Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers analyzed data from two databases, employing multiple methods to assess causality and check for biases, revealing 28 metabolites that affect the risk of these conditions.
  • * Among these metabolites, 8 decrease and 14 increase the risk of lower back pain or sciatica, while no reverse causal associations were found, and further analysis identified 11 significant metabolic pathways linked to the health conditions.

Despite the significant advancements facilitated by previous research in introducing a plethora of retinal biomarkers, there is a lack of research addressing the clinical need for quantifying different biomarkers and prioritizing their importance for guiding clinical decision making in the context of retinal diseases. To address this issue, our study introduces a novel framework for quantifying biomarkers derived from optical coherence tomography (OCT) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) images in retinal diseases. We extract 452 feature parameters from five feature types, including local binary patterns (LBP) features of OCT and OCTA, capillary and large vessel features, and the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) feature.

In this study, we address the challenge of surface roughness in CoCrMo alloys, typically used in artificial knee joints, which can initiate a cascade of biological responses causing inflammation, osteolysis, joint instability, and increased susceptibility to infection. We propose the application of a chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) technique, using an ecologically responsible slurry composed of 4 wt% SiO, 0.3 wt% HO, 1.

Our meta-analysis focused on the relationship between homocysteine (Hcy) level and the incidence of aneurysms and looked at the relationship between smoking, hypertension and aneurysms. A systematic literature search of Pubmed, Web of Science, and Embase databases (up to March 31, 2020) resulted in the identification of 19 studies, including 2,629 aneurysm patients and 6,497 healthy participants. Combined analysis of the included studies showed that number of smoking, hypertension and hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) in aneurysm patients was higher than that in the control groups, and the total plasma Hcy level in aneurysm patients was also higher.
