Although survival after rhabdosarcoma treatment has improved over the years, one third of patients still develop locoregional relapse. This review aims to highlight developments pertaining to staging and local treatment of specific RMS tumor sites, including head and neck, chest/trunk, bladder-prostate, female genito-urinary, perianal, and extremity sites.

QUARTET combines the paediatric radiation oncology expertise of SIOPE with the infrastructure and experience of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer to deliver radiotherapy quality assurance programmes for large, prospective, international clinical trials. QUARTET-affiliated trials include children and adolescents with brain tumours, neuroblastoma, sarcomas including rhabdomyosarcoma, and renal tumours including Wilms' tumour.

The favorable survival in younger patients underlines the need for minimizing treatment burden and late sequelae. Our study aimed at describing clinical characteristics, treatment and outcome of a cohort of ES patients aged 0−10.

The standard radiology workup (SRW) includes magnetic resonance imaging, chest computed tomography (CT) and bone scintigraphy, but 18 Fluorine-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) (F-FDG-PET/CT (PET-CT)) use is increasing. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of PET-CT in the initial staging of patients with metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma enrolled in the European protocol MTS2008.

We studied the immunohistochemical expression of H3K27me3 in embryonal RMSs (ERMSs), performed methylation profiling in order to support the diagnosis and RNA-sequencing for comparison of the transcriptome of H3K27me3-positive and -negative cases. Of the 25 ERMS patients, 17 were males and 8 were females with an age range from 1 to 67 years (median, 6 years).

We report the results of the European paediatric Soft tissue sarcoma Study Group (EpSSG) RMS 2005 study, which prospectively evaluated the reduction of chemotherapy in patients with embryonal RMS (ERMS) after initial surgery.
Methods: Between October 2005 and December 2016, all patients with localised ERMS with an initial microscopically complete resection (IRS group I) with lymph node-negative (N0) were prospectively enrolled in the low-risk (n = 70, subgroup A; age < 10 years and tumour size ≤ 5 cm) or standard-risk group (n = 108, subgroup B; age ≥ 10 years or tumour size > 5 cm.
Cancer therapy is currently shifting from broadly used cytotoxic drugs to patient-specific precision therapies. Druggable driver oncogenes, identified by molecular analyses, are present in only a subset of patients. Functional profiling of primary tumor cells could circumvent these limitations, but suitable platforms are unavailable for most cancer entities.

Methods: Pediatric patients with localized rhabdomyosarcoma of the extremity included in the EpSSG-RMS2005 study between 2005 and 2014 were evaluated for staging, treatment, and survival. The outcome was compared to the preceding European SIOP-MMT studies.
Objectives: In paediatric cancer survivors treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy therapy, late effects on dental development are quite common. Oral radiologists are not familiar with the radiographic images of these specific dental consequences of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. With the goal of educating colleagues, to raise awareness of the needs of survivors, and to identify directions for future research, we present dental radiographs of survivors treated for head and neck rhabdomyosarcoma with chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

In order to explore the potential of immune checkpoint blockade in sarcoma, we investigated expression and clinical relevance of programmed cell death-1 (PD-1), programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) and CD8 in tumors of 208 sarcoma patients. Primary untreated osteosarcoma ( = 46), Ewing sarcoma ( = 32), alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma ( = 20), embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma ( = 77), synovial sarcoma ( = 22) and desmoplastic small round cell tumors (DSRCT) ( = 11) were examined immunohistochemically. PD-L1 expression was predominantly detected in alveolar and embryonal rhabdomyosarcomas (15% and 16%, respectively).

Multimodal treatment consists of chemotherapy and local treatment; however, local treatment for EWS of the head and neck is challenging. The first objective was to describe local treatment administered to the patients with localized EWS of the head and neck according to the EURO-E.
