Resident operative time as an independent predictor of early post-operative cataract surgery outcomes and supervising attending surgeon impact: a retrospective case series.

Background: The authors sought to determine if resident operative time in cataract extraction and intraocular lens insertion (CE/IOL) affects early visual outcomes and post-operative recovery. They further sought to investigate if attending surgeons can reduce resident operative time.

Methods: This retrospective, chart-review, case series at single Veterans Affairs Hospital (VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System) studied resident cataract surgeries between March 1, 2018 and March 31, 2020.

Purpose: To evaluate the real-world therapeutic efficacy and safety of the novel, long-acting fluocinolone acetonide 0.18-mg injectable intravitreal implant (FAi) in chronic uveitis.

Design: Retrospective case series.

Parent attitudes toward resident involvement in their child's strabismus surgery.

Purpose: To explore patterns in parents' understanding and preferences related to ophthalmology resident participation in their child's strabismus surgery.

Methods: Over a 4-week period, a survey was distributed at a suburban, academic eye center to English-speaking parents of children with strabismus who have not previously undergone, or were not being scheduled for, strabismus surgery.

Results: All of the 64 eligible parents participated in the survey.

Patients' overestimation of their illness severity appears to contribute to the national epidemic of emergency department (ED) overcrowding. This study aims to elucidate which patient populations are more likely to have a higher estimation of illness severity (EIS). The investigator surveyed demographic factors of all non-urgent patients at an academic ED.

The Effect of Time to International Normalized Ratio Reversal on Intracranial Hemorrhage Evolution in Patients With Traumatic Brain Injury.

The incidence of geriatric traumatic brain injury (TBI) is increasing throughout the United States, with many of these patients taking anticoagulation (AC) medication. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effect of time to international normalized ratio (INR) reversal on intracranial hemorrhage evolution in TBI patients taking prehospital AC medication. We hypothesized that rapid reversal of INR improves outcomes of head-injured patients taking AC medication.
