Effective real-time cell tracking and tumor growth monitoring are important for precise diagnosis and therapy of tumors and can also be used to monitor biological processes. In this study, a facile, green microwave method was developed to synthesize biomass-derived red emission carbon dots (RCDs) using the ethanolic extract of holly leaves. Owing to the advantages of the prepared RCDs, such as near infrared emission, stability, strong fluorescence intensity, excellent biocompatibility, penetration of thick tissues, avoiding background fluorescence interference, and improvement of the signal-to-noise ratio of biological imaging, they were applied to cell imaging, real-time cell tracking and tumor growth monitoring.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: The plant Bauhinia brachycarpa Benth (BBB) has been traditionally used for treating muscle aches such as bone pain, and neuralgia for a long time, on account of its sedative and antinociceptive activities in Yunnan province of China. However, there was no experimental evidence to confirm its traditional medicinal use.

Aim Of The Study: The antinociceptive effect and possible mechanism of ethanolic extract of BBB on neuropathic pain was evaluated through a model of partial sciatic nerve ligation in mice.

In this study, four in situ hydro(solvo)thermal metal-ligand reactions, including oxidation (HL), C-C coupling (HL), nitration (HL), and condensation (HL), based on bis[3-(pyridin-2-yl)-1-1,2,4-triazol-5-yl]methane (HL), in the presence of Dy ions, were carried out. The in situ metal-ligand reaction gave six new ligands existing in eight novel Dy coordination complexes, which were characterized by crystal structure, mass spectrometry, and magnetism.

Three novel single crystals of the metal-based complexes Cu-1, Cu-2, and Co-1 were obtained and characterized. Compared with Cu-2 and Co-1, Cu-1 showed remarkable activities of anti-cervical cancer, anti-cisplatin-resistant non-small cell lung cancer and anti-angiogenesis by downregulating the expressions of important proteins in the VEGF/VEGFR2 signaling pathway to inhibit angiogenesis and cancer cell proliferation, induce apoptosis, and suppress migration and metastasis. Moreover, Cu-1 dramatically inhibited the expression of the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 and up-regulated the expressions of the proapoptotic proteins caspase-9 and Bax to induce the apoptosis of tumor cells, simultaneously decreasing the density of endothelial cells to inhibit tumor angiogenesis in cisplatin-resistant tumors.

We present the synthesis, structural characterization, and magnetic properties of two high-nuclearity cobalt clusters formulated as [Co(μ-OH)(μ-Cl)(dpbt)(ptd)Cl][Co(HO)Cl]·(CH)CHOH (1) and [Co(μ-OH)(μ-Cl)(dpbt)(ptd)Cl]·2CHCHOH (2), respectively (Hdpbt = 5,5'-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-3,3'-bis(1,2,4-triazole) and Hptd = 3-(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazine-5,6-diol). Compound 1 is composed of an inner [Co(μ-OH)(μ-Cl)] cubane and an outer [Co(dpbt)(ptd)Cl] defective adamantane. Compound 2 reveals a giant {Co} cluster possessing a dual-[Co] skeleton from 1.

Naringin (NA) is one of typical flavanone glycosides widely distributed in nature and possesses several biological activities including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptotic. The aim of this study was to develop solid dispersion (SD) and to improve the dissolution rate and oral bioavailability of NA. NA-SD was prepared by the traditional preparation methods using PEG6000, F68, or PVP K30 as carrier at different drug to carrier ratios.

To investigate the effect of artesunate nanoliposomes on cultured cells in vitro and hepatocellular carcinoma xenografts in BALB/c-nu mice. Fluorescence polarization was applied for measurement of mitochondrial membrane fluidities; inhibition test of tumor cell proliferation in vitro was performed and nude mice xenograft model from human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was established. Cytotoxicity of these compounds was evaluated by MTT assay on hepatocellular carcinoma xenografts in nude mice.

4-Amino-3,5-dichloro-benzene-sulfonamide.

Acta Crystallogr Sect E Struct Rep Online

October 2010

In the title compound, C(6)H(6)Cl(2)N(2)O(2)S, the O atoms of the sulfonamide group lie on one side of the benzene ring and the amino group lies on the opposite side. An inter-molecular N-H⋯Cl inter-action occurs. In the crystal, adjacent mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional structure with supporting π-π stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.
