In low- and middle-income countries, living in homes with soil floors and animal cohabitation may expose children to fecal organisms, increasing risk of enteric and antimicrobial-resistant infections. Our objective was to understand whether cow cohabitation in homes with soil floors in rural Bangladesh contributed to the presence and diversity of potential pathogens and antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) in the home. In 10 randomly selected households in rural Sirajganj District, we sampled floor soil and cow dung, which is commonly used as sealant in soil floors.

Background: Prostate cancer ranks the second most frequent cancer encountered worldwide in men. Radiotherapy has been effectively used to treat localized prostate cancer. Over the years more effective radiation techniques like 3D-Conformal Radiation Therapy (3D-CRT), Proton Therapy, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), and Brachytherapy has been evolved and effectively used to deliver radiation therapy.

Introduction: Preterm and low birth weight (LBW) infants are at an increased risk of morbidity and mortality compared with their term counterparts, with more than 20 million LBW infants born each year, the majority in lower middle-income countries (LMICs). Given the increased vulnerability and higher nutritional needs of these infants, optimizing feeding strategies may play a crucial role in improving their health outcomes.

Methods: We updated evidence of Every Newborn Series published in The Lancet 2014 by identifying relevant systematic reviews, extracting low-income country (LIC) and LMIC data, and conducting revised meta-analysis for these contexts.

Background: Acute abdomen is one of the few conditions that require immediate surgical intervention most of the time. However, not all cases of acute abdomen need surgery. The objective was to determine the various presentations of acute abdomen and their management outcome in patients presenting with acute abdomen to AIMS, Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan.

Introduction: We present a robust and up-to-date synthesis of evidence on the effectiveness of interventions to prevent and treat newborn infections in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Newborn infection prevention interventions included strategies to reduce antimicrobial resistance (AMR), prevention of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), clean birth kits (CBKs), chlorhexidine cleansing, topical emollients, and probiotic and synbiotic supplementation. Interventions to treat suspected neonatal infections included prophylactic systemic antifungal agents and community-based antibiotic delivery for possible serious bacterial infections (PSBIs).

Introduction: Appropriate perinatal care provision and utilization is crucial to improve maternal and newborn survival and potentially meet Sustainable Development Goal 3. Ensuring availability of healthcare infrastructure as well as skilled personnel can potentially help improve maternal and neonatal outcomes globally as well as in resource-limited settings.

Methods: A systematic review on effectiveness of perinatal care regionalization was updated, and a new review on facility-based interventions to improve postnatal care coverage and outcomes was conducted.

Background: Intermittent preventive treatment for malaria in pregnancy (IPTp) can improve birth outcomes, but whether it confers benefits to postnatal growth is unclear. We investigated the effect of IPTp on infant growth in Uganda and its pathways of effects using causal mediation analyses.

Methods: We analysed data from 633 infants born to mothers enrolled in a randomised trial of monthly IPTp with dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine (DP) vs.

Simulation has proven to be one of the most powerful forms of enactive experience in medical sciences, which enhances the efficacy of both direct and vicarious learning. At the undergraduate level, community health nurses are expected to be inclusively knowledgeable about population-based nursing practices with diverse communities; so, they prepare well to establish partnership skills with stakeholders and make collaborative decisions that promote awareness and understanding of the community's health needs. Problem prioritisation is an essential step of the planning cycle.

Article Synopsis
  • Bombax ceiba is a plant used in traditional medicine, and research aims to verify its medicinal properties and safety through scientific analysis.
  • The study focused on extracting oil from Bombax ceiba seeds using the Soxhlet method, analyzing its chemical composition, physical properties, and antioxidant potential.
  • Findings revealed 31 phytochemicals, including beneficial fatty acids and other compounds, although antioxidant activity was low; overall, the oil shows promise for medicinal applications, supporting traditional uses and potential for new drug development.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the genetic basis of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) in a diverse ethnic group with high consanguinity, focusing on 576 individuals to reveal significant genetic insights.
  • - Different sequencing methods were used to diagnose genetic causes, with a notable increase in diagnostic rates for children of consanguineous parents; combined CMA and exome sequencing yielded a 37.13% diagnostic rate.
  • - Key findings include the discovery of novel genetic variants related to NDDs, the identification of an association between G6PD variants and NDDs, and hints at the influence of ancient genetic drift in this Bangladeshi population.

Chemiluminescence (CL) refers to the light-emitting phenomenon resulting from chemical reactions. Due to its simplicity in terms of instrumentation and high sensitivity, CL plays a critical role in analytical chemistry and has developed rapidly in recent years. In this review, we discuss the efforts made by our group in the field of CL.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores how chronic social defeat stress (CSDS) affects social behavior in vulnerable mice, particularly focusing on the male 129 Sv/Ev strain, which shows decreased social interactions and avoidance of a specific type of mouse (CD-1) as a threat response.
  • - Researchers find that defeated 129 Sv/Ev mice learn to associate the CD-1 mouse's appearance with feelings of threat over time, suggesting that their social avoidance is a learned fear response rather than complete social withdrawal.
  • - The findings also indicate that the avoidance behavior can be diminished through social interactions over several days, and individual differences exist in how these mice respond to social targets, highlighting the complexity of fear conditioning in social contexts. *

In this study, we conduct a comprehensive physical analysis of topological indices for the Iron Disulfide (FeS ) network using a curve-fitting model. Iron Disulfide is a cubic compound. In metamorphic rock, sedimentary rock, and quartz veins, it is typically found in combination with other sulfides or oxides.

G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are the largest class of membrane-bound receptors and transmit critical signals from the extracellular to the intracellular spaces. Transcriptomic data of resected breast tumors shows that low mRNA expression of the orphan GPCR GPR52 correlates with reduced overall survival in breast cancer patients, leading to the hypothesis that loss of GPR52 supports breast cancer progression. CRISPR-Cas9 was used to knockout GPR52 in human triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cell lines MDA-MB-468 and MDA-MB-231, and in the non-cancerous breast epithelial cell line, MCF10A.

Article Synopsis
  • * Defeated 129Sv/Ev mice display avoidance of a specific type of mouse (CD-1) instead of other mice, suggesting they still want to socialize but perceive the CD-1 as a threat.
  • * The study reveals that the avoidance behavior can be learned over time and may be extinguished through social interactions, indicating that fear conditioning plays an important role in social avoidance behaviors in mice.

Drought stress is a serious challenge for global food production. Nanofertilizers and nanocomposites cope with such environmental stresses and also increase nutritional contents of fruits. An in vitro experiment was designed to use Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) primed with Proline and Betaine (ZnOP and ZnOBt NPs) at 50 and 100 mg/kg soil against drought stress in Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) plants.
