Upfront fixed-duration treatment strategies for chronic lymphocytic leukemia in Arab populations: a position statement from the Gulf region.

The treatment landscape for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) has expanded dramatically over the last decade, with a wide range of effective treatments now available. Clinical management of CLL varies widely depending on patient profile, meaning the optimal treatment in Arab patients, who tend to be young and often present with comorbidities, including diabetes and obesity, requires specific considerations. In the absence of regional guidelines, a group of experts from across the Gulf region and one international expert from Germany convened to discuss and agree upon a position statement for venetoclax-based fixed-duration treatment strategies for Arab patients with CLL.

Frontline management of multiple myeloma patients: optimizing treatment for patients in the Gulf region.

Treatment options for newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) have expanded dramatically over the last two decades, resulting in remarkable improvements in response rates and median survival times. In eligible patients, autologous stem cell transplant plays the central role of an overall treatment strategy comprising induction, transplantation, consolidation, and maintenance. In this article, we draw from our own collective clinical experience of treating patients with NDMM in the Gulf region to discuss treatment strategies in both transplant-eligible and -ineligible patients, as well as in high-risk patients.

Cost-Minimization Analysis for Subcutaneous Daratumumab in the Treatment of Newly Diagnosed Multiple Myeloma in Three Gulf Countries.

The second most common hematologic cancer worldwide is multiple myeloma (MM), with incidence and mortality rates that have more than doubled over the past 30 years. The safety and efficacy of daratumumab regimens in the treatment of newly diagnosed MM (NDMM) is demonstrated in clinical trials. To assess the financial effects of the adoption of subcutaneous daratumumab (dara-SC) rather than intravenous daratumumab (dara-IV) for the treatment of NDMM in three Gulf countries (Qatar, Oman and the United Arab Emirates; UAE), a cost-minimization model was constructed.

Current Status and Management of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia in the Gulf Region: Survey Results and Expert Opinion.

Studies on chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in the Gulf region are scarce, consisting of a survey and expert meeting that included 15 experts in 2023 which discussed CML diagnosis, testing, treatment objectives, toxicities, and discontinuation in the Gulf region. Most patients were reported to be in first-line therapy, and the most common treatments were imatinib/imatinib generic in first-line and dasatinib in second- and third-lines. Mutation analysis was not reported to be routinely performed at the time of diagnosis but rather in case of progression to accelerated/blast phase or any sign of loss of response.

Consensus-Based Guidelines for Acute Myeloid Leukemia Management in Gulf Cooperation Council Countries: Addressing Unmet Regional Needs and the Changing AML Landscape.

Purpose: AML is a heterogeneous hematologic malignancy. Region-specific recommendations for AML management can enhance patient outcomes. This article aimed to develop recommendations for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Thrombopoietin-receptor agonists for adult patients with immune thrombocytopenia: a narrative review and an approach for managing patients fasting intermittently.

Introduction: Thrombopoietin-receptor agonist (TPO-RAs) currently represent the state of art for treating immune thrombocytopenia. Their different molecular structures contribute to the difference in their pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. This narrative review aims to provide an overview of the current TPO-RAs approved for primary immune thrombocytopenia (romiplostim, eltrombopag, avatrombopag) and the effect of intermittent fasting in adult patients receiving TPO-RAs.

Concurrent coronary artery disease and immune thrombocytopenia: a systematic review.

Introduction: Coronary artery disease (CAD) management in the setting of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) remains very challenging to clinicians as a reasonable balance between bleeding and thrombosis risks needs to be achieved, and the evidence guiding such management is scarce.

Methods: We conducted a systematic review following the PRISMA guidelines to summarize the available literature on the management and outcomes of CAD coexisting with ITP. We searched PubMed and Embase for studies published in English exploring CAD and ITP management until 05 October 2022.

Introduction: Despite recent advances in diagnosis, prognostication, and treatment options, chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is still a largely incurable disease. New concepts on diagnosis, staging, treatment, and follow-up on CLL have been incorporated throughout recent years. The lack of regional consensus guidelines has led to varying practices in the management of patients with CLL in the region.

Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Thrombocytopenia.

Simultaneous existence of acute myeloid leukemia and chronic lymphocytic leukemia: a case report.

Background: The simultaneous Occurrence of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) has been rarely reported. Most of these cases have been occurring more frequently as a secondary event in patients receiving chemotherapeutic agents for CLL.

Background: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common leukemia in adults. The chromosomal abnormality t(14;18)(q32;q21) is most commonly associated with neoplasms of a follicular center cell origin. However, t(14;18) has also been reported in rare cases of CLL.
