Ectopic thyroid tissue is a result of abnormal embryologic development and migration of the thyroid gland. It has a prevalence of one per 100,000-300,000, and the risk of malignant transformation in ectopic thyroid tissue is rare. We present a rare case of perivesical ectopic papillary thyroid carcinoma in a 76-year-old man with a normal orthotopic thyroid gland.

Breast carcinoma metastasis to the gastrointestinal tract and tumour-to-tumour metastasis is rare. We describe a case of a 71-year-old woman with previous breast cancer presenting with dyspepsia, nausea and weight-loss. Biopsies from the pylorus revealed what appeared to be a gastric carcinoma.

Emphysematous pyelonephritis (EPN) is a potentially life-threatening infection, where gas produced by bacteria accumulates in the kidney and the surrounding tissue. Although EPN usually presents in diabetic women, it is also associated with urinary tract obstruction and kidney tumours in non-diabetic patients. We present a case of EPN in a non-diabetic patient with a known kidney tumour, successfully treated with double-J catheter, antibiotics and delayed nephrectomy.

Objective: The aims of this study were to present the results of hand-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy according to the margin, ischaemia and complications system; to assess the role of the learning curve; and to compare this approach with other approaches.

In spite of improved surgical principles in colorectal surgery, patients undergoing this operation still suffer from long-term postoperative complications. Many patients have permanent stomas, and up to 60% have problems related to their stomas, the most frequent of these being parastomal hernia. In this context, the use of primary prophylaxis with mesh insertion is encouraging.

Introduction: Blunt isolated pancreas trauma is rare, but it is a very serious condition. Diagnosis and treatment are often delayed, which considerably increases morbidity.
