Maintaining good surface water quality is essential for protecting ecosystems and human health. Henan Province has long faced challenges related to water scarcity and severe water pollution. To support effective management of water pollution in Henan Province and provide insights for regional water pollution management, we collected extensive water quality monitoring data and applied spatial autocorrelation along with random forest to analyze the sources of heavily polluted areas.

Research Question: What is the normal range and the upper limit of normal (ULN) decline in lung function in adults without prior tobacco use, occupational dust exposure, or a known diagnosis or symptoms of cardiopulmonary disease?
Study Design And Methods: A retrospective analysis of healthy individuals who have never smoked (N = 1,305) from the Framingham Heart Study with repeated lung function meeting standards for acceptability and reproducibility was conducted. Longitudinal change was derived using a linear mixed effects model and estimated to a 6-year interval.
Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified numerous body mass index (BMI) loci. However, most underlying mechanisms from risk locus to BMI remain unknown. Leveraging omics data through integrative analyses could provide more comprehensive views of biological pathways on BMI.

Body mass index (BMI) is associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) mortality, but the underlying mechanisms are unclear. The effect of genetic variants aggregated into a polygenic score may elucidate the causal mechanisms and predict risk. To examine the associations of genetically predicted BMI with all-cause and cause-specific mortality in COPD.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: This study aims to identify BMI-associated genes by integrating aggregated summary information from different omics data.
Methods: We conducted a meta-analysis to leverage information from a genome-wide association study (n = 339 224), a transcriptome-wide association study (n = 5619), and an epigenome-wide association study (n = 3743). We prioritized the significant genes with a machine learning-based method, netWAS, which borrows information from adipose tissue-specific interaction networks.

In addition to rare genetic variants and the locus, common genetic variants contribute to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) risk. The predictive power of common variants outside the locus for IPF and interstitial lung abnormalities (ILAs) is unknown. We tested the predictive value of IPF polygenic risk scores (PRSs) with and without the region on IPF, ILA, and ILA progression.

Inflammation contributes to lung function decline and the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Omega-3 fatty acids have antiinflammatory properties and may benefit lung health. To investigate associations of omega-3 fatty acids with lung function decline and incident airway obstruction in a diverse sample of adults from general-population cohorts.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIntroduction: Observational studies have shown that body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) are both inversely associated with lung function, as assessed by forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1). However, observational data are susceptible to confounding and reverse causation.
Methods: We selected genetic instruments based on their relevant large-scale genome-wide association studies.
Background: Adiposity amplifies the genetic risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Aim: We evaluated the association between overweight-years, a cumulative exposure based on the product of the duration and severity of excess body weight (body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25 kg/m ), and genetic risk on liver fat and fibrosis.
Methods: This is a longitudinal analysis derived from a prospective cohort of adults in the Framingham Heart Study who underwent genotyping and vibration-controlled-transient-elastography with controlled attenuation parameter.
Rationale: Inflammation contributes to lung function decline and the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties and may benefit lung health.
Objectives: Investigate associations of omega-3 fatty acids with lung function decline and incident airway obstruction in adults of diverse races/ethnicities from general population cohorts.
Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) suffer from carrier imbalance under high temperatures. We improved their thermal stability by using space interlayers adjacent to the charge transport layers. The current efficiency of the optimized OLEDs increased under high temperature, with an increase of over one order of magnitude of the electron mobility.

It is unclear whether multimorbidity accounts for the mortality association or how strongly ILA is associated with mortality relative to other common age-associated diseases. We determined the association of ILA with all-cause mortality adjusted for multimorbidity, compared mortality associated with ILA and prevalent cardiovascular disease (CVD), diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cancer and also determined the association between ILA and these diseases.

Identifying genetic variants associated with BDR may lead to a better understanding of its complex pathophysiology.
Methods: We performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of BDR in six adult cohorts with participants of European ancestry (EA) and African ancestry (AA) including community cohorts and cohorts ascertained on the basis of obstructive pulmonary disease.

Integrative analysis of multi-omics data has drawn much attention from the scientific community due to the technological advancements which have generated various omics data. Leveraging these multi-omics data potentially provides a more comprehensive view of the disease mechanism or biological processes. Integrative multi-omics clustering is an unsupervised integrative method specifically used to find coherent groups of samples or features by utilizing information across multi-omics data.

Methods: In 6647 non-Hispanic White (NHW) and 2464 African American (AA) participants from COPDGene, and 6812 participants from the Framingham Heart Study (FHS), we tested the relationship of the PRS and age of COPD diagnosis.
