tagmentation (SMRT-Tag), which allows detection of genetic variation and CpG methylation; and (2) single-molecule adenine-methylated oligonucleosome sequencing assay by tagmentation (SAMOSA-Tag), which uses exogenous adenine methylation to add a third channel for probing chromatin accessibility.
