Purpose: To evaluate changes in retinal perfusion status with intravitreal aflibercept injection (IAI) and laser treatment in the phase 3 VISTA study of patients with diabetic macular edema (DME).

Design: Post hoc analysis of a double-masked, randomized, active-controlled, phase 3 trial.

Participants: Patients with center-involved DME in the study eye.

Background: It is known that choroidal neovascularization (CNV) in age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) may erode through the retinal pigment epithelium, infiltrate the neurosensory retina, and communicate with the retinal circulation in what has been referred to as a retinal–choroidal anastomosis (RCA). This is extremely common in the end stage of disciform disease. In recent years, the reverse also seems to be possible, as angiomatous proliferation originates from the retina and extends posteriorly into the subretinal space, eventually communicating in some cases with choroidal new vessels.

Case Report: Optic disc pit is an embryological malformation of the optic nerve that occurs in less than one in 10,000 people. It is 10%-15% bilateral, and 25% to 70% of patients develop a neurosensory macular detachment within the 2nd to 4th decade.

Comments: We report a case of unilateral optic disc pit maculopathy 2 months after laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) revision.

Objective: This pilot study was designed to provide preliminary data concerning the safety and efficacy of pegylated anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy, pegaptanib, for patients with juxtapapillary or large peripheral angiomas secondary to von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease.

Methods: This study was an open label, nonrandomized, prospective, pilot study of intravitreal injections of pegaptanib (3 mg/100 microL), given every 6 weeks for minimum of 6 injections. Five patients with severe ocular VHL lesions were enrolled in the study.
