Context: Insulin sensitivity and secretion indices can be useful tools in understanding insulin homeostasis in children at risk for diabetes. There have been few studies examining the reproducibility of these measures in pediatrics.

Objective: To determine whether fasting or oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT)-derived insulin measures would be more reproducible and whether there would be differences based on weight, sex, race, and pubertal status.

A rare cause of acute abdomen in a paediatric patient: A case report of a twisted ovarian cyst.

Ovarian cysts are rare in children. Their common presentation is acute abdomen, which can be a life-threatening event that needs emergent investigation and intervention. Herein, we report a gynaecological case of a twisted ovarian cyst in an 11-year-old girl who presented to the emergency department with sudden-onset generalised abdominal pain.

Ethnobotanical survey of medicinal wild plants in the Shouf Biosphere Reserve, Lebanon.

Background: Medicinal plants and associated traditional knowledge play a vital role in supporting the livelihoods and resilience of indigenous communities. This ethnobotanical survey aims to identify medicinal plants used by the local communities of the Shouf Biosphere Reserve of Lebanon (SBR) and document the associated traditional knowledge.

Methodology: Focus groups and personal interviews with 133 informants of community members of 22 villages of SBR were performed during 2019-2022.

Early mobilization, which includes active / passive motion in bed along with mobilization out of bed, is recommended to prevent the development of intensive care unit acquired-weakness (ICU-AW) for patients with critical illness on the intensive care unit. To date, the impact of passive motion of the lower extremities in sedated and ventilated patients remains unclear. The aim of the study is to systematically review and summarize the currently available randomized controlled trials in English or German language on the impact of passive motion of the lower extremities in sedated and ventilated patients ≥ 18 years in the intensive care unit on musculature, inflammation and immune system and the development of intensive care unit-acquired weakness and to evaluate the replicability of interventions and the methodological quality of included studies.

Human Metapneumovirus Infection in a Children's Hospital - It Should Get More Attention.

Background: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza infections are a major cause of hospitalization and intensive care unit (ICU) admission to children's hospitals and are closely tracked. We compared data over 6 seasons of human metapneumovirus (hMPV), RSV and influenza infections.

Methods: During the 2014-2019 winter viral seasons, hMPV, RSV and influenza infections were tracked.

Minorities' Diminished Return theory is defined as the relative disadvantage of minority populations compared to Whites regarding health gains that follow socioeconomic status (SES). To test whether Minorities' Diminished Return theory holds for unmet dental care needs (DCN), we investigated Black-White differences in the effects of family income on unmet DCN among children. Data from the National Survey of Children's Health were used.

Characterisation of electrospun gelatine nanofibres encapsulated with Moringa oleifera bioactive extract.

Background: Drumstick (Moringa oleifera) leaves have been used as a folk herbal medicine across many cultures since ancient times. This is most probably due to presence of phytochemicals possessing antioxidant properties, which could retard oxidative stress, and their degenerative effect. The current study deals with nanoencapsulation of Moringa oleifera (MO) leaf ethanolic extract within fish sourced gelatine matrix using electrospinning technique.

Ethnicity influences disease characteristics and symptom severity in allergic rhinitis patients in Malaysia.

Background: The number of available reports regarding the influence of ethnicity on clinical features of allergic rhinitis (AR), especially disease severity in tropical climates, is limited. We aimed to compare clinical parameters and disease severity in AR patients of different ethnicities.

Methods: Malay, Chinese, and Indian AR patients (n = 138) with confirmed sensitivity to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, Dematophagoides farinae, and Blomia tropicalis were tested for mite-specific immunoglobulin E (sIgE) levels.

Atypical Dengue Meningitis in Makkah, Saudi Arabia with Slow Resolving, Prominent Migraine like Headache, Phobia, and Arrhythmia.

Although dengue meningitis is a rare presentation of dengue infection, our aim is to focus on atypical presentation of dengue meningitis that may appear in dengue endemic area like the Makkah region. We report two cases of clinical meningitis with positive dengue virus (DENV) IgM in cerebrospinal fluid, followed for minimal 3 months for their prominent attacks of migraine like headache, phobia, and arrhythmia. With special consideration to attack time, type, severity, and respond to classical therapy, using regular ECG monitoring, visual analog pain score and neuropsychological assessments were done.

Intracranial ROSAI-DORFMAN Disease.

Objective: To investigate differences in lesions and surrounding normal appearing white matter (NAWM) by perfusion-weighted imaging (PWI) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in patients with acute and chronic ischemic stroke and multiple sclerosis (MS).

Methods: Study subjects included 45 MS patients, 22 patients with acute ischemic stroke and 20 patients with chronic ischemic stroke. All subjects underwent T2-weighted imaging (WI), flair attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR), DWI and dynamic contrast enhanced PWI.

The effect of an ampholytic surfactant on the swelling properties of polymeric materials was studied, using various swelling liquids. Tablets were prepared consisting of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, poly(oxyethylene) and sodium alginate. Tego betain was the non-ionic surfactant used as an additive in a series of samples made of the above polymers.
