Objectives: The first case report describing a pediatric fracture of the tibial tubercle was published in 1852 in the Medical Times and Gazette, a Journal of Medical Science, literature, criticism, and news. A century later, in 1955, Sir Watson-Jones introduced the first classification system for this fracture. Despite the existence of several classification systems for pediatric tibial tubercle fractures in the medical literature, a crucial aspect of their validation-reliability and reproducibility-has not yet been systematically evaluated.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIntroduction: Patients with sleep apnea, affecting up to 1 in 4 older men in the United States, may be at increased risk of postoperative complications after total knee arthroplasty (TKA), including increased thromboembolic and cerebrovascular events, as well as respiratory, cardiac, and digestive complications. However, the extent to which the use of CPAP in patients with sleep apnea has been studied in TKA is limited.
Methods: A national, all-payer database was queried to identify all patients who underwent a primary TKA between 2010 and 2021.
Background: Defects in sterile surgical wrapping are identified by the presence of holes through which light can be seen. However, it is unknown how reliably the human eye can detect these defects.
Questions/purposes: The purpose of this study was to determine (1) how often holes in sterile packaging of various sizes could be detected; and (2) whether differences in lighting, experience level of the observer, or time spent inspecting the packaging were associated with improved likelihood of detection of holes in sterile packaging.
