Background: Dermatophyte infection is almost exclusively a superficial cutaneous mycosis usually confined to the stratum corneum of nails and hairs of normal hosts. Deep cutaneous and subcutaneous infections due to dermatophytes are exceedingly rare and usually limited to immunosuppressed individuals. These infections remain chronic and persist in spite of treatment.

Objectives: To identify risk factors for infection with carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae (CRKP) and to characterize microbiological aspects of isolates associated with these infections.
Thirty-six term neonates born after maternal intrapartum fever, with premature rupture of membranes <18 hours and unknown maternal group B Streptococcus status had blood samples for complete blood count, C-reactive protein, culture, and 16S rRNA gene polymerase chain reaction amplification. Only 2 neonates were symptomatic and none had leukopenia, C-reactive protein >1.0 mg/dL, bacteremia, or positive polymerase chain reaction.

Objective: To determine the attributable mortality and outcome of nosocomial Acinetobacter bacteremia.
Design: Matched, retrospective cohort study.
Setting: Large, university-based, tertiary care center.
In this 1st national surveillance study, the susceptibility pattern of 1011 consecutive isolates of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella spp. isolated from patients hospitalized in Israel hospitals, covering 62.3% of all general hospital beds in the country, was investigated.
