This research focuses on the development of a novel Ru-doped TiO/grapefruit peel biochar/FeO (Ru-TiO/PC/FeO) composite catalyst, which exhibits exceptional photocatalytic efficacy under simulated solar light irradiation. The catalyst is highly effective in the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB), methylene blue (MB), methyl orange (MO), as well as actual industrial dye wastewater (IDW), and can be recovered magnetically for multiple reuse cycles. Significantly, the PCTRF-100 sample exhibited degradation efficiencies of 99.

A novel and efficient cancer therapy was developed using a smart hydrogel containing multifunctional bimetallic organic frameworks and anticancer drugs. The injectable self-healing hydrogel with pH-responsiveness was constructed through borate ester and imine bonds among dopamine-grafted sodium alginate (SADA), hydroxypropyl chitosan (HPCS) and 2-formylphenylboronic acid (2-FPBA). The Au nanoparticles-decorated Ti/Fe bimetallic organic framework tetragonal nanosheets (Au/TF-MOF TNS) were synthesized and incorporated into the hydrogel with the anticancer drugs doxorubicin (DOX).

The limitations of traditional therapeutic methods such as chemotherapy serious restricted the application in tumor treatment, including poor targeting, toxic side effects and poor precision. It is important to develop non-chemotherapeutic systems to achieve precise and efficient tumor treatment. Therefore, a functional metal-organic framework material (MOF) with porphyrin core and doped with Cu and surface-modified with polydopamine (PDA), namely PCN-224(Cu)@PDA (PCP) was designed and prepared.

In this work, a novel and efficient magnesium ferrite-modified montmorillonite (MgFeO-MMT) compound was prepared. MgFeO-MMT and biochar were mixed at 0:10, 1:9, 3:7, 4:6, and 10:0 w/w combinations and were used for heavy metal immobilization in soil polluted with multiple heavy metals. MgFeO-MMT can significantly increase soil alkalinity, and it exhibited the most optimal effect in immobilization of heavy metals in soil.

Liver fibrosis occurs in most types of chronic liver diseases. The understanding of the pathogenesis of liver fibrosis has grown considerably, but the effective treatments are still lacking. Alogliptin, a classical Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP4) inhibitor with great effects on type 2 diabetes, has shown the potential to protect liver, but its effects on the progression of liver fibrosis have not been clarified.

Sewage sludge biodrying is a treatment that uses bio-heat generated from organic degradation to remove water from sewage sludge. Dewatering is still limited during biodrying, due to the presence of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) in sludge. To study the biodrying mechanism associated with EPS compositions tryptophan and tyrosine degradations, this study investigated the microbial function in sludge biodrying material.
