We analyse mobile-immobile transport of particles that switch between the mobile and immobile phases with finite rates. Despite this seemingly simple assumption of Poissonian switching, we unveil a rich transport dynamics including significant transient anomalous diffusion and non-Gaussian displacement distributions. Our discussion is based on experimental parameters for tau proteins in neuronal cells, but the results obtained here are expected to be of relevance for a broad class of processes in complex systems.

Our model unifies different model approaches based on distributed-order diffusion equations, exciton diffusion rate models, and random-walk models for multirate mobile-immobile mass transport. We study various forms for the trapping time dynamics and their effects on the tracer mass in the mobile zone.

It employed the dramatic arts to support the healing process, promote resilience, and increase dialogue and understanding about mental health among individuals who were directly affected by the disasters. The four performances fostered important discussions regarding the psychological impact of the Tōhoku disasters.

Methods: One thousand one hundred forty-three revisions, performed between 2008 and 2016 were grouped into primary (55%) and secondary (45%) revisions. The rate of revision indications was calculated and indications were categorized by time after index operation.
Aims: Lectin-like oxLDL receptor-1 (LOX-1) mediates the uptake of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) in endothelial cells and macrophages. However, the different atherogenic potential of LOX-1-mediated endothelial and macrophage oxLDL uptake remains unclear. The present study was designed to investigate the in vivo role of endothelial LOX-1 in atherogenesis.

Administration of angiogenic early outgrowth cells (EOCs) or CD34(+) cells has been suggested to improve cardiac function after ischemic injury, in particular by promoting neovascularization. The present study therefore examines regulation of angiomiRs, microRNAs involved in angiogenesis, in angiogenic EOCs and circulating CD34(+) cells from patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) and the role for their cardiac repair capacity.

Besides the blood-brain barrier (BBB) the choroid plexus, which forms the blood-cerebrospinal-fluid (CSF) barrier (BCSFB), was shown to be involved in the pathogenesis of enteroviral meningitis. In a human in vitro model of the BCSFB consisting of human choroid plexus papilloma cells (HIBCPP), the permissiveness of plexus epithelial cells for Echovirus 30 (EV30) was analyzed by immunoblotting and quantitative real-time PCR (Q-PCR).

However, the endothelial effects of HDL are highly heterogeneous, and the impact of HDL of patients with CAD on the activation of endothelial eNOS and eNOS-dependent pathways is unknown. Here we have demonstrated that, in contrast to HDL from healthy subjects, HDL from patients with stable CAD or an acute coronary syndrome (HDLCAD) does not have endothelial antiinflammatory effects and does not stimulate endothelial repair because it fails to induce endothelial NO production.

Background: Nebivolol is a third-generation selective β₁-adrenoreceptor antagonist that stimulates endothelial cell nitric oxide (NO) production and prevents vascular reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase activation. Both endothelial NO synthase-derived NO production and NADPH oxidase activation are critical modulators of LV dysfunction early after MI.
Prehypertension is a highly frequent condition associated with an increased cardiovascular risk. Endothelial dysfunction is thought to promote the development of hypertension and vascular disease; however, underlying mechanisms remain to be further determined. The present study characterizes for the first time the in vivo endothelial repair capacity of early endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) in patients with prehypertension/hypertension and examines its relation with endothelial function.

We therefore compared the endothelial effects of HDL from healthy subjects and from patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and low HDL (meeting the criteria for metabolic syndrome), who are frequently considered for HDL-raising therapies. Moreover, in diabetic patients, we examined the impact of extended-release (ER) niacin therapy on the endothelial effects of HDL.

BK and JC are both members of the polyomavirus family. BK virus is a known cause of haemorrhagic cystitis in bone-marrow and nephropathy in kidney transplant patients, whereas JC virus is mainly associated with progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy and only rarely found in haemorrhagic cystitis.

Endothelial injury is thought to play a pivotal role in the development and progression of vascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis, hypertension or restenosis, as well as their complications, including myocardial infarction or stroke. Accumulating evidence suggests that bone marrow-derived endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) promote endothelial repair and contribute to ischemia-induced neovascularization. Coronary artery disease and its risk factors, such as diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension and smoking, are associated with a reduced number and impaired functional activity of circulating EPCs.

There were no magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) indications for opportunistic infection. Plasma viremia was controlled, whereas viral replication was uncontrolled in CSF.

Background: Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) are thought to contribute to endothelial recovery after arterial injury. We therefore compared in vivo reendothelialization capacity of EPCs derived from patients with diabetes mellitus and healthy subjects. Moreover, we examined the effect of treatment with the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma agonist rosiglitazone on oxidant stress, nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability, and the in vivo reendothelialization capacity of EPCs from diabetic individuals.

An increased myocardial activity of the NAD(P)H oxidase, a major oxidant enzyme system, has been observed in human heart failure; however, the role of the NAD(P)H oxidase for LV remodeling and dysfunction after MI remains to be determined. MI was induced in wild-type (WT) mice (n=46) and mice lacking the cytosolic NAD(P)H oxidase component p47(phox) (p47(phox)-/- mice) (n=32).

The cytosolic subunit p47phox is critically involved in agonist-induced NAD(P)H oxidase activation. Here, we investigated the role of p47phox in blood pressure control, endothelium-dependent relaxation, cardiac hypertrophy, RAS activation, and renal oxidative stress under resting conditions.

Drinking water is currently a scarce world resource, the preparation of which requires complex treatments that include clarification of suspended particles and disinfection. Seed extracts of Moringa oleifera Lam., a tropical tree, have been proposed as an environment-friendly alternative, due to their traditional use for the clarification of drinking water.
