Utilizing the framework of environmental health risk assessment and healing, the article reviews the effectiveness and potential of green space systems in mitigating the impact of high temperatures, promoting mental health, and improving the risk characteristics of high-temperature heat waves. We utilized CiteSpace software to conduct a time-zone analysis of the relationship between heatwaves, green spaces, and health using clustered data from 2001 to 2023. This study evaluates the role of green space systems in mitigating high temperatures and enhancing mental health within the environmental health risk assessment framework.

Nevertheless, the mechanisms underlying newborn sepsis remain ambiguous. Programmed cell death (PCD) has a connection with numerous infectious illnesses and holds a significant function in newborn sepsis, potentially serving as a marker for diagnosing the condition.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAmbient PM pollution is recognized as a leading environmental risk factor, causing significant mortality and morbidity in China. However, the specific contributions of individual PM constituents remain unclear, primarily due to the lack of a comprehensive ground monitoring network for constituents. This issue is particularly critical for carbonaceous species such as organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC), which are known for their significant health impacts, and understanding the OC/EC ratio is crucial for identifying pollution sources.

In its eighth iteration, this 2023 report draws on the expertise of 114 scientists and health practitioners from 52 research institutions and UN agencies worldwide to provide its most comprehensive assessment yet. In 2022, the Countdown warned that people’s health is at the mercy of fossil fuels and stressed the transformative opportunity of jointly tackling the concurrent climate change, energy, cost-of-living, and health crises for human health and wellbeing.

As wildland fires become more frequent and intense, fire smoke has significantly worsened the ambient air quality, posing greater health risks. To better understand the impact of wildfire smoke on air quality, we developed a modeling system to estimate daily PM concentrations attributed to both fire smoke and nonsmoke sources across the contiguous U.S.

However, the transcriptional regulatory mechanism of the human ADRB2 gene remains unclear. This study aimed to clarify whether E2F transcription factor 1 (E2F1) was involved in the transcriptional regulation of the human ADRB2 gene.

Methods: Ninety patients with T2DM were recruited from a community and randomly divided into the control group (CG) and intervention group (IG). CG maintained conventional treatment and lifestyle, and IG accepted additional "maccog" traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) tea (mulberry leaf, radix astragali, corn stigma, cortex lycii, radix ophiopogonis, and gynostemma) for 12 weeks.
Ambient fine particulate matter (PM) pollution is a major environmental and public health challenge in China. In the recent decade, the PM level has decreased mainly driven by reductions in particulate sulfate as a result of large-scale desulfurization efforts in coal-fired power plants and industrial facilities. Emerging evidence also points to the differential toxicity of particulate sulfate affecting human health.

Countries and health systems continue to contend with the health, social, and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, while Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and a persistent fossil fuel overdependence has pushed the world into global energy and cost-of-living crises. As these crises unfold, climate change escalates unabated.

Therefore, we included modeling data with multiple time windows to identify optimized modeling time windows for capturing the long-term variation of PM in China during 2005-2019. In general, we incorporated PM measurements, aerosol optical depth (AOD), meteorological parameters, land use data, and other predictors to train random forest models.

Specifically, we characterized the mechanical profiles of papillary muscle fibers from transgenic mice expressing human ventricular RLC wild-type (Tg-WT) or E22K mutation (Tg-E22K). Because the two mouse models expressed different amounts of transgene, the B6SJL mouse line (NTg) was used as an additional control.

Selenium (Se) is an essential nutrient element for human health, and middle-aged and elderly people (age ≥ 45 years old) are at higher risk of nutrient deficiency including Se due to their physiological characteristics. This study investigated the hair Se content of middle-aged and elderly people in China with the purpose of providing a reference for prescription of hair Se normal range in this population. In this study, the hair Se content of 2155 middle-aged and elderly people was detected with atomic fluorescence photometry.

Selenium (Se) is an essential micronutrient required by the human body and exerts biological functions through selenoproteins. The relationship between Se and diabetes remains ambiguous. This study aimed at, through measurements of serum selenoprotein P (SelP), glutathione peroxidase (GPx3), and Se content in serum and hair, evaluating Se levels in community dwellers with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (NBCA) tissue adhesive in cesarean delivery by comparing it with the safety and efficacy of subcuticular suture closure.
Methods And Findings: A retrospective chart review was undertaken of all patients who underwent cesarean delivery via Pfannenstiel skin incision.
Objective: To evaluate the predictive factors associated with the success of medical abortion by misoprostol monotherapy within 24 hours in the first trimester of pregnancy.
Methods: The records of 228 women with miscarriage up to 11 weeks of gestational age who underwent medical abortion by intravaginal misoprostol monotherapy were reviewed. Success of abortion was defined as complete expulsion of the conceptus without the need for surgical intervention.
