A Novel-Potential Wave-Bump Yarn of Plain Weave Fabric for Fog Harvesting.

With the variety of fibers and fabrics, the studies of the surface structure of the textile yarns, the weave fabric, and their surface wettability are still potential factors to improve and optimize the fog harvesting efficiency. In this work, inspired by the fog harvesting behavior of the desert beetle dorsal surface, a wavy-bumpy structure of post-weave yarn (obtained from woven fabric) was reported to improve large droplet growth (converge) efficiency. In which, this study used tetrabutyl titanate (Ti(OCH)) to waterproof, increase hydrophobicity, and stabilize the surface of yarns and fabric (inspired by the feather structure and lotus leaf surface).

Mycology laboratory diagnostic capacity for invasive fungal diseases in public hospitals in Vietnam.

Improving electrochemical performance of hybrid electrode materials by a composite of nanocellulose, reduced oxide graphene and polyaniline.

Novel ternary composites of polyaniline (PANI), reduced graphene oxide (RGO), and cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) are prepared by a chemical method for hybrid supercapacitors. CNFs were extracted from sugarcane bagasse waste in sugar production, by physicochemical processes. The composites were investigated as electrode-active materials for hybrid supercapacitors.

Mechanical Properties of Ternary Composite from Waste Leather Fibers and Waste Polyamide Fibers with Acrylonitrile-Butadiene Rubber.

This study aimed to improve the mechanical properties of a composite material consisting of waste leather fibers (LF) and nitrile rubber (NBR) by partially replacing LF with waste polyamide fibers (PA). A ternary recycled composite NBR/LF/PA was produced by a simple mixing method and vulcanized by compression molding. The mechanical properties and dynamic mechanical properties of the composite were investigated in detail.

Cassava Witches' Broom Disease in Southeast Asia: A Review of Its Distribution and Associated Symptoms.

Cassava witches' broom disease (CWBD) is one of the main diseases of cassava in Southeast Asia (SEA). Affected cassava plants show reduced internodal length and proliferation of leaves (phyllody) in the middle and top part of the plant, which results in reduced root yields of 50% or more. It is thought to be caused by phytoplasma; however, despite its widespread distribution in SEA still little is known about CWBD pathology.

The anxiety and depression disorder in adults with atopic dermatitis: experience of a dermatology hospital.

The objectives of this study are to identify the proportion of atopic dermatitis adult patients having anxiety and depression disorder and to measure the relationship between anxiety and depression disorder and characteristics of atopic dermatitis. A cross-sectional study with convenience sampling was conducted. Diagnostic criteria for atopic dermatitis were based on modified Hanifin and Raijka criteria and the severity of anxiety-depression disorder was evaluated using the hospital anxiety and depression scale.

Direct Quantitative Analysis of Fluorine in Solid Samples by Cryogenic Laser Ablation and Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry.

The determination of fluorine, the lightest element in halogens, suffers from high ionization potential and spectral interference from water molecules in mass spectrometry. Herein, we introduced a liquid nitrogen cooling unit into the laser ablation and ionization source for the first time to construct a cryogenic laser ablation and ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (Cryo-LAI-TOFMS) system. With this system, the interference of water-related species at / 19 was effectively eliminated, and fluorine atomization and ionization efficiency could reach 6.

NCCN Guidelines® Insights: Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors, Version 2.2022.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are the most common type of soft tissue sarcoma that occur throughout the gastrointestinal tract. Most of these tumors are caused by oncogenic activating mutations in the KIT or PDGFRA genes. The NCCN Guidelines for GIST provide recommendations for the diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, and follow-up of patients with these tumors.

Non-communicable diseases prevention in remote areas of Vietnam: Limited roles of health education and community workers.

Objective: This study aimed to measure the exposure of residents to health education messages about non-communicable diseases (NCD)-related risk factors, and activities of village health workers (VHWs) in NCDs prevention and control in the mountainous setting of Vietnam.

Method: A cross-sectional study was performed in Dap Thanh commune (Ba Che, Quang Ninh province, Vietnam), a mountainous area. There were 151 residents aged 18 years or above recruited for this study.

Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) are rare malignancies of mesenchymal cell origin that display a heterogenous mix of clinical and pathologic characteristics. STS can develop from fat, muscle, nerves, blood vessels, and other connective tissues. DNA polymerase θ mediated end-joining appears to be repressed in interphase, but promotes break repair in mitosis.

This study examined contemporary concentrations of asbestos dust during production and the health conditions of workers at asbestos-cement corrugated sheet production manufacturers in Vietnam. A nationwide survey was conducted on 28 factories (with 206 air samples) and 2459 workers. Asbestos fiber dust and the health status of workers were assessed.

Nanoscale Three-Dimensional Imaging of Drug Distributions in Single Cells via Laser Desorption Post-Ionization Mass Spectrometry.

Exploring the three-dimensional (3D) drug distribution within a single cell at nanoscale resolution with mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) techniques is crucial in cellular biology, yet it remains a great challenge due to limited lateral resolution, detection sensitivities, and reconstruction problems. Herein, a microlensed fiber laser desorption post-ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer (MLF-LDPI-TOFMS) was developed for the 3D imaging of two anticancer drugs within single cells at a 500 × 500 × 500 nm voxel resolution. Nanoscale desorption was obtained with a microlensed fiber (MLF), and a 157 nm post-ionization laser was introduced to enhance the ionization yield.

Diffuse axonal injury: a case report and MRI findings.

Diffuse axonal injury (DAI) is one of the most severe types of primary traumatic brain injury. In recent years, MR imaging has been gaining popularity as an adjunctive imaging method in patients with DAI. In this case report, we describe MRI findings of an 11-year-old male patient diagnosed with DAI and discuss the role of different sequences in the evaluation of DAI.

Differential Development of Umbilical Cord-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells During Long-Term Maintenance in Fetal Bovine Serum-Supplemented Medium and Xeno- and Serum-Free Culture Medium.

Umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (UC-MSCs) are believed to have potential for the treatment of various diseases; thus, many scientists have investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying the function of UC-MSCs and, for example, the appropriate media for large-scale UC-MSC expansion to prepare cells for real-world application. In this study, we investigated the cellular morphology, proliferation capacity, surface markers, cellular senescence signals, clonogenic potential, trilineage differentiation capacity, and secreted factors of human primary UC-MSCs in long-term culture from passage 2 (P2) to passage 10 (P10) with either conventional fetal bovine serum (FBS)-supplemented medium or commercial xeno- and serum-free medium (StemMACS™). We found that the cells cultured in both media had similar morphology and marker expression.

Clinically relevant preservation conditions for mesenchymal stem/stromal cells derived from perinatal and adult tissue sources.

The interplay between mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) and preservation conditions is critical to maintain the viability and functionality of these cells before administration. We observed that Ringer lactate (RL) maintained high viability of bone marrow-derived MSCs for up to 72 h at room temperature (18°C-22°C), whereas adipose-derived and umbilical cord-derived MSCs showed the highest viability for 72 h at a cold temperature (4°C-8°C). These cells maintained their adherence ability with an improved recovery rate and metabolic profiles (glycolysis and mitochondrial respiration) similar to those of freshly harvested cells.

Covid-19: Corporate diversification and post-crash returns.

This paper examines the impact of corporate diversification on stock returns during and after the market crash caused by Covid-19. Using regression and survival analyses, we find that diversified firms experience worse returns and slower improvement in stock prices than focused firms. However, diversified firms trading at diversification premium have better returns and faster recovery compared to those trading at discount.

POLθ-mediated end joining is restricted by RAD52 and BRCA2 until the onset of mitosis.

BRCA2-mutant cells are defective in homologous recombination, making them vulnerable to the inactivation of other pathways for the repair of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs). This concept can be clinically exploited but is currently limited due to insufficient knowledge about how DSBs are repaired in the absence of BRCA2. We show that DNA polymerase θ (POLθ)-mediated end joining (TMEJ) repairs DSBs arising during the S phase in BRCA2-deficient cells only after the onset of the ensuing mitosis.
