This report assesses risk factors associated with mortality in patients presenting with COVID-19 infection and healthcare disparities.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of consecutive patients presenting to emergency departments within an integrated health system who tested positive for COVID-19 between 7 March and 30 April 2020 in metropolitan Detroit.
Rationale: Transmitted resistance to integrase strand inhibitors (INSTI) has been uncommon, but is slowly becoming more prevalent among those living with HIV. In an era with 2-drug regimens for antiretroviral therapy, transmitted resistance for INSTI is alarming.
Patient Concerns: A 28-year-old African American female was recently diagnosed with HIV during a 30-week prenatal visit.
Importance: In late December 2019, an outbreak caused by a novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 emerged in Wuhan, China. Data on the clinical characteristics and outcomes of infected patients in urban communities in the US are limited.

We used molecular data to assess the degree of genetic divergence across the breeding range of the orange-crowned warbler () in western North America with particular focus on characterizing the divergence between populations on the mainland of southern California and on the Channel Islands. We obtained sequences of the mitochondrial gene and genotypes at ten microsatellite data for 192 from populations spanning all four recognized subspecies. We recovered shallow, but significant, levels of divergence among populations across the species range.

We analyzed low-coverage, whole-genome sequence data from fifty-one barred and spotted owls to investigate recent introgression between these two species. Although we obtained genomic confirmation that these species can and do hybridize and backcross, we found no evidence of widespread introgression.

Using the CD4C/HIV-1(Nef) transgenic (Tg) mice as a model, we report that HIV-1 Nef causes depletion of total CD4(+) T cells, but preserves and relatively enriches CD4(+) regulatory T cells (Treg). We found that Nef-mediated CD4(+) Treg enrichment is the direct result of Nef expression in CD4(+) T cells, occurs independently of Nef-induced lymphopenia, and most likely results from multiple mechanisms: lower apoptosis, enhanced cell division, and increased generation from precursors.

All these Nef alleles downregulated cell surface CD4 in human cells in vitro and also, with the exception of Nef(YU10x), in Tg CD4(+) T cells.
