[Analysis of the statistical distribution of aminolevulinic acid dehydratase in a population not exposed to occupational chemical factors].

The subject of the paper has been to check the aminolevulinic dehydratase (ALAD) activity in those with no occupational exposure to inhibitors of this enzyme. Altogether 293 persons have been examined, 132 women and 161 men, aged 20-69. The resultant ALAD activity distribution showed no differences between women and men, though statistically significant differences have been found between the mean values.

[Iron metabolism and serum lysozyme as exponents of nonspecific resistance of workers exposed to CS-2].

The paper was aimed at an evaluation of nonspecific humoral resistance in CS2 chronically exposed workers. The studies covered 68 men of medium, 16 years, duration of employment in exposure and 20 controls. In all subjects the concentration of lysozyme and some ferrum economy parameters were determined.

Induction and cross-species activity of rat fibroblast-derived interferon.

Interferon derived from rat fibroblasts (RFA-1) was pH 2 stable and heat labile. Denaturants such as SDS and urea inactivated this interferon but beta-mercaptoethanol alone did not. IFN yield after Newcastle disease virus was multiplicity of infection (moi) dependent.

Conduit-integration in correction of right ventricular outflow obstruction.

A new method for correction of right ventricular flow tract obstruction is described. The method combines the advantages of patch-plasty-procedure and external valved conduit by conduit integration into the right ventricular and pulmonary arterial wall. Good results had been achieved in 3 cases (2 cases of Fallot's tetralogy and one case of double outlet right ventricle).

Studies on the linkage of energy metabolism and neuronal activity in the isolated perfused rat brain.

An isolated rat brain preparation was perfused using glucose-free (= aglycemic) media. The high-energy phosphates, substrates of the glycolytic pathway, free amino acids, acetylcholine as well as the intracellular distribution of hexokinase activity were determined in brain tissues. The EEG was evaluated visually.

[Biochemical polymorphism in a population exposed to environmental pollutants. Importance of studying the problem].

Genetically conditioned interpersonal differences in reactions to identical doses of medicines make us suppose that some of those exposed to environmental pollutants are at a special risk. This is revealed by detection of some biochemical differences in blood, conditioning a special susceptibility to the effect of some toxic substances. Another method is the so called loading test, aimed at observing the personal reaction to innoxious doses of medicines or toxicants.

[The effects of night breaks on flowering of sinapis alba L].

The induction of flowering in mustard (Sinapis alba L.) was studied by means of night-breaks ("Störlicht"). The plants were cultivated under fully controlled conditions: 8000 Lux white light (mixed fluorescent and incandescent) 18°C, 80% relative humidity.
