Silver carp is a critically significant species in freshwater aquaculture in China, characterized by its limited tolerance to hypoxia. In this study, a significant SNP locus at Chr8: 29647765 (T/C) associated with hypoxia tolerance traits was identified in Changfeng silver carp, and the homozygotic CC genotype exhibited higher hypoxic tolerance than the homozygotic TT and heterozygotic TC genotypes. Under hypoxic conditions, the hemoglobin concentration increased, with the CC genotype demonstrating a significantly higher level compared with the TT genotype; the activities of antioxidant enzymes including catalase and superoxide dismutase were significantly higher in the CC genotype than in the other genotypes; the area of the gill lamellae was significantly smaller in the CC genotype than in the TT and TC genotypes; and the number of apoptotic cells in the brain was significantly lower in the CC genotype than in the TT and TC genotypes.

It is widely distributed in the freshwater ecosystem of China, with moderate economic value and broad development prospects. However, the lack of genomic resources has limited our understanding on the genetic basis, phylogenetic status and adaptive evolution strategies of this fish.

The investigation of 's involvement in the formation of intermuscular bones in fish has garnered significant attention in recent years. The rib cage is an important skeletal structure that plays a protective function for internal organs in fish.

The toxic effect on mammals of 2,4-DNT has been well studied, but its toxicity on aquatic organisms is little known. In this study, 126 healthy female zebrafish (Danio rerio) were exposed to different concentrations of 2,4-DNT (0, 2, 4, 8, 12 and 16 mg/L) to determine 96-h semi-lethal concentrations (LC).

However, simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers developed on genome level for genetic diversity analysis are limited. In this study, the distribution characteristics of SSRs in the assembled genome were analyzed, and new markers were developed to preliminarily evaluate the genetic diversity of the four breeding populations.

In this study, hepatic biochemical activity indices in serum and the content of major neurotransmitters in the brain were altered markedly after acute hypoxia and reoxygenation exposure in silver carp (). Proteomics analysis of the liver showed that a number of immune-related and cytoskeletal organization-related proteins were downregulated, the ferroptosis pathway was activated, and several antioxidant molecules and detoxifying enzymes were upregulated.

Prolyl hydroxylase domain (PHD) proteins are critical regulators of adaptive responses to hypoxia for their function of regulating the hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha subunit (HIF-1α) stability via hydroxylation reaction. In the present study, three PHD genes were cloned from by rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE).

The brain of fish plays an important role in regulating growth and adapting to environmental changes. However, few studies have been performed to address the changes in gene expression profiles in fish brains under hypoxic stress. In the present study, silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) were kept under hypoxic experimental conditions by using the method of natural oxygen consumption, which resulted in a significant decrease in malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) content and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in the brain.

Hypoxia is one of the serious stresses in fish culture, which can lead to physical and morphological changes, and cause injury and even death to fish. Silver carp ( is an important economic fish and widely distributed in China. MicroRNA is a kind of endogenous non-coding single-stranded small RNA, which is involved in cell development, and immune response and gene expression regulation.

A sufficient oxygen concentration is essential for fish growth, reproduction, and metabolism. Silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) is sometimes challenged by hypoxia during intensive aquaculture or because of environmental changes. However, the response to hypoxic stress in the heart of silver carp remains relatively unknown.

Cell death following extended mitotic arrest is mediated by the intrinsic apoptosis pathway. Accordingly, factors that influence the robustness of mitotic arrest or disrupt the apoptotic machinery confer drug resistance.

This study determined the toxic effects of 2,4-DNT exposure on zebrafish at the embryo-larvae stage, in terms of organ morphogenesis and the expression pattern of selected target genes related to lipid metabolism and oxygen transportation. The results showed that the 120-h post-fertilization LC of 2,4-DNT was 9.

The Chinese soft-shelled turtle, , is an economically important aquatic species that shows significant male sexual dimorphism, with a large body size, faster growth, a thick and wide calipash, and lower body fat. In this study, ten male and ten female turtles were subjected to restriction site-associated DNA sequencing (RAD-seq) using the Hi-Seq 4000 sequencing platform to isolate female-specific DNA fragments.
